I forgot to mention heavy Mii is also a viable character.

I forget the exact name of the best karts but the tires are usually Slick, Crimson, and the default.

Mach 8 kart, Pipe Frame, and one other kart are used mostly.

ATV's ONLY usefulness in a speedrun is Shebert Land, which is a shame, since I do like ATV's.

Except the Koopaling thing lasted a page, this has been lasting for over a month on and off lol.

ATVs are also useful on the ice sections of Mount Wario, and their bouncyness is really handy on the ski slalom and ski moguls sections. I also do particularly well with them in Piranha Plant Raceway (or whatever it's called, one of the 3DS levels - I often mix up names since some course have different names in different regions, so I'm playing a PAL copy, but often watching videos of NTSC copies).

Now you're just splitting hairs, because many topics have been on and off in this thread (including the Koopaling thing).

BTW, I don't have a problem with discussing favourite Koopalings or anything, I'm just using it as an example - if you're gonna complain about it when people want to talk about Rosalina in some form, you're obligated to complain about the Koopalings, or heck, Luigi being brought up, or any other character. Otherwise, you're being selective and biased.

If you really don't want to have Rosalina pop-up in discussion at all, you're free to make a "NO ROSALINAS ALLOWED >: (" version of this topic or something.

Actually no im not.

But its more I, and a few other people (names withheld to protect the innocent), are getting sick and tired of seeing absolutely nothing but Rosy discussion/pictures. At the VERY LEAST put some collapse tags on those Pics please.

You say it like we're posting pictures of naked old men in the topic, jfc.

There has been a variety of discussions going on simultaneously, some happen to involve Rosalina. If people seriously are that put off by the character, then they can just deal with it, or make an Anti-Rosalina version of the topic. I absolutely do not support censoring perfectly legitimate discussions that are within the rules, and I can say right now that I will not be censoring my posts for people with Rosaphobia.

True, but that's half the course. About the point where catching up is almost impossible. The karts really stay balanced the whole way through.

Pirahna Pipe place is one of my personal favorites. Funnily enough, I can never remember any course name unless it's Rainbow Road or Bowsers Castle, lol. All the tight turns in Pirahna land are very satisfying to cut.

My personal favorite Koopaling is Larry if only purely because he looks like a BAMF in Super Star Sega.

To be fair, we do have the Rosalina sub-forum at the Smash 4 forums, so we can just go there to talk about her.
Yeah but that's more for Smash Bros related talk, or for the character at large.

I don't see what's wrong with someone posting the odd comment in relation to a character. It's not hurting anybody. Someone wants to post a pic of Rosalina? Cool, let 'em. Someone wants to post Luigi Death Stare videos? Sure, knock yourself out. Want to discuss the best combos for the various Koopalings? Excellent. Wanna talk about how you like how Peach looks on a bike? Sure, so long as you keep it fairly clean.

And no, this has nothing to do with me liking Rosalina, it's just I really feel this is a non-issue by principle. I don't see why the community at large has to censor their discussion for a few nitpicky people.

Well Mount Wario is bumpy for the majority of the track, so ATVs always fair well on it due to the amazing hydraulics on them.

I quite like the Pirahna Plant course too, especially since I had a particularly epic moment on it.

lol Super Star Seeeegaaaaa. :p

While I also find the Rosalina fandom to be kinda borderline creepy at times, they're not the worst thing to grace this series/thread.

I would assume the general discussion/social topic has discussion about her in other games/in general.

I do better on certain courses like Dolphin Shoals and Bone-Dry Dunes with ATVs, though Karts usually get the job done with minimal difference.

It does, but the point is that people shouldn't have to censor talking about their favourite Mario Kart characters in this topic so long as the discussion is clean. And whenever Rosalina has been brought up, it hasn't been in a really creepy sense or anything, and has mostly just been people talking about stats in relation to her (which also apply to three other characters in the game) or posting nice pictures or highlight reels that they captured, be they sincere or comedic/sarcastic.

