Pic of the day. Here's a comparison of characters with and without their outlines on the 3DS version. They also give off a different impression in 3D, so customize the look however you like.
Wow, that was fast.

I personally prefer it with the outlines, the models look pretty naked without them.

I LOVE the 3d. i use in in just about every game. I don't really use it in pokemon as much because the switches from 2d enviornments to 3d battles are pretty jarring if you aren't holding it right (and its easy to not hold right when the 3d isn't always on)

also sometimes kid icarus is just too intense for 3d, apart from that it always adds to the games

I think I prefer the outlines. Link is kind of hard to make out in that picture.

I personally think it's just an extra, which is why I'm planning to get a 2DS instead.
...

I think I feel sick. I'm going to bed. Goodnight everybody.

It's also pretty hard to notice 3D when there's no 3D.

3D in Smash Bros. is like playing with a wooden plank up your ass. Who's going to even try that.

I've picked up a 2DS purely for Smash, and my purchase was justified by the shoulder buttons alone. One of the most comfortable doorstops I've ever held.

Yeah, those outlines look better to me. I can see them being pretty helpful when playing on more hectic stages too.

I prefer the outlines as well, I can see why they were done as it does seem that they would blend into the stages otherwise.

The best multipurpose system ever created.

Do you... Do you see it? That "2P" above Link's head? Isn't this the first time that multiplayer has been confirmed for the 3DS version? It was bound to happen, but this confirmation gets a Captain Falcon-style Yeeeeeeeeeeeees!

Or I'm just an idiot and local multiplayer was confirmed already, and we're just waiting on Wi-Fi details.

I just started to think SSB4 is pretty far in development and so as far as it looks like it's almost finished, or am I wrong?

About the pic, this is the third photostrip, next to Little Mac's and Villager's.

Can't wait for more! X3

Please edit instead of Double Posting. ^^ Or you'll get into trouble.

And yes, the games are pretty far into development. So I hope the'll show a 3DS Trailer (in 3D) on the sShop soon.
And I love these 'double pics'.

Speaking of the 3DS version, we haven't seen much of that version, but does that mean the Wii U version will be first?

I hope so....
From what I've Heard, the Wii-U version will release some time Before the 3DS one. But that's pretty much a given anyways. :)
The Wii-U needs it first.

Glad I didn't stay up late for boring outlines. The previous night was epic though.

Yeah, this was a pretty great Update.

I mean, we got our first comparison for Outlines (and the first look at a 3DS character without an outline). We got confirmination that there WILL be 3D. ^^ And, this helps the Palutena leak.

So, yeah, great Week so far. XD I just hope it will have a Veteran.

Meh, not as interesting as the raging **** yesterday, but it's alright.

I'm more interested in the new font for the P1 and P2 labels. Have we already seen those before?

Sakurai finally shows how the game looks without the outlines... Doesn't look bad at all, but it can be harder to spot the characters in a small screen indeed. Still, having the option to turn them on and off is always a wise choice on Sakurai's part.

As for the player labels, they will probably be labeled "P1" and "P2" instead of "1P" and "2P" in the Western releases as happened in the previous games.

The fact Sakurai confirmed the game will be in 3D should ease the minds of those who feared that the game wouldn't have this feature, or at least, have a limited use of it.

Not a bad update at all.

Such a useful update, not like we already knew this from the beggining or anything...

And I don't think I'll be playing Smash with 3D on, although Kid Icarus Uprising and Professor Layton are absolutely stunning with the 3D on.

The outlines do a great job of concealing any jagged edges on characters and making them look nicer, but removing the outlines make the characters fit in with the background better.

Anyways, I'm also glad Sakurai is going to use 3D for this game.

Even given the size of the picture, it's upsetting that the characters look far more jagged/low quality without the outlines hiding their borders. If/when I get the 3DS version, I'm fairly sure I'll be using the borders. Jagged edges would annoy the heck out of me.

I personally like the outlines better, but as I'm reading here, it goes both ways. I'm glad that Sakurai has created something that will appeal to two audiences.

We have to give it to him, If he loves anything, It's giving the players more and more control in the game.

I came in here expecting a ton of people to be complaining but I'm surprised that people are taking this update so well. It's kind of cool that we now know the difference between the two visual modes for the 3DS and that 3D has been confirmed too. Of course, it's still a little disappointing with yesterday's god tier update but, as I've kept saying all this month, at least it's new.

Yeah, I would agree with you on that one. I didn't think that many people would be all that happy with this kind of update. But it's still better than some of the other stuff we've seen in March. I hope this stream of new info keeps coming though. But I'm sure most of us feel that way.

I unusually prefer the outlines though...huh.
I wouldn't call it that strange. I know that I prefer the outlines too. And I've seen some other people say the same thing.

The outlines serve a actual purposes on the 3DS screen so I do see more people using them then not. Especially those of us still using the original 3DS and not the XL where the characters will appear even smaller then they already are.
