This makes me think. I've seen a lot of hate towards Lucas since people think other franchises may need to be trimmed, but if Mario can have 5 characters, with none of them being another Mario, why do any existing franchises need to be trimmed back?

I think you're reading what he said out of context. I assume when he says "Add" he means as in.... Newcomers, not veterans...

You do realize how many franchises he'd be excluding if only 20 characters got in, or how many important Nintendo figures would be left out.

There's never been a specific number hinted at other than fifty. And that was only a number Sakurai said he could do, not one he necessarily would do.

We're going to be getting a fair bit more than 25.

The way I see it, we already have 4 newcomers, and there's still quite some time til the game comes out.

While I don't think we'll get as many newcomers as we got from Brawl, I still believe that Sakurai, the man who likes to keep surprises and isn't making another SSE because cutscene sharing makes him sad, would not show his entire hand this early, especially with a potential for another E3 before the game comes out.

I think a lot of people here just are expecting something small so when something big happens, they get surprised, like Rosalina. I myself see the roster growing quite a bit from this game, and would be honestly surprised if we don't hit at least 45 characters, margin for cuts included.

No. It´s because Nintendo has to shoehorn her into whatever Mario media they can. Don´t get me wrong, i like this character, but i think she just wasn´t deserving of this spot yet. And if the statement that says this Smash Bros will only have 20 characters, then there is only 1 character left for the game.

And it´s absurd that they added her into the game before other characters like Wario, Ganon or Yoshi. And only 4 of the new characters are newcomers.

And no, I don't think there will be less playable characters. That's not a good way to save a dying console, by having less than the previous version. Not to mention the wii u is more powerful. (Dunno bout the 3ds)

Wouldn't the game then just be Brawl but replacing some characters? If Brawl had 35, and this game were to have 35... What's the difference? Lots of cuts for new characters and maybe a more competitive game, but with Toon Link showing his face, it's already apparent the cuts wouldn't be in the places most people would want them. We'd probably lose actually important characters and have a very low amount of newcomers.

Well just because they're in a showable state doesn't quite mean they're fully polished. I suspect Sakurai could "show" any character on the roster now if he was so inclined, he probably could've since around E3, but I doubt much of the roster is at a "fully polished" state yet.

But yeah, the team is more than capable enough to handle a roster reasonable for the fourth game in the series. This is Namco making a fighting game with Nintendo money after all.

Personally, i think the game would be best with 30-35-maybe even 40 characters. Trying to pull off one of those fan rosters with 70-100 characters with Master Chief and Gordon Freeman is idiotic.

At this point now i am pretty dissapointed with Smash 4. It feels like the game is a prettier Brawl ( not that i have anything agaisn´t Brawl. I grew up playing it after all) and i ain´t really seeing anything new. But then, again, the game is still on development. And we have a long time before it comes out.

And i rewatched the trailer for Rosie. I still don´t like her being shoehorned into everything, but i admit she makes for a very interesting character. The smash series is a bit overdue for a character like her.