She just so happens to be the most popular character to use online (based on my own experience and based on a lot of people saying so), so if discussion about her seems prominent compared to other characters, that really can't be helped, especially in stat related discussions, since a lot of people are genuinely most comfortable playing as her.

Based on the topics that have been going on here you might as well call it the Rosalina General Discussion.

To be fair I specifically remember you being excited to share a slow motion video because you caught a close up of Rosa's ass. >.>

I too get a bit creeped out with the Rosalina fandom at times but I'm pretty much used to it by now so I don't really care.

Has anyone noticed the cool little intro scenes right before you start a race? Like the doors opening in Twisted Mansion or the lift being lowered for Mount Wario? I love little details like that.

P.S. :rosalina:

Because I found it humourous that a Mario game of all things gave me a close up of a character's butt. That's not the first time I've gotten a good look at Rosalina's butt, don't worry, it wasn't that exciting or new. You'll also recall that there were other equally funny moments in that video of mine that I wanted to share, such as an extreme close up of Waluigi's face.

And regardless, that's still PG.

I'll fully admit that people probably view me as a creepy Rosalina fan if they follow my tumblr or something, but I keep all of the NSFW stuff and what not there, I keep it clean here on Smashboards.

Yeah, I've always liked the Mount Wario one especially, as well as the GBA Mario Circuit one.

Does anyone else feel like there wasn't enough stat diversity between the playable characters? If I could, I would at least alter the stats for certain characters...

I love this sentence for some reason haha.

I truly wonder if we'll get some arenas for battling as DLC or just multiplayer, hopefully both. I just don't want to pay for anything, ever, so I hope it's free

I could care less for actual arenas, but I am curious how Shine Runners/Coin Battles would work on the new style of Battle Mode.

And what I wouldn't give for Mission Mode from MKDS to make a comeback.

UGH YES! I forgot all about that haha. That was such an interesting and lengthening experience of the game

@ Mario & Sonic Guy Mario & Sonic Guy : I agree, I feel like it's a bit too straightforward. I know Mario Kart is supposed to be relatively simple as far as Kart Racers go, but I wouldn't mind fleshing out character/vehicle customisation a bit more to create more varied stats.

@ TimeSmash TimeSmash : You're welcome. :p

On the topic of DLC, I do feel Nintendo are taking their sweet time announcing some substantial DLC. I was really counting on some to be announced. Considering how early they announced all of that Mario Golf: World Tour DLC, I thought they would hardly be able to contain announcing a slew of it for Mario Kart 8.

And yeah, I'd love a more substantial Mission Mode (or just more diversions to regular racing in general), preferably something as long as and structured similarly to the World Tour in Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed.

I just realize something.

Why are we all here talking about MK8...when we could be playing it
:rosalina::rosalina::rosalina::rosalina::rosalina::rosalina::rosalina::rosalina::rosalina::rosalina::rosalina:
Me personally, I've kinda been taking a break from it since I was playing a lot of it last week, along with my freebie game, NSMBU. I just get tired of plain old racing all of the time. And while I was using NSMBU as a sort of pacebreaker, I 100%'d that (except for the challenges, but I'm sick of those at the minute), and I don't really have friends to play with (anyone who has friend requested me even here never seems to be online when I am - and when it comes to making online MK8 friends, I don't have my boom microphone on me and my dad is watching the World Cup everyday, so I can't really converse with people on Skype or even with the official voice chat).

I meant more worldwide haha. I'm trying to raise my VR, but it is truly an arduous task.

Their voice chat actually works pretty well. Nintendo has definitely been stepping it up/catching up in terms of online play in general

Yeah I just find it very odd to see Rosalina and Waluigi have the exact same stats as Donkey Kong and Roy, when they could sacrifice weight to boost acceleration and traction; this would make their acceleration, weight, and traction stats be tied with that of Mario and Luigi. This would also make it possible for Rosalina and Waluigi to have 3/6 speed and 5/6 acceleration at the same time.

