And I'm not the one obsessing over the notion of my precious X>Down>L button presses possible being eliminated, because I've wasted 3+ years of my life getting into the habit of pressing that sequence over and over and over again to exploit a glitch to get better at a party game?
 I love how your arguments have degraded into attempting to insult my lifestyle and make me "feel bad" for using advanced techniques. Anyway, if you must, I've only played competitively since fall of 2005, so not even two years...

If they leave it in, they cater to both the oblivious majority AND the competitive minority. Win/win situation.
No. That's an immature and selfish way to look at it. It doesn't.

It's forcing people who can't do it to learn how to do it if they want to play.

@Dogenzaka: If one player could do it then why couldn't the other?
Not everyone's the same?

I would also like to know your definition of a glitch. Also let's say there are 2 games: Melee1 and Melee2. Now Melee1 is exactly like Melee2 except in Melee one you can wavedash and l-cancel. Now you the so-called 98% of people don't know about it then what is the difference between Melee1 and Melee2?
My definition of a glitch is an abuse or malfunction of a mechanic set into place.

There is no difference between the two, since Melee doesn't have online play, if I couldn't wavedash or l-cancel, I wouldn't be effected, because I'd only play with people I know anyway, who can't do it. Since it doesn't have online play, I avoid the people who do do it.

I'm the one sitting here with free stuff won from tournaments.
If you go to a video game tournament anyway it's enough to laugh at you for in the first place.

Yes. Choosing not to take advantage of cheap altruistic tricks makes you a lower-level player.
It makes you a cheater, and a jerk with the attitude you're taking.

You're very ignorant if you believe that the game would be balanced either with or without advanced tactics. Sheik, Marth, and Fox would still be the best characters in the game regardless of these "glitches" and "exploits"
Then again we are in agreement that your favorite characters would be good no matter what, except this time they get to be good for legitimate reasons, and not their ability to exploit glitches

I love how your arguments have degraded into attempting to insult my lifestyle and make me "feel bad" for using advanced techniques. Anyway, if you must, I've only played competitively since fall of 2005, so not even two years...
I love how you did the exact same thing, saying that my way of playing the game is lesser than yours because it's not 'leet pro' and I'm not traveling the country in order to play it competitively to win meager prizes

Except, in your instance you're bragging about taking a video game seriously, and in my instance I'm benefiting my future, building a career, and improving my social life

Well, we have given up trying to reason with you because you simply do not listen to reason. Look back over my posts, and you will see how blatantly out of control you are.

Whatever... I'm a cheater, guys! I'm a cheater that is let into tournaments! IMAGINE THAT!

You lack the understanding of what "reason" is.
Me not choosing to take advantage of "cheap altruistic tricks" makes me "low-level" in your book. Technically, people who take advantage of "cheap altruistic tricks" makes one a cheater. You lose all credibility that you never had in the first place. You may win tournaments, but you're probably not any fun to play with.

It'll simply prevent the use of cheap techniques in battle.
You think he sucks so bad? Why don't you try playing against him?

Except that I'm not crying to have them removed (Though, they have been removed, so this entire debate is hypothetical if it wasn't already decided that they would not return) and that we're merely discussing how it would affect the majority audience?

I will never understand you people. I have never played a video game wondering all along the way what the creator wanted to happen. Play to win. We are equally tired of you and your kind. Yes, we cheat. Yes, we exploit glitches. Yes, we play dirty. Yes, we refuse to limit our mindset in the name of playing with "honor".

And yes, those who do use advanced techniques and those who don't are galaxies apart. Deny it all you want. I guarantee I could **** any of you who don't use them. Why? Because in such a scenario, it becomes physically impossible for you to keep up. You choose to limit yourselves.
It was stated best here.

Adv Techs make your character more athletic. It doesn't matter if they were intented, THEY EXIST. Adapt and learn to use them, or lose to the evolved. It doesn't matterhow skilled your mind games are if you simply can't physically keep up

Awww... you hurt my feelings with that one. Don't worry. Everyone down in Utah is excited I'm coming down because we all love playing with each other. We all cheat. Isn't it great?

The word abuse is too vague because by that definition shinespiking is a glitch and Up-throw>Up air is a glitch. Also, if Brawl1 had all the advanced techs and Brawl2 had none, but don't know about/use then techniques, then what's the difference? Also, please elaborate on the "Everyone's not the same comment". I don't follow.

You guys really need to get over the fact that advanced tactics don't take 8 hours a day to learn. If you guys think it's "nerdy" to play in a game competition then that's your opinion. I think its nerdier for you guys to think that you should play video games with "morals" and "honor". For most tournament goers, the money is only an incentive to try as hard as you can.

Also, if everyone's not the same, playing a game with someone who isn't the same as you is cheap right?

HOLY CRAP! TWO BRAWL GAMES!? I must play them both! For great justice!

EDIT: Ah, money...the root of all evil. And Adv. Techs.

If you all cheat then technically you're not cheating anyone. You're all on the same level. That was my logic for having them out in the first place. To even the playing field out a bit more.

It's if and when you get online with Smash Bros. Brawl and discourage people from wanting to touch it again by using those "cheats", considering if they weren't already taken out.

It's funny that we're nerdy for going to tournaments-- yet they're arguing with people on an internet videogame forum about how they're not losers.

HYPOCRITES!

Well if you look down on these people who goto smash brothers tournaments, you obviously wouldn't goto a tournament yourself. Why, then, are you complaining about 'glitches' that you won't even encounter?

