All this really depends on what you define as "good". You can't use Sonic in the same way as any other character, his moves just aren't strong enough on their own to beat your opponent.

But he's fast enough that his mindgames can be unparalleled. Lag is one of the least of Sonic's worries. If the player can predict and manipulate their opponent enough, Sonic's the bomb.

So really, it all depends on the player's skill, which is the way Smash should be.

You know, about half the time I see you posting, it's you just bashing someone or something about a character or a persons thread or some ****, if you're going to play a character and be 'good' as him, don't go around telling everyone else that they're going to suck as him. I find it humeral that you're a smash DEBATER but you give ppl such a vague response and expect people to believe in what you are saying. I don't think you have the right to tell ppl they going to fail, first of all. People like you were saying the same thing when the very first technical fox (with the waveshines, aerial to wave shines etc) was born. Saying stuff like "oh, your fox will never be able to do this blah blah." Sure, majority of the fox are nowhere near Silent Wolf's tech skill, but nonetheless...all solid foxes can perform waveshines and aerial to waveshines, a massvie bunch. And why is this? HARD WORK and refusing to believe in negativ comments like yours. Ok sure, Sonic isn't the best character, but he isn't a bad character like Bowser in melee. Yeah, perfect example...you see your comment would be absolutely correct if you was talking about melee bowser, hence why gimpy is like the only hot bowser. To me, this doesn't apply to Sonic, least not to that degree.

I'm with you that sonic isn't a sheik (pick up and play character) but I guarantee there will be allot of successful players. For one, no real tech skill. All you really got to do is play smart and know what moves are needed when see fit.

Keep in mind I'm not mad, just debating is all. Don't take it personally.

Just because 1 person went ahead to say Sonic sucks, doesn't necessarily mean everyone else should go ahead and follow his opinion. "Sonic sucks" to me is a bit extreme, because I can name a few others who are worse. Yes, he's not that good and quite possibly a bad character because of his higher learning curve but he does not suck, and thats what im going to accept at this moment.

When it comes to higher tier characters, a good Sonic player will have to outplay the higher tier which is possible and usually the case for every character.

i wasn't even trying to troll with that post at all, and i wasnt saying it because lucky said sonic wasnt good. i really dont think hes good, hes really bad. i do troll sometimes but usually its a poor attempt at humor

that was acually a sarcastic post btw. im glad people still have some humor on these forums. i guess i just wont try and bring humor to anything anymore.

me and lucky did acually had a small talk about his unplayiblility and people wanting to play him last week or something. we want to help, and im pretty sure that evident. he was talking about makeing a how to combo vid and i thought it was a great idea.

My thoughts on why Sonic ain't good...

I believe that Sonic was balanced with two things in mind: 1. Free for alls, and 2. The smash ball.

Let's start with free for alls. Sonic is very able to just run away in a FFA match, due to his speed. His recovery and fast running speed allows him to kill steal effectively and not be hit easily while everyone else beats each other up.

The smash ball is my other point. Sonic's speed allows him to get to the ball easily, and he is balanced by being less able to break it than many other characters. His FS is amazing and allows him to get a LOT of KO's in FFA, not so much in 1v1. In fact, (this is probably the most important point) Sonic's FS is so good at getting KOs in FFA that the devs made (almost) none of his other moves able to easily KO, as a balancing move. You ban the smash ball, you take away Sonic's main source of kills.

The combination of these balancing factors makes Soic subpar in tournament play.

Sonic doesn't need to kill in ffa's. He just needs a stage he can homing stall on and possibly be fighting someone who cant hit him while he's down there.

i totally agree i LOVE sonic dont get me wrong and i still rep and play him a lot and consider him one of my mains but hes just not good its like trying to kill a kid with a toothpick when theres a gun right next to you...its not bad you can have fun challenging yourself but its just too hard lmao

ive been picking up other characters but i practice sonic the most dedication towards that hedgehog (i can play mad characters better than him but i love the lil guy)
