Sure let's ignore all the games where he was actually different as well as his own games.

So, ignore a mere fraction of the total games he's been in?
I mean really, Luigi for the most part is just "Player 2 Mario". In some games, he's deviated a bit to jump higher and have less traction, and in rare cases, fall slower, though he's no different from Mario otherwise in those games.
In non-platformers, Luigi is the near exact same as Mario or slightly deviated (such as using electricity instead of fire in the first M&L).

The only thing that is not deviated from Mario's abilities is the Poltergust. But that's not much.

I'm not saying it's not true but they aren't making Toad's Mansion anytime soon. He's only in the games he's in to fill a slot or guide the player. Same reason to an extent we won't see Waluigi they're just filler.

Sometimes I wonder why people even bring up Waluigi. Especially in the same vein as Toad. I don't particularly want to SEE Toad, but he actually is more important than Mr. Sports Spinoffs. If Waluigi had gone with Wario into WarioWare I'd probably change my tune, but. Waluigi could not exist and it would basically not impact the main series OR the RPG series in any way that I am aware of.

Since Toad's chances have dropped considerably, I'd say Bowser Jr. is the next most logical choice for a Mario newcomer. He does have potential, and in term of relevance he is pretty much the secondary antagonist of the Mario franchise now.

And no. He would certainly not be a very close clone of Bowser. Perhaps he'd share some shell attacks and fire breath with Bowser at most, but it makes no sense for Jr. to use most of the physical attacks Bowser's uses, espescially moves such as the new dropkick Bowser has, as well as Flying Slam, perhaps Bowser Bomb, etc. I say this mostly because of Jr.'s small size and build, and Jr. himself has only ever used a physical attack in New Super Mario Bros. (not counting spin-offs, where pretty much every character gets a basic, physical attack)

I don't see why Paper Mario isn't seen in the same light as Jr. He has the potential to become a unique character separate from Mario entirely. Give him G&W mechanics and create a moveset around his hammer and partners. Paper Mario should be considered as more likely than Waluigi, Toad, and Rosalina. I'm honestly shocked that he's never brought up when people discuss Mario characters... do you really want Waluigi over Paper Mario? I find it hard to have any sentimental connection with Waluigi. With Paper Mario, I have traversed various lands and experienced many awesome stories in his games. He is at the pinnacle of the Mario RPG subfranchise, and I think he deserves a spot as much much as Junior and much more so than Rosalina, Toad, or Waaaaaaa.

I would really rather not see Paper Mario. As much as I love the RPG series, I am generally less than happy with seeing a single character on the roster multiple times in different versions. And Ganondorf has convinced me that "potential" only matters when it comes to picking characters, and doesn't actually guarantee they will have unique moves to match said potential. At the very least, Bowser Jr. and Rosalina are individual characters.

ALso yes. People want Waluigi more than Toad, Rosalina, Paper Mario, and Bowser Jr. combined. I thought those kinds of people only existed on Gamefaqs, but I should have known better.

The thing with Paper Mario is that it's hard to really debate whether he's a likely choice or not. Many of his games are well received, but it all went downhill since Super Paper Mario and when Sakurai had missed the opportunity to add him in the first place. Not to mention we have idiots who would assume that he would be a clone or P. Mario and wouldn't bring much stuff to the table. In the end, I've lost all hope for the papery rendition of the red plumber since Brawl and that lost have grown due to how terribad Sticker Star was.

To get back on topic, what type of design would you expect the Beam Sword to have as well as it's Light Saber slashing sound effects?

If you look at Shortie's poll, Paper Mario consistently ranks higher than Toad, Rosalina, and Waluigi. He only falls behind Junior. So clearly people do want him.

But Toon Link is inside of an entire stage and they still added him... Adding a character into the game even though he's in a move doesn't seem that far-fetched.

Are they really idiots, or are they just being reasonably pessimistic? Sakurai has shown himself fully capable of ignoring unique potential if two characters are similar enough. Had Wolf not been so different from Fox, I would believe it to be a guarantee that characters like Paper Mario would somehow manage to be a cloned character.

They could easily change Peach's B, even if only in aesthetics, if they wanted to make Toad playable. One such idea I had off the top of my head is for her to hold her parasol in front of her and shoot out hearts as a counter.
I agree with Rosalina, but she is gaining some popularity and importance, as evidenced by her playable status in SM3DW.
Bowser Jr. could be interesting, I suppose, even if I hate the kid.

On topic, I wish they would bring the pink Beam Sword back, or have it in multiple colors. I didn't like the blue one as much.
