Mega Man is not in Brawl!

Doesn't anyone remember the endless SEGA reps saying Sonic won't be in Brawl?

...
It was a rep from Sega of europe so he wouldn't know if Sonic was in or not and even then he just said "That's not on our cards at the moment" which didn't mean he wouldn't be in. When the freaking creator of megaman says it it's different.

It's a definite possibility, but they didn't have to. Megaman X6 was made without Inafune's knowledge, so Capcom didn't feel they had to tell him.

No, not at all. Just an example of Inafune's lack of knowledge about a Mega Man game being made. I just said that to illustrate the point that Nintendo could have contacted someone else at Capcom about Mega Man being in Brawl; thus allowing Inafune to say that he had not been contacted.

If Mega Man were to be in the game, I'm sure they'd use the original Mega Man since that version is the most recognizable.

And X6 was crafted during a time when Inafking was actually still quite knee-deep in the Rockman franchise.

It can only be worse now, considering that Inafune is largely ghost with regards to Rockman. He's busy with other things, like Lost Planet and etc.

In other words, I wouldn't at all be surprised if Rockman was in, but probably because Capcom, or some other rep, just decided to go over Inafune, and engage in talks with Sakurai/Nintendo autonomously.

True, but he was working on the Zero series at the time. He had nothing to do with X6. He intended the series to end with X5

Yeah I heard about X6 being created without Inafune's knowing of it's existance.

That was a slap to the face and I'm sure he was pissed about that. x_x

Good god I love this board.

An obscure magazine makes a passing statement about a roster.
Hopes are built up, hopes are crushed.

A frame from a trailer shows a blurry shot with the color red and yellow in it.
Users clamor over the "confirmation" of Captain Falcon.

Sakurai uploads a picture of some characters.
People cry over the confusing starting roster.

Someone says that they haven't been contacted about Megaman.
The forums erupt in civil war between believers and heathens.

I'm wondering what to make of SurferGirl's supposed rumor at this point.

The way I see it if he says he hasn't been contacted yet that can either mean:

a) He really hasn't or
b) he as a means of avoiding the old "no comment" which would pretty much confirm it

The way he says it leaves it open to the possibility that it could happen when for all we know it already has and he is just saying this because no one will know if he is lying especially considering he leaves open the possibility that he could be added (though probably no more characters will be added at this point) so as that when he is confirmed we can't say that he lied.

I am sure Megaman will be in and you all should be too.

Wow this really doesn't look good. Especially since it's new info, a user on here, bluebomber22, confirmed that he sent the question in about MM in Brawl. He says he sent it in about a month ago, after the announcement of the delay and while Sakurai still had "a couple months" to negotiate for MM. I just hope Inafune's been bypassed on the way to getting Megaman in Brawl.

Hi guys, how's it going?
I have little hope at this point, but who remembers when Nintendo flat out said that they had no plans for a remodeled DS and a couple weeks later DS Lite is released?

I don't wanna hang on to false hope, but it wouldn't be unlike Nintendo to flat out lie to the public, or pay Capcom to keep quiet for that matter.

First off, quit calling either side stupid for believing he won't or will be in the fricking game.

I just want to point out a few things though; but first, let me copy and paste what Inafune said:

[1]"Well, I really do love Super Smash Brothers. [2]It’s a great series…but, Nintendo hasn’t asked me yet if they can use Mega Man in their game. [3]I’m still waiting…we have a little bit of time left, it’s not coming out for another few months. [4]They might get around to asking us if we’d like to put Mega Man in Super Smash Brothers. [5]Maybe if somebody from Nintendo is listening to this podcast, they’ll give me a call."

You can tell that this statement is desperately trying to avoid the question. I will break it up for you so you can understand better. I will do it individually by sentence number.

[1] basically is Inafune preaching his admiration of the Smash Bros. franchise. This is key. Onto [2]....

[2] is a very important sentence, because here we can see a bit of hypocrisy. Smash Bros. is a franchise built from the ground up using key mascots in the growth and success of Nintendo's namesake. After all, it is through these mascots that Nintendo is able to keep on sailing. 3rd party characters have made their impact on Nintendo's success as well, even Snake, although he didn't really get booming until he was a sony man. Ok, so if Snake can get in, and Kojima had to beg, and Sonic could get in through popularity....

How is it even possible that Nintendo would not make contact with the creator of the ONE third party mascot that has been somewhat of a Nintendo faithful throughout his entire lifespan? Yes, he is third party, but his overall success has been on Nintendo consoles, as well as roughly 80-85% of his games appearing as a Nintendo title. It is from Nintendo that Megaman got his start, as well as continues his success to this day. So, how is it possible Sakurai would just "forget" to contact Inafune when in sentence [1] we see Inafune's opinion on the franchise as a whole? You don't "forget" someone as popular as Megaman, especially where he has incredulous popularity in Japan as WELL as the US. So knowing this, and Inafune's opinion on the Smash Bros. franchise as a whole...there would be no conflict with Megaman making the cut IF Sakurai asked... onto sentence [3]....

