I would definitely suggest renting SPM instead. It's fun, but is very short and has very little replay value IMO. I sold it after beating it once. Keep in mind I still own every other Paper Mario game released and Super Mario RPG. This one just wasn't worth keeping after beating.

mgd=Mario General Discussion.

And I bought Dragon Quest V, can't wait to start playing it...

But tonight, I'm going to be playing my first offline matches competitively, woo! :D.

The ToS sequel seemed good, but nowhere near as good as the first one TBH. Never beat either though, they were both rentals. I want to get the 1st one though... (But that'll probably fall behind Baten Kaitos Origins and Viewtiful Joe 2.)

I actually wasn't a fan of Super Paper Mario. I liked the whole RPG thing about it and it's what I thought made it good. It's like a handheld Super Mario, but he's paper. I liked Paper Mario and Thousand Year Door a lot. I thought Paper Mario had a hilarious commercial like SBB.

Sonic Unleashed is terrible, please don't buy it. This is coming from a huge Sonic fan.
So true. Matador please don't hate me for this, but most Sonic games have sucked after Adventure 2 Battle. Heroes was ok. Seven Rings just so bad. (couldn't even control your movement) Unleashed sucked and Black Knight looks bad. I haven't played it, but Sonic should not get a sword:mad:

Super Paper Mario is what happens when you tell an RPG crew to design a platformer. All the charm of the previous Paper Mario games is still there, but some of the **** they try to pull with the gameplay is just infuriatingly stupid.

Umm...well I'm a Square Enix fan, anything Final Fantasy related. Also Call of Duty 5 if you like FPS', it's not that bad of a game for me and I generally don't like FPS soo.

SPM was too short and too easy. I hope they go back to turn based stuff or make it harder cause a decent player will get through that game with no problems. I think the Mario and Luigi's are kinda easy too since you can dodge everything, and dont get hit too hard for getting hit.

I had some trouble with some of the final bosses in both games. Took me a couple of tries and some time to figure out all the attacks and I'm normally under level in these kinds of games cause I'm awesome and able to do that. I had had trouble beating Smithy in Super Mario RPG because I was like in the low 20s

Best RPG ever: Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door.

Better than any FF game for realz. Dead serious by the way.

The game engine is as close to perfect as you'll find in any RPG in terms of battle system, overworld, technical demand, story, you name it. Well, it's a bit easy, but that's literally the ONLY thing that's even remotely bad about it.

I got a PS3 recently, anybody have any recommendations?

I've been playing Marvel vs. Capcom 2 a lot :D
Fighting games: SF4 and BlazBlue. Both pretty awesome in their own right, but both are also for 360.

Platformers: Uncharted (sorta), Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction, Batman Arkham Asylum (great game if you're into comic games. It's an absolutely incredible piece of work. Had me geekin out left and right)

FPS games: lolkillzone2

RPG: Valkyria Chronicles. Not sure what other games are out for it.

That's a huge "con" for a game to have, especially when you're talking to a competitive gaming community.

We like that DS Contra type difficulty....the type that makes you want to /wristswitharustyspoon

Yeah SPM was too easy... I beat it without ever getting a game over o.o
Same here. the closest I got to a G over was when I was at the last floor of Flopside's Pit, second time. Besides that, I actually had to suicide to see the g over screen. way too easy.

@inferno

I usually fight A LOT so I'm usually never under leveled lol.

I'd disagree to some extent. Ever played Golden Sun, the Lost Age? The hardest boss in that game is Dulahan, and he's simply an unfun boss to play against because he's too stupidly overpowered and able to wipe your entire team out in one attack if you get unlucky enough. The only way to "legitimately" beat him is by power leveling your characters obscenely, which is a drag and also unfun.

My guys are like all level 25 and I still die in about 10 turns from Smithy. So I just stopped playing .
What you didn't go to Culex? Shame...jk Which he wasn't too hard either if you were prepared.

Nahh, I missed Culex as well =P, I'd probably get wrecked by him.

A2, Dullahan I didn't find him that hard probbaly because my characters were level 60 when I decided to fight him. The last boss was way more difficult. My friend beat the game and his party was 10 level's lower then mine, my stragedy just sucked. And levelling your characters isn't so bad with Random Cap + fighting Fire Bird's.

I honestly was never into the Golden Sun games. However, if he was anything like Velius of FFT, which falls along those lines of preparation to beat him successfully, then I think I'd welcome the challenge.

As long as it doesn't feel like the game's cheating me, I love being challenged. It's like 60% of the reason why I play Mario.

Keep in mind that it's an RPG; "hard" in a normal game usually means you have to improve your own skills to beat it, while "hard" in an RPG means you have to grind for hours so your numbers are high enough to beat it.

Also hahaha SOLID got banned for talking about drugs.

Are you playing hard mode? It honestly took me like a million tries to beat him when my characters were at around level 57-58.

What's gay however is that when Dulahan uses Charon, literally, if you get unlucky enough, I've had it happen where it instantly wipes out your entire team. Even if it just randomly wipes out a healer, it's ridiculously crippling.

The worst part is you can't do anything like PP block it or Aura guard against it. He just randomly can pick that move with no penalty to himself and it WILL **** you if you get unlucky. He can even use it more than once per turn, or what he can also do is Djinn Storm -> Charon, which is even more likely to wipe you out due to the luck drop from losing Djinn.

Seriously, I hate bosses that can simply win if you just get RNG screwed a particular way.

If you think of grinding as practicing to get better in a game like Melee or Contra if you want to stretch it that far, they're not too different.

Same destination, just different roads to get there...and not even THAT different. A competitive gamer will probably be into the whole Pokemon EV training n whatnot or grinding in WoW than the casual gamer.

I got a game over ONCE in SPM. It was at the very beginning when that guy asks you if you want to save the world. I kept saying no and i got a game over. Also what kind of villain name is Count Bleck? Seriously, I thought that was an idiotic name.

I agree with all but the 1st line. I prefered Super Mario RPG, though both were truly amazing games.

I beat Smithy at like level 20. SMRPG was too easy.
Well... Lazy shell makes the game too easy :p

But yeah, Mario RPGs have never really been hard. That was probably the hardest one, and it still wasn't hard.

Also, on SMP, I have to say though, I did like what they did with some of those worlds and some of the ideas they had.

That's like saying riding a motorcycle at 80MPH through an obstacle course is the same thing as walking through it. Yeah, they both essentially get you to the same place, but one is fun and takes skill and thought, while the other is just tedious and robotic. The main similarity between the two is invoking the "I wanna be the very best, like no one ever was" instinct, but after awhile it starts to sink in that you're just getting arbitrarily higher stat numbers than someone or something else rather than doing anything worthwhile.

Been a while since l posted.

Give me good reasons why l should keep Mario and actually use him in tourney and not have any doubt in my Mario? x_x.
None of us have the skill to win in a tournament, so you might as well kick it with the low tiers.

When I say "kick it with the low tiers", I'm telling you to stick with Mario because he's fun and none of us will win a tournament, even if we switch.

Going 100% Mario isn't smart unless you're really good though.