Mindgames.... I predict a response... OH RIGHT! Online play! But let's just go back to what you said earlier. We're the minority, right? They're appealing to the majority by taking these skills out supposedly, right? If we're such a minority, then you wouldn't be playing as many people who can can wavedash or L-canceling as you're saying you would!

It makes you a cheater, and a jerk with the attitude you're taking.
I would be cheating if I played you with an altered controller. They're banned in tournaments. However, there are no rules stating that wavedashing and L canceling is not allowed. "They weren't intended" is not a valid excuse.

I'll play with you, but ONLY IF YOU DONT CHEAT. I HATE WHEN PEOPLE PLAY CHEAP!!! AND YOU CANT PLAY COMPETITIVELY BECAUSE THAT WOULD MAKE YOU A NERD AND I DONT LIKE NERDS!!

Also, the NBA, NFL, MBL, FIFA, etc etc etc are all being cheap and elitist by making a league and creating rules that weren't intended by the creators of the sport, amiright amiright amiright?

It's cause you cheat! You cheater! I bet you cheat at life too. Mr. Invincability! Mr. NO LAG! MR. INF AMMO!

Okay, I'll stop being so literal with people's posts now. It's just too much fun and it's humorous in an otherwise unhumorous pseudo-flame war.

Right. Because I think it should be out for the good of the majority, I'm "scrubby" (which is a terribly stupid, immature, and useless insult by the way) and "can't take a loss". Way to judge someone you don't know.

It's funny that we're nerdy for going to tournaments--
Who said that?

yet they're arguing with people on an internet videogame forum about how they're not losers.
Let's see.

We have my side, which is the anti-glitch support group
and the other side, which is the pro-glitch support group.

I simply posted reasons supporting why it should be out.

Someone on the opposite side immediately began an argument.

So who started an argument with who? It's rather contradictory when the truth of the statement is -- you guys started it.

Why, then, are you complaining about 'glitches' that you won't even encounter?
In Melee perhaps not. In Brawl however? You forget it has an online multiplayer mode.

It's fun watching you guys get so riled up about your precious Advanced Techs, how you can argue so vehemently about them, even when they're confirmed to be gone. You can't get over not being able to Wavedash, that you have to act like this to anyone who *gasp* thinks that it's good that Smash bros is getting a fresh start competitively wise? God forbid the game isn't exactly like what we've been playing for the past 6 years!

Also, this thread just proves that the Competitive side of Smash Bros is unaccepting of anyone who won't adapt to play exactly like every one of you, if you treat people who have a simple opinion on Wavedashing like this

Just kidding. I take back all I said earlier. Wave dashing is cheap. So is Jumping, Air-dodging, Jumping AND Air-dodging together... oooooooh tricky!

Because they all use it.
It all comes down to the fact that you've gatta do what you've gatta do to win.

There's no such thing as cheap in this game. Fight fire with fire! If you think it's cheap, then you be cheap!

It doesn't make you less of a person if you're fighting cheaply in videogames.

Brawl will introduce new tactics. We just don't know about them yet. No one knew about wavedashing in Melee. It was discovered. We really are not heartbroken that advanced techniques were removed in Brawl. We will simply discover new tricks (EVERY fighting game has them), and you can resume your rants about cheating. Fair enough?

And it IS about fun for us! Competition is fun! If you are looking for a game that is all about REAL skill, how about Mario Party 8?

@Link: If you're not going to contribute then please stop posting and getting in the way. Thank you.

@TC: It seems we want the same goals or something of that nature, but are going about it in totally different directions. Let's CP and AP are Casual and Advanced Gamers respectively. CP is at 50 and AG is at 100. CG wants God to make AG come down to around 50, but AG says instead of bringing me down and making the game less fun and deep for me, why don't you come up and join me. The CG refuses to go up that high because he doesn't want to play that way. Then AG retaliates because CG wants to level the playing field by dragging him down instead of working hard like he has to get up there and CG reasoning for that is because they don't want to. Does that seems fair for AG? (Man, this post is rediculous but don't ignore it.)

SOMEONES QUOTE:::::And see, you get to be out buying plane tickets and sleeping in hotel rooms so that you can spend a 6-hour day in a cramped Rec center with lawn chairs and TV's set up, so that you can take a simple fun party game and strip away what makes it unique so that you can play it 'hardcore' and exploit out it's 'depth'[/QUOTE]

Why would someone who ridicules this be on this forum? If you like the game enough to be here, you obviously just aren't skilled enough to learn the technique. It took me 15 min...but maybe im just that gifted, sorry if your not

Yeah. It's sad when video games are no longer about...fun.
Competition.

A lot (most) people find it fun.

Let me guess. You think spamming smashes with the C stick over and over again, and seeing who the lucky last man standing in the end is ... fun?

Well let's see here, Dogenzaka said in the first post that he'd be glad if Brawl was given a fresh start Adv. Tech wise to even the playing field and make the game fun for those who may not be able to put so much time into the game, but still be able to have fun even when playing someone who does

Cue 5 straight pages of people calling him a ***got, a troll, flamebait, a scrub, a noob, a john, that he should STFU and GTFO, that he should lern2play or not play the game at all

Oh yes, a sweet mature welcoming embrace from the Smash Boards community

For some, playing to win IS fun. Why can't people get this through their head?
If everyone is doing this technique and there's prize money, sure, why wouldn't it be fun?

Re-read my post. I countered your point before you even posted your response.
Point it out.

Kind of the point to the game. Although I don't use the C stick.