[3] is beating around the bush some more. onto sentence [4]....

[4] is more clever beating around the bush...or....with the way it is worded...could be a hint asking Nintendo if THEY could reveal Megaman and not Nintendo... Hence the "if WE can put Megaman in Super Smash Bros." onto [5]....

[5] is a sort of hint at Nintendo to reveal Megaman. they are waiting for the "call..."

What "call?" The call that Inafune has you believing asking for permission to use Megaman....

OR....

The "call" to come out and confirm Megaman?

All I am saying is this...

From my analysis of the statement he made, there is no definite answer, and there won't be. Why won't there be? Simple; Nintendo does not want Megaman to be revealed yet, so they asked Inafune to not reveal him. Anyone who asks you to hold a secret, and you are loyal to that, you will not reveal it....

You will just simply "lie" to throw them off course.

and that my friends, at least from my conclusion, is EXACTLY what is going on. After all, Sega has lied about Sonic...

Why on Earth would Inafune, the great mind behind one of the biggest mascots next to Sonic and Mario, not be contacted by Sakurai, the great mind behind the one franchise where all key Nintendo mascots over the years do battle?

It's simple.... Inafune has been contacted, and he just simply lied to throw everyone off...

It's marketing strategy to the definition. That is all.

. . .I think some people are reading too much into this in hope that it doesn't mean MM aint getting in.

Really, this is about as direct as it gets. He says he would love to have MM in SSBB BUT nintendo aint contacted them yet on the matter and that he hopes they do contact capcom cause theres still time. (Which may not be the case. This was recorded on MM B day which was like Dec 18th/20th. At this point they would have less than 3 weeks to work on MM seeing as the bug testing is going on right now and the final copy will be being made in Jan.)

Really, I would find this really odd to be a lie. Not only was it recorded on the best day to reveal MM, it was also a very clear and direct statement.

Im not a "hater" or anything, I just don't like seeing such blunt denail. Either he is out right lieing on MM's B day podcast (meaning MM is in brawl but he refuses to reveal him. . . on his B day podcast) or MM has the better part of a month to make it into brawl (or Japan brawl at least).

What does Mega Man's birthday have to do with revealing him in Brawl? If Nintendo doesn't want him revealed, then he isn't going to be revealed. End of story. No Capcom dates are going to have anything to do with it.

I think it's best not to look too far into this statement one way or another. There are valid cases on both sides of the story and the person who's debate makes the most sense doesn't equate to the person who ends up being right. If Mega Man is gonna be in Brawl, he's all ready there. If Mega Man isn't gonna be in, it's too late now. Our banter amongst each other won't change the final outcome.

<Insert wonderful explanation here>
I just have one thing to add: We have no clue when this podcast was made, do we? After all, this was obviously BEFORE the delay as the delay was brought up in November, and he said 'a few months.' For all we know, this could have been made in September.

I just keep useing MM's B day as a date as to when this was recorded cause alot of people look at the "months" comment and say this must be "months old".

And I see no reason why Nintendo wouldn't use MM b day as a flood gate for the hype of MM in brawl but thats besides the point. Point is, that this was a big thing to Inafune to do and this is what he said.

To take it a twist it up is just wrong. Either he lied to everyone and MM is in Brawl already or he is telling the truth and MM has like less than a month to get in. . .well the devs are de bugging. . . and before the final copy is sent out to be mass producted. . .and before the final copy of the guild is made and released.

Dude above me. . .it was recorded Dec 18th/ 20th on MM's B-day. See what I mean Cless?

I don't see a reason why they would specifically use the date. It's hype for Mega Man, not Brawl. If Nintendo, revealed Mega Man in Brawl, I'm sure that everyone that attended the Mega Man birthday bash would buy the game regardless of the day he was revealed. Not much more is going to hype up Brawl more than Sonic did.

I already said he could have had an out by Nintendo going to a different Capcom rep. There's no reason Nintendo had to specifically ask him. Capcom can use Mega Man without Inafune's knowledge and/or permission. He doesn't own the character.

He just may not be telling the whole truth. If you want to black/white it into lying and telling the truth (there should be a verb for telling the truth), then he could be lying.

Goopy, it was posted on Capcom's site. Go look for it in the Mega Man thread. I sure as hell don't feel like it.

Proof please.
"Fun fact: This Podcast was actually recorded on the day of Mega Man 20th anniversary, which makes having Inafune-san, the father of Mega Man, on the Podcast all the more cool!"

Cless, Thats why I said that thats beside the point (the date). And he clearly goes from talking about him alone to talking about Capcom.

Sorry, I assumed that wasn't true because I mistook you saying this:
I just keep useing MM's B day as a date as to when this was recorded cause alot of people look at the "months" comment and say this must be "months old".
As meaning "I'm using Mega Man's anniversary because I don't want to agree with many other people"

But yeah, that kinda sucks then. Now Cut Man's hopes for an AT are slim to none.

I want to hear the Japanese for that us. I dunno, but he could be referencing his team. Plurals are sketchy in Japanese.
