i dunno if anyone else has had a similar experience
but my kills per match just about doubled
after i started B-sticking
<3Bair
Ugh... B-sticking is useless with Sonic... they are all momentum fixed specials that he charges. And B-air isnt a special move. Its an aerial attack that has nothing to do with b-sticking.

I can't see the point of b-sticking with Sonic, but whatever works for some I guess. I'm more concerned about chaining SH uairs and spacing my Fairs.

edit: and this is coming from a guy who uses Toon Link.

I do it mostly so all i gotta do is a quick tap on the C-stick for the turnaround/SH
and Bair is my usual kill move
-shruggeh-
i never even touched the C-stick in melee
so i guess i just had nothing to lose

hey, new to the smashboards just dropping in. i never used the c-stick in melee either so maybe i'll give b sticking a shot if it makes RARing quick and easier to pull off.

I'm just your problem~
Reverse Aerial Rush. Standardly, you would just run, smash the analog in the opposite direction, then perform an aerial in the direction you were headed. With a B-Stick, you run, smash the C-Stick in the opposite direction, and you would automatically turn AND jump at the same time, allowing you to keep momentum while performing a bair.

But this isn't really great for sonic, as you could be using the c-stick for other aerials so you could space better.

b sticking is pretty bad on Sonic since you cant even charge his dashes with it as far as I know and it all goes to a faster and easier RAR which doesnt seem like that great of a trade off for C sticked smashes.

And I dont care how much everybody (including me I guess) says Sonic sucks, Im still using Sonic no matter what. That's my Smash bros way, Believe it!

I watch too much English Naruto :D

I wanna go on the journey lol.I think Sonic can be just as good as anyone. It's already been said but I think he has the biggest learning curve.I make many mistakes with him because I'm used to having higher priority on my moves than Sonic.I main him because I see potential in him and he is a fun character to be.He is someone I wanna stick with until the end.I wanna be the best Sonic player.Seems lofty to me now but hopefully once I can grasp some strategies I can be a force.

I too will be going on the "journey". What else will there be to accomplish in Brawl after a few weeks?
I already beat a good percentage of the game.

I think Gimpy said it once in a youtube video that you can't realize the potential of certain characters without acknowledging their weaknesses. You have to tell yourself 'My character sucks ... now what?' I can either...

A ) Change to Marth

or

B ) Learn how capitalize strengths and minimize weaknesses.

Lucky, the only reason I love playing Sonic is because his hot attitude reminds me of melee Fox. Sonic's running in spot taunt rocks too! I wish I could change the language so I can hear it in Japanese.

I see me going back to good old technical melee for me. XD

I too want to make sonic good. I mained sheik in melee so it wasn't too hard to be good with her, but being a big sonic fan i'm willing to spend the time to get through this learning curve. As of now i'm decent, but nothing compared to what i've seen from the videos on these boards. I can beat the ppl I play but not consistently yet. Either I'll win in a close fight or get pwned haha.

wow dude, i love the name "disguy"

making sonic better just involves, like any character, knowing what you cna do to counter whatever your opponent is doing, or knowing when you need to gtfo.

and also, learning all your tricky skills like the triple hit SD, hyphen smash timing, edge hogging, spring gaurding, spring2ariel chases, moving Fsmash... mastering the timings of all your attacks, and dodges/rolls.

and learning to use all of your moves properly so you dont suicide (dair, >B)

and also! learning all the moves that give you delay,

over all, just master the mechanics of your character, everything from the way they move, to the way they brush their teeth. you have to BE your character, so the controls have to feel fluent, like ur not controlling anythign but urself. THIS AINT NO GAME, THIS IS SMASH! THIS IS LIFE! haha.

become one with sonic, essentially.

Hey guys, I've been reading the forums and have mustered up some courage to participate in this discussion.

So i'm new to Melee and Brawl haven't owned a gamecube so i jumped from n64 -> wii's brawl. I have been using sonic since i unlocked him and yea you guys are right in that he gets slapped around because you can't take people head on, but i've noticed he's amazing at gimping people from their recoveries. Can't a sonic game be based off of just as someone said, running around, and doing small combos when you get a shot, then knocking them off a decent distance and just gimping the hell out of their recovery.

I mean you've got so many creative options for gimping, personally (and even being a 'noob') i've found it pretty easy to time your fair and knock the guy further back as he's coming back or doing Sonic's up special to jump up high and fair or uair.

Another thing i saw was the use of the spring that comes out when you special up, I think it was interimOfZeal who got some guys pretty good with that.

I guess what i'm saying is perhaps he should be played more like a defensive character and once you get the opponent off the platform you keep him off since he can go ANYWHERE as people have said.

Which is why you should be both offensive and defensive. His speed allows him to create or remove distance very easily. However, I believe that a strictly defensive sonic is not a good idea. Deffinately put pressure on players when they are trying to recover, but have a solid ground game too... afterall, sonic's ground speed is superior... he's not as superior in the air. I continuously frustrate myself when I find other characters aerials having more priority.

very accurate, you have been reading a lot.

sonic is fast which allows him to play defencive or offencive. i would say the best option is to play offencive vs slow characters, and play defencive vs fast ones. the general rule is once you knock your oponents feet out from under them, you switch to offencive mode regardless. becuzz a lot of times their only option is to try to avoid your attack, where as u have a chance to deal damage or kill them.

seems liek that would utilize your supurior speed the best. as far as killing, its all the same really..

sonic is a gimper and a chaser.

haha thanks. Yea i've got most of his tricky skills down, just gotta work on using them in the right situations and becoming less predictable. I'll be sure to study how sonic brushes his teeth to learn the timing of his attacks haha.

Kinda suprised no one stressed that maining sonic requires you to know the move set of everyone forwards and backwards. With such low priority, knowing that jigglypuff can get through most of your attacks is very key to victory.

well really. most attacks in general go thru sonic's attacks . ... SD is pretty much his only high priority move, and even that gets beat by some things... and its definately key to know who knows those moves and what they are.

I was thinking: sonic actually doesent have to be less predictable so much.

but as a sonic, you definately have to be able to predict your opponent.

sonic's speed should allow him a way to counter anything if you can predict your opponent.

Being able to predict with sonic is huge for my game. Of course, a lot of sonic's moves look, start similar which makes him harder to predict.

i think that sonic's speed just makes prediction and being unpredictable his strong points in the game.

not so much that you have to rely on it, but it is actually easier to predict and be unpredictable with sonic.
