dude getting kdj to play you would be insanely helpful
1) he plays high tiers so we could probably have better/more helpful things to tell you

2) videos of you getting ***** are better than vids of you two stocking people because there are obviously more things that were taken advantage of in your playstyle

3) if you can talk to KDJ about HIS playstyle for even 10 minutes, you'll probably learn something. I watched like 5 mango vids and he always has a new, innovative way to get around situations
they also have similar playstyles ( in my opinion, some may argue otherwise) so yeah you should definetly use your resources especially when they are such potent ones like him

yeah i hear ya dude. sora is a good player, but he actually mains y.link, and secondaries zelda haha. he plays marth and fox a lot for fun though, but doesnt focus on them.

and yeah i'll try to get kdj for you guys next time. he's just busy a lot, but when he's free he loves playing.
to be honest though, in a sense, the way he plays cant really be learned. he goes off of reactions and patterns for the most part. he's just smart as hell. we did mario dittoes a month or two ago and i was beating him for the first half of the match, but after that he started punishing everything. he's really good at switching his style in order to ****.

so it's something that CAN be learned, but not easily. a lot of observation and stuff.

tl;dr
Sora mains low tier, KDJ *****, i'll try to find a time he's free. just gotta ask Nuro whenever i see him again.

I agree KDJ and Mango do play similarly. Honestly...nobody can replicate their spacing. It's just godly precise, on a level that transcends traditional offensive and defensive playstyles.

It's as simple as saying they know exactly when and where things will hit. Except with huge emphasis on the word "exactly". Combine that with some of the best mindgames in existence...you have those two players.

hey if I wanted to see *** kissing I'd go to a porn site
lol jk A2 I agree with you. I usually learn a thing or two from those two players. the odd thing is , I don't learn things from M2K vids, it just seems that he emphasizes what is already known. mango pushes the limits. which is what everything needs, except in this community, it seems like it's only mango doing so. MAYBE Armada when he first appeared on the US smash scene, but now he's become very defensive and stale imo
but then again, who am I to say anything? I'm stranded on low tier island with the rest of you plumber players =P

ALSO Blanky, tell your YL friend to be more aggressive. I think it could benefit his cause =)

I personally think I play a lot like M2K to be honest, of course with M2K being tons better than me. However if I were to describe how I approach the game, my playstyle is very calculated and formulaic. I strongly believe in setting the standard and playing to a consistent optimal playstyle. I generally am a fan of ledgecamping -> waveland -> grab -> ****, which I think M2K does a lot.

This isn't to say that I'm not a fan of reads and mindgames, rather I think I am quite good at making reads when they most count. I think however that I strongly believe in conditioning. I usually do the same thing over and over with the idea of ensuring that my opponent also responds with the same thing.

see I don't like that thing about M2K. he's great with reads and such, but it means he's waiting for them to make a mistake, not necessarily making them make those mistakes. I don't like adapting to the other person, I like making them conform to me. once they do, I change my strategy, because thats my personality. I'll just be who I am and if you don't like it, gtfo
thats what I love about melee. people's playstyles relate to them. you can learn alot about a person by just playing with them.

god i hate living far from my states smash scene
How far?
I'm 4 hours of driving from the scene (aka anybody above decent) and the 'locals' are 1 hour north and 1 hour south of me and around a lake or 2. XD

I usually do the same thing over and over
my opponent also responds with the same thing.
YOU'RE INSANE
YOUR OPPONENTS ARE INSANE TOO

Read my sig quotes, all in the middle of matches with me.
People laugh when they see me play, every time. :)

im not sure if he's connected to virusbluemage. could be though. i know obm and omegawhitemage used to host some big east coast tourneys, but obm's interest in smash is unfortunately dying down, but he still plays with us when he's bored haha.

and please dont switch! we need more mario mains! the more, the better :)
who are you thinking of switching to?

I've been eyeing up sheik or fox. god I feel dirty just saying it. I used to love Marth but his playstyle got alittle boring for me. something about sheik just seems like she's really stand outish from the rest. not just her priority, but something untapped
and fox cuz he's frikin fox
did you main anybody before plumber?

well when i first picked up the game i mained Mario, but that was years ago. i decided to learn and play the game competitively about 11 months ago while bored in college with buddies. i started with falco, then moved to peach, and i dual-mained them for a while.

then i got bored of spamming d-smash, and spamming short-hopped lasers.

so i picked up Mario! :)
i have a lot more fun using him and i like the fact that he isnt extremely popular, because it gives me a feeling that there are still unused strategies and techniques that can improve his metagame, and i can be a part of it all! i might just be dreaming big though haha.

sheik is a cool character though. im pretty lousy with her though haha, and fox is wicked fun! i use him against my friends from time to time to help them learn the match-up.

I don't even main Mario right now, did for a month, that's it.
Now I use him 1/4 of the time and don't really have a 'main'
He's 1/4 of my main with the others.
Mained random for about a year before that, and Luigi for the year before that...
That's as far back as my videogame life goes >_>

ya, dr. mario.
lol

actually I've been unfortunately thinking about switching mains
Just pick up other characters, there's no need to drop one.
I'm picking up a new one every month for the entire year.
Until I'm finally using all 12 that i was randomly using over the last year.
Just easing my way back, character specific stuff is hard when you play a character less than 10% of the time >_>

ANYWAYS
Serious note...

Recorded great music today...
Single-handedly won my hockey yesterday...
Smashing tomorrow...

eighteenspikes? the dude who tries to use dtilt as a viable move? >.>
yeah hard competition there
actually it's probably a good choice not to go doc because...doc dittos are just....omg...I legit stood in one place for 30 seconds just watching this kid spam pills till he realized he could use an approach...

lol
I play Mario vs Doc all the time, the only accessible player is 100% Doc no other character...
The only time I play is when I play him too, unless someone from another city comes into town or we meet up with some other friends.

That's about it...
So I play Falcon usually around here... he likes the match up too.
:D

lol condemned

Mario dittos are gayer. U-tilt beats almost all air approaches for massive low percent reward. F-smash and to a lesser extent Cape and F-tilt walls the hell out of other Marios. Approaching another Mario is hard, but camping him is pointless since he can do it back with his own fireballs and Cape. Just generally a really stupid and tedious matchup.

Mario vs Doc is basically the same matchup...except Doc's Cape and D-smash are slightly more practical, while Mario has the F-smash and more consistent U-tilt juggle.

yeah I also think mario is better against doc because he just has better followups with his moves and since doc is supposedly heavier than mario (which I"m not sure I believe anymore) so he's easier to combo

Unless you play PAL, Mario and Doc have the exact same physics and grab range.

um...
I think is a horrible character for a player to start out with, cause it doesn't help learn what the game really is.
Cool character though.
I agree that he's like...so freakin overrated.

Fox, Sheik, Marth, Peach, all better.

Falco is for noob players only.

:p

Quite seriously, Mario in fact can and has done all.
