Melee online?

I was discussing emulating SSBM with dan, and I realized that the Dolphin emulator is much further along than I thought it was.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gthqZmi36p8&NR=1

with a powerful PC you could run SSB:M at nearly full speed constantly.
Since most complete emulators can run games online, perhaps in the near future it would be possible to play Melee online with the Dolphin.

Another idea that I had involved utilizing cheap bluetooth controller receivers and gamecube to USB adapters in conjunction with setting up a feed for the video.
One person would play online using the feed and the other person would play on their consoles.
bluetooth transmitter/receivers are cheap as hell (I got one for $7 shipped) so if the host had a good upload speed, all that would need to be done would be to program something that would transmit the inputs and output them as recognizeable signals for the cheap bluetooth gamecube thingy.
The host would use the bluetooth adapter for their computer to transmit the inputs to their gamecube.
imo.

am i thinking of impossible things here?

edit:
my idea for the second one goes like this
Player 1 hosts the match on his gamecube, which is hooked up to his computer on like ustream or via a webcam service, quality could be set to lower. higher upload speeds would help. Player 1 has a bluetooth receiver in his gamecube (i'm sure there are crappy controllers that have this) with a bluetooth usb/internal thingy in his laptop
player 2 has a gamecube to USB converter, uses the stream as a screen, and his inputs are transmitted via the internet to player 1's computer, which are then sent out via the bluetooth.
It seems plausible.

There's also the old ssbm online thing they were working on, but that involved PSO and a network adapter <_<
also it seems it was discontinued.

clearin' up confusion

my question is how bad will latency be?

Cause perfect speed melee will be fine, but will i get soul cal lag input? XD

I cant defend "it's just muscle memory" for situations like that. >.>

I was thinking the same exact thing with the dolphin... it's extremely possible... and the other thing seems impossible imo

Hmm, it sounds interesting. Obviously, some people would have to fool around with it to see what works and not. I can see the first idea working, with the emu. and all, but obviously Melee wouldn't be very good without the ol' GC controler. My question is (and please excuse me if I missed it above), how would you, if possible, hook up a GC controler to your computer? This is what interests me the most.

As for having to have a good computer to run such a game and avoid any lag, I think it'd be hard to play Melee lagless because:

1. You wouldn't nessicarly know exactly how good you opponent's computer is.
2. It would depend on a wired/wireless connection.
3. Distance? Questionable because I don't know if this is a WiFi only thing.

The idea of hooking the GC to a computer seems nigh impossible. The only way I know to do so is through the PSO hack. And if you're familiar with it(in any way), you know it is SO glitchy(besides, wasn't progress stopped or something?). So the second idea seems impossible without taking the GC apart and hacking the hardware itself.

Edit: OMG Mithx! <3 that quote.

I still don't think there will be good online melee for a while longer.

I made a topic about this a while back. Dolphin is going great, I use it myself because I can use AR codes without the AR... debug mode is great. Anyway, alot of people don't have the power to play melee 100% with Dolphin, and It'll probably take a little while longer... but a really great server needs to be made to support it. I'm pretty sure online support is something dolphin was hoping to add eventually. We'll just have to see.

The bluetooth idea and all sounds really neat. If someone gets something like that to work at a speed where you can't hardly tell you're not sitting right next to them... that'd be awesome! I'd use it.
Oh and there are Gamecube-USB adapters available, though they're probably harder to find nowadays. I might work on a USB GC controller hack if I had enough motivation (I could use it to play SSBM online)

I've thought of this a bit. And if it helped with emulation any, we could just alter a version of melee that has only the multiplayer mode, all chars and stages unlocked. I don't know much about how emulation works though >_>

You could technically play melee on a computer with a wired 360 controller. You would just set the joysticks to the normal stick and c-stick. L and r would be the same, z would be the same. The only difference would be the and b button that would be smaller in size. I think the 360 controller would be a valid substitute if you don't have an adapter of sorts to use a GC controller
