Any tips for trying to connect to my friend online?

I beat numerous staff ghosts by about 10 seconds each, but I didn't get an expert ghost..why?!

Are fast staff ghosts the same as expert because I can't unlock the expert no matter how much I beat them by for example the ghost I have in mushroom gorge has 2.01.011 and that should be the expert time right?

@ Bankai: Yeah I think that's the expert for Mushroom Gorge.

@ Urb: You beat the original staff time, and if you beat it by a good time, when it goes to your time result screen, it should say you unlocked an Expert Ghost. You know it's an Expert Ghost because when you go back to the track you just did, there's a new time from a staff member that is usually much better then the time you just beat the original staff time by.

The competition is interesting for sure. I got 1'36"687 in it I think, which is pretty good.

Seriously people, how is this game hard? OK, so there's a lot more to do than in DD for instance, but that's just a good thing. It's in no way hard, some expert ghosts can be tough if you're not used to that kind of stuff but they're not super good either. Online play is where it's at, way too good.

WOW, dude you are really good...the fastest time I could get is like around 1min 55sec. Did you just get lucky and not get hit by blue turtle shells, wow buttons, and lightnings or what?

Well there are lots of things to keep in mind in this. First of all, the beginning is important. You want a good item in the beginning. So don't fly off to 1st place right off the grid. Then yep, you definitely need luck as well; you can't afford to get blue shell'd or lightning bolted. POW blocks are interesting, since they can actually help you. If a computer has a star or a mushroom, and drops it because of the POW, you can get really lucky and pick it up yourself.

If you're a good racer, you can easily get at least 1'45 if you get a clean race with no items hitting you. As for the best times of 1'33 or so... those are pretty sick. You probably need lots of item luck for that, and you also need to be capable of WR class racing yourself.

I got rid of the region format because it doesn't really matter since lag isn't really an issue and we can all face each other in Worldwide.

I played it yesterday for the first time (my sister and dad played it a lot before me). I wasn't actually planning on ever owning this game, but I won it at a local tourney, so I thought 'what the heck, I'll try it out'.

I didn't use the steering wheel (GC controller instead), and it was pretty fun.

I can't wait to try out the Wi-Fi later.

What exact problems are you having?

Are you trying to join your friend when they are in a Worldwide race? When doing so, sometimes you will be unable to join due to the fact that the 12 slots will get filled up by other racers from around the world.

Same with Continental.

Joining a room, you shouldn't have too many problems. Recently I've had online issues aswell, which just seem to be random errors.

I'll add everyone here. I pick various characters of the middleweight and heavyweight crew, but pick the same vehicle everytime.

Watch out though. My win record is at least 75% in first place, with at LEAST 85% in the top three, and nearly 100% in the top six. I have a knack for staying way ahead of everyone on the course.

oh, and does anyone else get really annoyed when youre winning a race, then you get disconnected for some reason, and your rank goes down? i had that happen to me earlier AFTER i had finished the race in first. i was waiting for everyone else to finish, then i got disconnected, and my rank went down. its evil.

I have to say it doesn't bother me. I don't value my point total as much as racing vs good racers and winning from some good efficient racers that know a lot of shortcuts. Beating them feels good when I do and even though items influence it it just gives a kick. I don't jump to conclusions from it but it just makes the race fun. So yeah as long as there's some good competition in the race I'm fine having a point total of 1000 if I have to.

I believe that the items need some fine tuning imo. Too many items that are just too powerful. Feels more like Mario Party than Mario Kart.