I barely get any time to play anymore really. In the process of getting ready to move, and work, and my atrocious sleep schedule it makes it hard to find time to play with any of you. Besides the usual peoples I play with, I think I've only raced IsmaR and Ndayday from here. Hopefully in a week or so when everything's squared away I'll be able to be more active with y'all.

I took a night to grind/experiment with karts/characters, and now I'm at 4,000 VR. On the verge of getting the Gold Glider, so now I'm working on getting the superfluous Golden Wheel for Tilt-Control driving.

Other than that this game suffers the same problem MK Wii did for me, in that I can only enjoy it with lots of friends. #Salty Splatoon 2 gud

Unlike with Mario Kart Wii, where my main control scheme was the Wii Wheel, I'm more adapted to using the GamePad for Mario Kart 8, thanks to the fact that you have the touch screen, and you're able to use the directional pad to steer; this basically brings back Super Mario Kart memories.

That's exactly it though, all I've been doing for the longest is Global Race, and I'm nearly at 5,000 VR in Races. And it has gotten boring, especially since this game isn't actually spectacular for seriously competitive racing, so I do get frustrated about that at times.

To be honest, I've never actually understood the logic behind heavier characters being automatically bound to speed (I'd assume putting a heavy load onto a vehicle would actually make it slower). And I do find it strange that Rosalina is somehow as heavy as a gorilla and a giant turtle. I know she's got a lot of junk in her trunk, but my suspension of disbelief only goes so far! :V

I really just wish they would not let characters influence stats, and simply make the actual vehicle customisation in depth. That's something I'm not hoping to get until MK9, though, it's a bit too big to be patched in, I'd imagine.

Mario Kart Wii is definitely not bad by any means, but I think it may be my least favorite in the series, solely because I would get screwed over SO many times by items, I'd basically be getting comboed. But I did really like steering with the wheel, and doing the tricks which have since become a staple. So it actually may not be my least favorite haha. What an unavailing post this turned out to be

The funny thing is though, Rosalina and Waluigi are quite thin, so despite being large in height, they're actually more middleweight material. Whereas, Donkey Kong and Roy are much bulkier, so being classified as heavyweights makes complete sense for them.

Thats because Weight is an imperfect translation from the Japanese versions, its more like body size or body mass or whatever in the Japanese version and they translated it to Weight for the English versions.

Well, whatever Nintendo's reasons, they still seem quite odd, seeing as Waluigi is a middleweight in Double Dash!! and Mario Kart DS. Rosalina is pretty much in the same situation as Waluigi, since she too is a tall and thin character.

I always thought Rosalina kind of carried the effects of gravity with her or something to logicalize that subject for me haha. Waluigi being a heavyweight is baffling though haha. Maybe his boots are made of silver or something

Yeah, like I said, the only possible way to rationalise Rosalina being heavy is to think about specific parts of her body that typically shouldn't come into a Mario Kart discussion, even if it technically is sound rationalisation.

-------

As for MKWii, it's personally my least favourite in the series. I hate the item balance with a passion (though to be honest, MK8 isn't THAT much better and has more than a few of it's own issues). But more than anything, I really don't like how the game feels kin-aesthetically. The vehicles didn't feel like real karts/bikes, they felt like RC toys.

Extra credit for remembering the two exclamation points in Double Dash!!'s title

Mario Kart Wii would might as well be called Mario "Bike" Wii, seeing as bikes were far superior in that game. Mario Kart 8 did resolve this by removing the wheelie boosts, and by making the inside drifting bikes not able to drift so strongly as the Bullet Bike and Mach Bike.

The only thing I didn't like about MKWii was the blue shell insanity. They showed up so often....and usually at the worst times just due to bad timing. I swear I had some of the absolute worst luck in MKWii's online mode, especially on my last night of it.

With my terrible luck aside though, it still remains one of my favorites in the series.
