Melee vs 64?

Which is your favorite Smash game?

Personally, I like them evenly. I'm better at 64, but I find Melee just as fun to play. I love the really fast paced battles and seeing the neat things that people can pull off. 64 has ridiculous combo potential and the flow of the game seems more natural.

Notice how I didn't include Brawl in this poll... ;)

I like 64 better because I all the characters are more balanced, and because you don't need that high amount of finger skill that Melee requires. Plus I love comboing...

Super Japanese Cousins MeRee.

Yup, even though it has Engrish (Ness had a case of paranoia in 64), I like it.
It's awesome.
I mean, the amount of 0-death combos is hilarious.

And what do you mean you don't like the amount of finger skill?
That's what makes it fun!
I can't believe you don't like it.
It's amazing!
0-death combos are even harder to pull off (Well, not really) thus making it a lot more fun for your opponent in case you screw it up.
Also, WAVEDASH/LAND For The Win.
I mean, watching your favorite character slide around by simply crouching is great for the endless laughter and joyfulness and whathefreakinhecklawlz.

And Fox.
Fox's techs are simply awesome.
You look like a freakin pro, and you don't even have to be able to do them right!
Fox and Marth are so FUN to combo with.
How could you pass up Sakurai's legendary mistake?

Wha? I'd assume if 0-death was "easier" your opponent would love it more when you screwed up. Even then it's a dumb reason.

I like 64 more. Melee from what I see is more competitive overall, I just like 64 more. And I hate Brawl.

Well, my bad if I like 0-deaths and random combos that end with a KO.

I guess I take your statement as a fact, forgetting that smashboards is full of opinions.
Again, my bad.

But even so, you have slightly more aerial control in Melee.
That in and of itself makes it more fun.

I like all three games equally. I personnally like melee better due to wavedashing and all but I still play the 64 version just for fun

Silver, the moon high over pond of water calm and dark
Woe, mist, the breath of the dragon, sweeping down mountain side
All still, the day asleep, the sun rests in nest of the Gods
Afar high adventures await me, I hear my brothers calling

Spring is here and the ice breaks free
The endless sky and open sea
I will sail where the Raven will lead me
Fly on black wings, high and free
I shall return with the wind the day
From high adventures, swelling sail
Autumn red comes to Asa bay

Meet me by the well where the water, crystal clear, flows free
From deep within the great mountain towering to the sky
I will be awaiting you coming down treading the trails of elves
Bare feet, let your hair down like the mist across the pond

In dawn of time, before gods and man
When earth and shy was first divided
A star did fall into river deep
A star of gold into silvery water
While I sail, by this you shall remember me
Wear it, yours forever to deep
To bind us beyond end of time, to thee I give a ring of gold

i like melee simply because its faster, which actually improves my smash64 game :D
I sometimes watch Melee matches for this reason alone, despite having barely ever played the game. It makes me faster and more unrelenting in 64! Plus smash of all types is entertaining, pure and simple.

From what I can see, though, IF I had a gamecube, it would be 64 > Melee > Brawl for me, no question. I currently have access to Brawl and while I enjoy it, it hardly gets any playtime compared to 64, even for the guys who own a copy of Brawl (and I beat them in Brawl anyway :chuckle: I need to buy a wii)

What I meant was that it sounded like it'd be more fun once you get of a 0-death if it's harder to do the 0-death. Most people would be happier if they got out of a deadlier one. Trying to get out is another thing.

Also, from what I see of Melee match vids, it's not really all 0-death based. Been a while though.

Agreed on overwhelming support of 64 in a 64 board, and Melee is $30 around here too. Used, I dunno, I think it is.
http://www.gamestop.com/browse/search.aspx?N=0&Ntk=TitleKeyword&Ntx=mode+matchallpartial&Ntt=Melee
$30 used at least on Gamestop.

Oh, and American dollar =/= Canadian Dollar, but it shouldn't have inflated THAT much.

your an idiot dont ask this question on a smash 64 forum because nearly everybody will say ssb64.
I agree with this post.

And since Samus and Yoshi is in both so it's hard to choose.... hmm, Melee I guess.

Well well... a buddy of mine got a used Melee in preparation for Brawl's release way back. He played it a few times and apparently really dislikes it. I'll probably end up buying it off him!

I'd say I like melee and 64 equally because:

1- I just started playing competitive melee again and I like to see all those techs and the speed of the game is awesome
2-I'm good at 64 and the combos, imo are cooler then melee.
3-Those 2 games have awesome combos and have Z-L cancel if you know what I mean. =]

I used to play melee but it takes too much spare time to play these days. With 64 I can stay home or play with my brother in law who is pretty good

64 in my opinion was the best. melee is great too

One major problem nowadays with ssb64 is the lack of hardware especially controllers :(
yes, EB games around here normally has these "used but new condition controllers" which where perfect, only 9$ish for a good controller..now they are out D:

any ideas...¿?

i seen a site that sold the stick itself...has anyone bought this before? looking to get some feedback before i think about buying something stupid...

I think I remember on the Nintendo Official Online store, they were still selling it. And on Amazon you can get some for $25.

Joysticks, dunno.
