Hey, leave him alone. He's just noting things. I mean he mentioned homosexuality, then he made sure you knew he thought it was wrong, then not one to leave you hanging, he let you know WHY. Simple? Good...

Anyways, I know what you mean Proverbs. While my friends do play video games (some of them for hours) I can bring up the competitive aspect with only a few of them. Most of them will just say "Wow, you actually care about that?" I don't bother with that. So, yeah... G4 was the first attempt to make video games into something, but you all know how THAT turned out.

Eh... I don't have a problem like this with any of my closer friends, boyfriend included. He just gets annoyed when I talk to him about the game for 30+ minutes <_<. As for others, I usually don't bring it up in casual conversation; there isn't really any need to.

Oh yeah, my parents let me use their huge basement to host tournaments so they don't really care either XD. I don't even live with them anymore, haha.

If only they could keep the depth in while they made it an easier time beginning in the first place. ^
:bee: The depth will come in time, in my opinion. You can't just dump a meat-hungry tiger into a primary school and expect it to control itself, you gotta ease it into the habitat. It's like a restart for gaming to the audience, in reality.

Case in point...people are ignorant. Although...you would use a bit more tact in dealing with them, the fact still remains...just because you put time into a video game doesn't mean anything. It's how you spend your "Me" time. Both of my parents play video games in their own spare time. A good chunk of my friends do as well. Oh, and my Ex-girlfriend did, too. When it's your own parents...just nod and smile. Then go about your business. As long as you're doing what you need to...who cares what you do in your free time so long as it's not illegal?
People aren't so much ignorant as they are uninformed, but many make the error of casting judgement on something they know nothing about. Then again, given how difficult it is to understand 'hardcore' videogaming without significant time investment, I can't really blame them.

I usually don't let stuff like this bother me. If somebody asks me about my interests, Melee will most definitely be brought up. If they make a comment about it being a waste of time, I simply explain to them that it is a hobby of mine, and I go into detail about why it is a hobby and how the game is competitive. Then I just ask them to respect that about me as they would anything else.

The same thing applies to relationships. If a girl cannot respect my interests, then I don't really want to date her. It's quite possible to manage time between a game and a girlfriend. "If you don't respect me, how can you love me?"

Yeah, but even if people "come to accept it," they always initially find a problem with it/think it's weird. Most of my friends, after a while, get used to it. They'll still call it a waste of time every now and then, but they get used to it. But the thing is, 99% of people think it's stupid when they first hear about it, and I'm not sure if they ever lose those first impressions.

And I'm not really one to talk, honestly. When my friend Ben told me about playing the game professionally or whatever I said "That's probably the stupidest thing I've heard of in my entire life." XD Look where I am now!! I guess it's just because playing video games professionally isn't very well-known. Most people aren't even aware that MLG exists. I personally think professional gaming should get a ton bigger in society. I mean, they show Madden tournaments on ESPN, but I feel like the only reason it's there is because it's a game about a sport. But I think that people could get used to seeing Melee televised once professional gaming became more popular.

Hahah, let me know how it goes. I tend not to enjoy playing Melee with friends when they don't know I'm good. They'll be like "Hey, it's Melee! Wanna play?" And I'll just say "...sure..." I mean, I love playing and teaching people how to get better and everything, but sometimes if people don't know what they're in for, it can be a little frustrating. And I can totally relate to what they're feeling even now. Just try playing KDJ and you'll see basically the same thing you do to your casual-playing friends, except at a much higher level.

Absolutely no more religious talk or debate here. period.

Anyone that does will get a major spam warning. No trolling or flaming about what others said. Don't test me.

Your girlfriend looks nice.

And besides, most people here seem to think that a girlfriend isn't loyal. It's your problem if you choose one that isn't.

This is a gaming forum, not a relationship forum!

I don't think I've ever had somebody tell me "Playing ______ is a waste of time." Usually people are interested if Melee gets brought up, not repulsed (Brawl is a different story, zing!). It's weird to talk to people about being good at the game since we're talking about completely different levels.

If anybody told me Melee was a waste of time I'd just ask them what isn't a waste of time. I'm sure they'd have a great answer since they have life all figured out. Granted, anyone who tells you that probably isn't worth your time to begin with. Waste of time my ***, I'm having fun.

this is exactly it.

they would think i am the best player in the world if we busted it out and played, but compared to the elite of the scene is a different story.

This applies to many things, just that competitive sports are more well known and therefore more widely accepted. I think this point was established a while ago already

If I have fun doing something, I don`t care what people say.
They say you play videogames too much, but yes,
it is probably alot better for you than T.V.
and I just find more fun in it.
But, we are usually still rejected :(

4.) Some prefer to work...a LOT. That's also fine...just add stress and shorten your life. Make sure your kids don't know you, and you have minimal relationship with your wife.
I have a funny but sad story.
one of my best friends, We'll call him Bob, got a job at a local sonic that just opened last summer. I also got a job there, but was laid off in december. he still has his job though, you know why?

OK, so first off, Bob works after school 4/5 weekdays and almost every weekend. Then, he adds all the managers on xbox live and the very little time he gets on, he spends playing ****ty games like shadowrun just so he can play with the managers. I've tried joining his live party once, and he told me get out.

Second, This year Bob only has 3 classes and since he works almost every day, he usually skips lunch with our friends to go work some more.

THIRDLY he used to be a WoW fanatic, but now, all he does is pay for his subscription so he can sell his account and do the whole "Help Blizzard, someone hacked me!" to get it back. hes done this several times with my knowledge.

So he is corrupted by money, and never spends any time with us.

And on the whole melee rejects thing, A few of my friends when we're talking about games will go "Hey you know what a really good game is? Melee!" taunting me. however most of my friends understand, and one even wants to learn to play super amazingly after he helped me run my tourney a few weeks ago.

Bob sounds like a ****, but Shadowrun is a great game. It's really competitive, it was even in MLG for a while.

Don't hate unless you do some research.

Edit: I mean on the circuit, not just some little side project.

OK, but i still didn't like it, and no one else I know plays it, so hes using it to intentionally escape relationships that don't include his mouth and his managers *****.

Nah Shadowrun sucks. Not worth 60 bucks.

Yeah I've got two friends with whom I always play Brawl. After a while I get bored and tell them, "Hey guys, make my day by playing some Melee with me." I always get no's. So when they're using a really nerfed character like Cpt. Falcon I always throw in remarks about how much **** he was in Melee.

Also, I recently got my Melee buddy back. He was sad cause I beat him horribly and now wants his revenge.
