In all honesty I still wouldn't be surprised if there's nothing Smash related in the direct and the update was just Sakurai promoting the direct for Nintendo's sake.
...But I also wouldn't be at all surprised if we got a trailer so you kids keep on hyping I guess.

I can't stop feeling the hype. Judging from that comment Sakurai left, I'm expecting a number of things:

a new character reveal/several character reveals
a veteran reveal/several veteran reveals
a 3rd party reveal which may be Snake or a entirely new 3rd party
one or more stages
one or more assist trophies
a gameplay video
a release date

I am learning towards two newcomers or two new veterans, a gameplay video, and a release date. In fact, I have a very strong feeling that we are getting a release date.

It is late in the United States (I assume that is where the majority of members reside). So naturally it is going to be somewhat quiet. However, I would also assume that the Nintendo Direct of December would get people talking.
