You could make him a 0/something creature with double strike. A lot of his moves combo or have links, they just deal very little damage and it's hard to finish if they're not a FFer.


Roy's counter works on a lot of items and random stuff. I think because of this, the first concept should beat damage from any source. If he was a 2/1 with that change, I'd probably pick him mid-pack just because he'll trade with a bear early on and work like an expensive, crappy Whipcorder in the late game.

Your ideas are cool. I like them more than mine hahaha.

The reason I chose combat damage is because Roy shouldn't be able to retaliate to "projectile" attacks using his counter, but he should deal damage back to creatures who are actually fighting him in combat, so the wording seems like it'd be weird. I can't think of a similar existing creature in magic to base the templating off of.

And yeah the countering version should probably be a 2/1 for the sake of not being a purely defensive creature in red.

As for double strike, I think that really should be saved for the truly fast characters, i.e. Fox.

So I guess I'd go with the counter version rather than some sort of first strike/double striking version that focuses on Roy's paper sword priority as to not burn those keywords.

A Flare Blade version would probably play better as a Red creature, but I can't' think of a simple enough implementation that requires him to "charge" (be tapped) for consecutive turns rather than be able to store the charge (like Samus or somebody could).

I think the deck I played most was probably BW Aggro-Control. At some point I got a kick out of Zoo (WRG aggro) but I didn't like being without Dark Confidant. If you could somehow get Dark Confidant to stick then a lot of matches became easy.
oddly, I have 4 of the sucker and I don't know what to do with it. I don't much care for the deck he's in now though (dark depths + vampire hexmage lolcombo).

edit: stop making custom cards to be mana sinks.

IMO make Roy a legendary 2/2 for R with a built in Umezawa's Jitte. Like, exactly the same. That wouldn't be stupid at all.

maybe silvers aren't the best in the current rule set but u have to realize we were using a program so we could use any and every card ever made with a few limitations. b/c of this all the different silvers were aloud to be used as well as the card that counts as three of any mana (really old card forgot its name, we had a limit of one) With these rules and limitations slivers were amazing

Anyway i was thinking if someone is really going to make a bunch of cards should all the top players be legendarys while people like me should be more basic cards?

@dark confidant discussion

It depends on which format you're playing also. I play Vintage and Dark Confidant is really useful there. I mean, when your deck consists of the 60 most powerful cards of magic, turning an extra card per turn is really game-breaking, even though it costs you life.

Also, suicide black decks play dark confidant because well... it's sometimes suicidal to play him. =D

I love that card, it's always been in at least one of my decks since it has been printed and will probably forever be. I actually pre-ordered 4 of 'em when Ravnica came out.

yeah i have sets of a lot of cool black cards like dark confidant, bitterblossom, thoughtseize, urborg and lots of stuff to support it like diving top, chrome mox, mutavault, jittes, etc. i just don't know what to do with them.

i have the bitterblossoms mutavaults and jittes in fae but i'm okay mixing stuff around.

Make an aggro/disrupt deck with those. You can splash green and add many useful creatures such as eternal witness, troll ascetic, tarmogoyf and other stuff.

Mute City should be a land that deals 2 damage to all creatures that attack every other turn or something. And provides 1. Just because.


Luigi shouldn't have first strike. He sucks at getting first hits.

As much as I like your enthusiasm Marth307, what kind of thought process goes into designing your cards ... I don't think any of your creatures make any sense flavor-wise (other than DK being a big dumb green duder haha)

As far as lands go slapping a picture onto a land that just provides colored mana is super boring. <_<

He's taking preexisting cards and changing the name/artwork. Sometimes he adds or subtracts some mana in its casting cost or makes it a different colour. Sometimes a keyword (like flying or whatever) is changed to something else (first strike or whatever).

I understand Dr. PeePee being overpowered, but G&W? That just doesn't make sense.

Cactuar's Fox is pretty bonkers, the basic lands are amazing, Axe's Pikachu is absurd, Kirbykaze's Kirby has the best art, 3's Roy is so ridiculous it's not even cool, Meta-Knight seems appropriately broken.

Falcon should be good, not terrible.

Going by Marth307's style I would just paste Falcon's picture on Ball Lightning and rename it Blood Falcon and that would be my card

I had a dream about that Metaknight actually, only I was building them out of factories in Starcraft 2. Metaknight rush!!

Weird... I'm pretty sure I saved my Wombo Combo one on my comp luckily, so I'll reupload it when I get a chance.

I think as a side project, I'm going to try to design a 360 card Melee-themed MTG Cube, print em out, sleeve em up as proxies, and play it with people at Genesis.

I'll post my card ideas here later.

I think I'm going to use the characters/Nonplayer enemies(Redead, LikeLike, Octorok, Koopa, Flying Koopa, Goomba, etc) as creatures, Player's creatures as Legendaries, and retired players as Legends.

Do you mean design 360 original cards? Because that's extremely ambitious.
