We're obviously getting new info, but let's not let this picture go unappreciated. Of every joke picture he's posted, this one is by far the funniest. I tend to be a kinda humorless guy (shocker, I know), but I was laughing out loud for at least half a minute when that picture came up. Toad is just about the greatest smash character who isn't a character, only barely surpassed by the glory of G&W's turtle.

I think you are forgetting that Christmas is a week from today friend (refer to Jesus avatar). This isn't just any Direct. This is the moment we have been waiting for since the reveal of the game (probably).

The fact that Sakurai mentioned the direct in the Pic of the Day and tweeted about it twice, which he did for the Direct Sonic was revealed in. They might also generally be excited for the fact that there's a Direct that's meant to focus on 3DS and Wii U for the first half of the year.

However, in the United States (about 50% of the player base, more than double that of Japan's) Christmas is THE MOST IMPORTANT HOLIDAY, as most denizens of America are Christian (it is the dominant religion over here). This day is obviously significant to the video game industry. There is a reason most companies release their games right before or during the holiday season, friend. That reason is because on Christmas, parents will buy there children almost anything (within reason). That is why the Next Gen consoles released as well.

Again, Sakurai understands the significance of Christmas to the West and how it effects the industry. Not to mention it marks the 6 month anniversary of revealing the game.

Thing is that something is happening. Sakurai mentioned it not only on his Twitter, but in the Miiverse picture too. The only other time he mentioned a Nintendo Direct was on his Twitter 5 minutes before the Sonic Direct. That's why everyone is going nuts.

I'm just leaning back and taking it calm myself. We're getting something, sure, but if any kind of newcomer or w/e it's probably going to be Mii or something, so eh.

If Sakurai doesn't even understand the fundamentals of the industry, he has no business being a part of it. I was also trying to point out that Christmas in Japan is irrelevant. The majority player base is in America, that doesn't mean he needs to cater to us. It does mean that he had better realize that Christmas actually means something here. However, he doesn't usually mention any Nintendo Directs if they do not directly pertain to Smash. So that is an overt clue that this direct will have something about the game. That is the hint, he literally hinted at something (not necessarily a reveal) by insinuating that Toad didn't want to miss it or something to that effect.

In any event, do I actually think Toad will be revealed? Of course not. Would I love it? Absolutely. The point is that if there isn't a reveal tomorrow (a week from Christmas, 6 month anniversary since reveal, and the longest time in between reveals) I will be heading back to the Nordic lands of Skyrim for the remainder of the year.
