I've been playing swordfighter pretty hard for the past week or two and I noticed that people like to use the shuriken with the disc. My question is, isn't that redundant? I mean yeah they are different but it's like Sonic's Side B vs Down B different. Another one is the Ike side B vs the Falcon Sword Down B but those are really only similar on the ground.

Edit: Sorry I just realized there is a Q+A thread on this board. I'm used to Pac-man's which doesn't. But I'll keep the question here anyway.

Nah you are fine posting it here, splebel.
In my opinion, it is redundant. Even with the patch, they provide the similar functionality and uses. But I can sort see why someone might use this combination.

One is faster in Startup and Endlag, has brief movement of i-frame (the Ninja Parry), does the most damage farther it goes. Strongest uncharged projectile at max range I think (10%)?
The other is a 3-Directional projectile that does consistent damage regardless of target's position. Has a Tilt and Smash version of the move which gives the player some interesting trick for optimal uses.

So with 23XX the player can use SoL when the opponent is at max range to deal 10 damage or Ninja Parry a Charge Shot. Then use Chakram for everything else (Up close/mid range, reading a jump, or edgeguarding).

Yeah, I think Sword Launcher with Power Thrust is redundant too but San. uses X2X3. He somehow uses both for recovery, punishing rolls, tech chase, and Ledge kills. Haha try to figure out which move I'm referring to. I still need to get my butt kick to see this combination in action. But San. is scary man, especially his Gunner. AEM knows what I am talking about.

It was mostly terrifying because it was the first time I've ever fought anyone play as Swordfighter / Gunner so proficiently. He definitely made good use of both moves, was really difficult to deal with the constant pressure.

h-he said i was the best gunner he's fought so far

Yeah that's what I figured although Slash launcher and power thrust are different enough that I would use both on the same set if needed. I don't know what a "ninja parry" is though. Is that just throwing out a shuriken and clanking with a move?

I can only speak about myself but SoL + Chakram started for me as a way to test if Fast Chakram is better than SoL. Chakram is overall better than SoL but it does have lower dps than max range SoL. TBH I would rather have Gale Strike + Chakram as SoL is redundant compared to Chakram even though Gale Strike is technically inferior

I like to run Blurring Blade if running Chakram that way I keep the horizontal recovery. Plus even though I dislike Marth and prefer Projectiles I still like Blurring Blade for some reason.

Since it is a shuriken and ninjas use shurikens, we called it the Ninja Parry. So if you see a projectile, like a charge shot, coming your way and you forgot to take Reversal Slash, you can Counter with Ninja Parry. Of course, it is like 1-2 frames and it smarter, easier, safer to jump, power shield, or spot dodge. However, is it cooler? I will let you be the judge!

Seems too flashy/complicated to be worth it to me. Although it is nice.

Not much.
My gorl is going to be in another game and she's playable too~

The wait for a Nikki Mii Fighter costume is real.

Well, I've just left the hospital about a couple days ago and I'm currently working getting back into Smash for a tournament tomorrow.

Going to be prepping Butter Knife and a couple other characters. Haven't been to one in such a long time.

Another game? Which one?

Super happy to hear you've made a good recovery! Hope your leave is a permanent one.

Smash Tourneys??? Consider me jealous, I have been dying to go to another tourney for awhile but lack sufficient travel / funds / time / etc. I wish you the best of luck Trieste.

And yeah, it's kind of a spoiler but...

Haha, thanks!

It was hard going through all that but I made it. Going to try to avoid getting that sick ever again.

Yeah, the tourney is relatively close to my home. Haven't been to it in ages because I moved away for college. Aiming for top 3 just like last time.

WHAT?!

I didn't know about that. I love her sprite. That game just keeps getting better and better.

I don't think the Miis are exclusive to a pack in Japan. Maybe you should import.

I just finished Codename Steam yesterday and i thought about how cool it would be for the Miis (more specifically Gunner) to actually be playable there

Tbh I thought Code Name Steam was cool, especially the amiibo support, but I just couldn't finish it. I normally like strategy games but it felt incredibly slow paced.

Indeed he does most people hated Yuri Lowenthal performance as Marth but from what I heard he sounds like Smash Marth but in English.
Not just the enemy turns, the game in general.
Really, I always felt the game was at a nice pace, though some maps are bs with just how slow you have to take them.
Granted a huge gameplay mechanic is to conserve steam to do overwatch attacks on the enemy's turn, which means less space to move with. My biggest gripe with the game is how little you actually know about anything every chapter they unleash some new enemy or a variation of a new enemy often with a new party member you are forced to take with you its really frustrating
eh to each their own.
