wow, this game is really unbalenced. major tier lists with powershot on. unfair stages can make you move at the speed of bowser (phrase coined by me).

Sorry to bump a three year old thread, but I didn't want to start a new one with one currently existing. Does anyone still play this game for GC? It's incredibly fun with 4 players and a few friends and I were considering putting together tiers for it.

I still play the one on GC, but all my friends that use to play this game are in a diffrent stage however. I was hoping the remake for the Wii had Wifi, but they didn't. =/

They remade it for the wii, instead of making a NEW Mario Tennis game?

...That's lame. I wanted a new Mario Sports game for the wii like Tennis and golf. I enjoyed those on the 64

Has anyone played the Wii version yet? I'm curious to see what changes there are.

I have, there's only a few changes:

You can see the power meter
The gameplay is more harder to play competitively with the Wii Mote & Nunchuku controls
When your playing multi player when your facing your foe, you'll have a split screen so that you won't feel confused when swing to hit the ball.
The AI's are a little easier than the GC
It play's similarly like Wii Sports Tennis when swinging the Wii Mote, but you can move with the Nunchaku

To me, it's not worth 30-40 dollars getting the Wii version since the controls are worst when playing competitively, it's not Wifi, and there's little changes. I would spend 10-30 dollars for the GC one instead, though it is cool you get to see the power meter on the Wii version.

Actually, the 'real' GC version has a kind of power meter.

The tennis racquet has a glowing line that rotates around it. The longer the line is, the closer you are for your power meter to reach to the max. Its not hard to see, honestly.

Even tho MPT has been re-released on the Wii, is it still possible to play that version with the GC Controller?
Or maybe the Classic controller?

These games make me miss Camelot studios....:(
True, Camelot made Mario Golf Toadstool Tour and Mario Power Tennis really well, with amazing cut scenes. They should make another Mario Tennis if they are around, (I don't know if they are). This remake wasn't as well as I thought it would be, but at least it plays like Wii Sports Tennis, they should had taken notes from Mario Super Sluggers on controls even thought it's baseball, but at least the controls are better than the GC Mario Super Star Baseball.

sounds like a useless remake. I don't think its worth it. Donkey Konga on the other hand............
It's only useless when you have the GC Mario Power Tennis and some GC controllers to play it. If you don't have anything GC related, then it's not totally useless, and you could hit the ball like a tennis racket.

Also, are you sure you don't mean Donkey Kong Jungle Beat? I haven't heard of Donkey Konga for the new remake... yet.

I liked the 64 game, but the power moves kinda turned me off from this one. Kinda unfair, if you ask me.

You can turn them off, IIRC.

However, thats only for Exhibition mode. A good tactic in Tournament mode is to use them after the computer/opponent has used them. That way youll be pretty safe, most of the time.

How? Name one Power Move that was unfair? I can't find a single one to be unfair because they all can be countered and you don't have to have a power up to even counter them to. So how is it unfair, matter in fact, name the characters that Power Moves that is unfair?

Oh, so true. Super Sluggers was awesome, even with Wii controls. It's a shame that it had stupid reviewers like Game Informer, Game Spot, and Game Trailers from giving that game a good score that it deserves. =/

Only thing I can think of is Wario's, Peach's, Yoshi's, Petty Piranha's, and Paratrooper. But those power move's isn't bad, just the best in the game above the rest.

The problem with Peach's Defensive Power shot is that it's easy to hit a Smash shot because it's always in the air, Daisy Defensive shot if the ball hits is about to hit the ground twice, it fails, kid of like how Mario's would fail if the ball is too far or if it's about to bounce twice. But Daisy's Defensive Power shot goes at a good speed to counter a Offensive Power shot like Paratrooper's, Shy Guy, etc.

I've recently been playing Mario Tennis for 64, and maybe it's my bias in starting with the GC version, but I enjoy Mario Power Tennis more. The controls feel more fluid and you can turn off the power shots if that's your thing, personally have no bias towards one or the other.

Who does everyone use here? I enjoy DK because he has huge range, lots of power, a great serve, and is surprisingly fast for his size. Koopa Troopa is incredibly broken as well due to his speed, but if you play with Lunge on Auto you're going to encounter problems with him. He lunges a little too liberally with it on Auto and his lunge is very laggy leaving him open when he didn't even need to lunge in the first place.

I like Waluigi at the net. I've only played other characters enough to know that Wiggler/Petey P are gay, and Wario's GC dash is absolutely terrible.

Waluigi is alright, I haven't used him enough. Peach is a fantastic character, very balanced and has above average stats in just about everything. The curve she has on her slice is pretty absurd, but I think the most misleading curve goes to Fly Guy... some of the shots he makes just make my jaw drop.

Oh, Petey Piranha. God, he's too beast for his own good. He's pretty weak in the back because of how slow he is, but at the net he's a complete monster. You can't lob shot over him because he can return any shot above him, and literally every shot he returns has KNOCKBACK. You return one of his shots and you get knocked back and stunned for a second == Broken. In the back he's weak, but with a star his speed problem is fixed a lil bit.

I use Wario, Boo, and Mario because their awesome. =D

I'll say the order of how hard a character is to master would be All Around > Speed > Defense > Power > Technique > Tricky. But that's just my mind, lol.

Yea, Mario Strikers Charged is more intense than this game. Well, even Super Mario Strikers is more intense than this game. XD

I liked Boo. The curve he put on the ball was absolutely unfair. Paratroopa also had a great offensive special that put most chars in a bad spot, along with a ridiculous lunge.

Well, we were talking about it a page ago. Also, the Wii version should be out by now.
