The main tournament page will be out before tomorrow, but here is the basic info:
Venue has been set:
14972 Sand Canyon Avenue
Irvine, CA 92618
Date has been set: September 12th (approx. 3 weeks from now)

So the previous venue is not working out, mostly because it is booked for every Saturday and Sunday until October 17th.
I'll be looking myself of course, but if anyone has an idea feel free to throw it my way.
Connor's house is the backup plan, but I was hoping I could get something better. Doing Pools and having a lot of friendly/teaching TVs wouldn't quite be ideal in his garage (but his tournaments ****).

Update:
Temporary AIB Link to make things easier for me.
I am working with Jkun
on booking the venue. Apparently it is pretty popular.
It's in Irvine, CA.
Until then, this is how the tournament will likely be run:
$3 Entry fee
Teams and Singles events
Ranked players can attend, but will not be allowed to enter the tournament.
Standard ruleset -
Exceptions:
No wobbling, stage striking as opposed to random reset for first game of the set
DK64 is a Neutral stage for Singles only. Green Greens may not be used as a counterpick stage.
Pools for Singles if there are at least 32 entrants and 8 setups, winners advance to a 16-man bracket. Otherwise standard double elimination bracket.
Get people to come! This means you San Diego! Sleepy, Palmdale, 24, mikeHAZE, Riverside, and BRAWL PEOPLE looking to get into Melee this is your chancE!
Prizes will be cash-
Pot split:
40-30-20-10 % for both Singles and Teams
ranked people are allowed to come under three conditions
1. they feel like teaching people
2. they dont hog the tvs
3. they dont enter the tournament
That's it for now.

i was thinking of doing a tournament where only non-ranked people are invited
it'd be like $3 entry fee
but in any case there would be guaranteed friendly tvs (provided that enough tvs are brought) and it'd basically be a tournament to try and get everyone better
also this would be a good time to do crew battles of any sort
and im betting there will be a lot of MMs
if enough TVs are brought (like 10 at least) we could do pools if people want them
