Again because he doesn't realize that Smash raised that 90K. He thinks it was just Melee and Brawlers/64ers/casual Smash fans didn't do anything at all.
Really shouldn't make a difference what community raised the money. It's Nintendo fans doing a monumentally positive thing. That deserves a little more care and restraint on his part.

I was just about to say don't forget about all the speedrunners + speedrunner fans.

People will say stupid things and hate each other until the end of humanity as we know it. Can't quite get rid of it.

That said, I'm glad we've taken such massive strides these past few weeks. Could you imagine #oneunit being a thing back in December? Yeah, me neither.

Most definitely.

As a gaming news outlet, I can understand the desire to stay neutral and maybe not report how much of a Nintendo fan-wide effort this was, but now that it's over there is no excuse. This really should have been their side-comment.

Judging by the response, they're still mostly irked about Smash's competitive ruleset (ie: no items, some stage bans). Seems silly to me to complain when it's clearly a more engaging competitive game without random drops and whatnot, but it's probably not worth pressing the issue.

Someone brought up their trouble with the gems in SFxT as a counterpoint.
Yah it's just a horrible argument, made more so when the person has no idea what they are talking about.

I remember when I first played Street Fighter II and found out the stages were all exactly the same. I was not impressed
That ignorance is so aggravating. Someone should seriously slightly mod their game's stages to favor certain chars and tell them they are forced to deal with it in tournament just to prove a point.

Hi!

Most of you guys don't know me. That's fine. I'm a Skullgirls moderator at SRK, a commentator at Skullgirls tournaments, and I'm considered one of the top joystick modders in the world. I'm a former competitive Smash player (both Melee and Brawl), but I've since moved on to other games. I have to be completely honest: I don't like Melee, and I really don't like the Smash community. I've just grown generally distasteful of both over the course of time. That's not why I'm here, though.

I'm here to say congratulations. You're not going to see a single damn complaint out of me that Melee won the charity drive, because you guys earned it. You put up a hell of a fight! You showed up and supported the CRAP out of your game, raising over $92k alone for charity and to help your game get to EVO. Anyone who complains that you guys raised the most for charity is a douche, plain and simple.

I've been seeing lots of hate for Melee in my feed, and I told them all to just get over it. I'm a Skullgirls player and I'm not mad at all. Why? Because WE as a fighting game community just raised over $233k for Breast Cancer Research. Didn't matter who won, we just kicked the crap out of breast cancer. Everyone who chipped in should feel immensely proud of themselves!

Really, congratulations guys. You all earned this.

@Duckie

Thanks for the congrats man!
I'm sorry the neither game nor the community was to your tastes, but I'm happy you worked through that to treat us with respect. Hope that we could possibly change your opinion on our community at EVO.

Good ish

Mike_Z said that everyone respects each other in the FGC at the end of the day, but no one in the FGC respects melee.

At this point we're pretty used to it. Many of the most vocal ones on SRK end up being the ones who don't even show up to EVO and just stream monster anyway.

So hurry up and join us. I'll teach you some melee bro
I would love to, but unfortunately my true love (SkullGirls) is the one that needs me, also I'm still learning Project M.

But, maybe one day, I'll try the game after many years of not touching it...one day~

The way he was talking at the end of the stream I kinda dont believe this. Where did he say it on stream last night or twitter/srk?

Melee is like a less janky Project M
Well the thing is, it's not that I don't want to play it, but it's because the character roster is too limited in my eyes when it comes to characters I like. With Project M, it plays more like Melee and it has a wider selection of characters I can use that I like (Charizard, Snake, ZSS, etc)

The only characters I would probably somewhat pick up are maybe Samus and Luigi.

I understand the true purpose is from a competitive stand point, but sometimes cosmetics come into play as well lol.

This.
Project Melee isn't really all that solid at the moment. They are making some REALLY weird design decisions and a lot of people don't really like the direction they are going in with some things.
Melee is solid and consistent. Also getting good at melee will make you even better at Project M. I placed 4th at a P:M tournament last weekend and beat out some really prominent players without really knowing the game too well lol. My melee skills just transferred over.

I feel you, but isn't it also pretty common to have these notions about what you think you want to play and then you skip around the characters and one just calls to you? Melee is buttery smooth and you might be surprised who you wind up with. I realllllly recommend at least sitting down with it for an afternoon and feeling it out, even if you stick with Project M.

What "weird" decisions are they making?
I think they're not yet there, but they're walking in the right direction

Directions with characters. Not everyone agrees with everything of course. For example I personally think they ruined Toon Link the way he is now for the most part. Ever since they closed down the Project Melee backroom for whatever reason, its almost like the development has taken a turn for the worst since they no longer have the voices of the "professional prominent players" for each of the old melee characters. So now they just have a couple of guys doing whatever they feel like doing to the characters =\ Kinda depressing too since I had high hopes for the game

Keep the PM discussion in it's own board. This isn't the place for it.
They don't even really talk about P:M there. That thread is more like a huge circle jerk for the same topics, usually casual talk though and things 100% completed unrelated to P:M. Thats why I don't really post on there anymore.

I'm not trying to bash down on skullgirls as a game or imply that any of these people don't deserve respect.

I was watching both streams last night, and I can't help but shake off that Melee has so many more players with years of experience that the motivation in the fundraiser is to support the fellow players, the pro players take the spotlight and so does the game. Smash is a series that is trying to survive despite a great lack of developer support.

Inversely, Skullgirls is based on dev support, the streams and supporters are people who worked on the project, and the prizes are based on how much you like the people associated with the project. Where as Melee's donation stream was focused on the fellow players, Skullgirls was focused on fellow producers who out of respect want to support indie and polished original ideas.

Skullgirls is a new game that doesn't have a giant community that can allow it to support itself, so maybe that's what leads it to this dev centered community where players support it due to its concept rather than their actual experiences with it.

If you compare and contrast the skullgirls and project:M (only) communities you'd probably see some major differences early on
