When the Mafrio series had all of he returning brawl veterans confirmed, the next newcomer announced was Rosalina, a Mario character.
Samurai chose to get put all Mario characters, then announce its newcomer.
Now with both Zelda and Toon Link being confirmed, I think Ganondorf is close to being confirmed too (unless he gets cut that it) and then we can finally see the Zelda newcomer (TINGLE FTW!!!)

Zelda seems to be more like her TP Concept Art rather than her TP Model.

Because for him to get it, we'd have to not get Ganondorf, OR we'd end up with 6 Zelda characters.
Idk, I think other newcomers out-prioritize him. I say we got 9 slots left for newcomers.

I've found something similar:
When Sakurai announces characters in an already-existing series, he finishes off the series soon after.
While some characters were introduced early (Olimar, Sonic & Marth) it's because they're the head of their respective series, and are often popular.
Now, look at the reveal order:

The only series to receive more than 1 veteran reveal so far would be Mario and Zelda. Now, Mario has been completed. But before it was completed, another character to Zelda was added. This means that there can be a wait between reveals for certain series, but it will end before another series is completed.
So, before we see a Zelda newcomer, we'll see Ganondorf. And, likely, we'll have several prerequisites:
Bandanna Dee: Meta Knight & King Dedede
Chrom: Marth & Ike
King K. Rool: Diddy Kong
Ridley: ZSS
Mewtwo: Pokemon Trainer, Jigglypuff, Lucario
And so on.

It MIGHT be, but it's not certain, the lack of light and sparkles, and the fact that the hands poses are different prove otherwise.
It could also be the the start-up pose for Nayru's Love/Farore's Wind.

I'm still not entirely sure.... the pose is not entirely identical, I still think its a Jo Jo reference since namco is helping making the game. But again its gonna be super fun watching people go back and forth on this.

It isn't for no reason. There is no Skyward Sword Ganondorf OR Skyward Sword Sheik. They kept the Twilight Princess design so they don't have to cut two veterans for brand new characters, and also so they don't have to come up with entirely new designs for Sheik or Ganondorf.
Anyway, I am seeing the Phantom as either a Neutral or Side Special if not an assist trophy.

To Sakurai, I think actual characters don't matter when balancing out series.
I think that it is SLOTS that matter, because in Brawl, both the Zelda AND Pokémon series had more actual characters than the Mario series.

Because going from Ocarina of Time to Twilight Princess, they could keep the characters they had, not do extra unnecessary work to create entirely new designs from scratch, and use a more recent design. It's... not that complicated.Then why go from OOT to TP? the OOT was just fine.

And to say that they have no influence isn't entirely true. There are plenty of things that can go into removal of a character. And if it came down to a choice between making a new design for a character that they don't have the time to make in their development schedule and cutting the character, then they would do what they have to. And as random people who have nothing to do with their last 22 months of development, there's not exactly a way for us to know if they have run into any walls of "make something new from scratch or leave it / or cut it".

The JoJo jokes are fun to make, but there's no way it's an actual reference. Nintendo doesn't like referencing things they have almost nothing to do with. They prefer stroking their own ***** instead. ¦D

That concept art of Ganondorf looks more like a mid-transformation between his human form and his Ganon form. I am also pleasantly surprised by who we have thus far.
So who do you think will be announced next?

It depends on if we have a big January Direct next month like last year.
If so, it depends on what games the Direct focuses on.
If Hyrule Warriors, Ganondorf (hopefully awesome Wolverine Ganondorf)
If Yarn Yoshi, Yoshi
If last minute Tropical Freeze info, Diddy (whether he be on a Dixie team or not)
If MarioKart, I have no idea, maybe Wario
Though it could focus on multiple games of these and reveal more than one veteran.
But chances are they will announce at least one new game, as they announced Yarn Yoshi, WWHD, and X all at that Direct. So I really do not know.
Also, there can be the next big Smash Bros trailer, with newcomers and veterans.
