Almost exclusively Lunatic. Did Lunatic+ once. Not sure if I would call it harder than Lunatic. Just adds RNG to a series that already has more than it could ever need.

I like the idea of Lunatic+, as the skills the enemies are given do seem suited to preventing common player strategies, and the random nature of the distribution of the skills means the player will always have to think on their feet, but it wasn't implemented well.

I'm having a hard time getting to the skill level that Lunatic requires. Awakening is really my introduction into the genre, so I'm learning everything as I go. Mostly doing Normal or Hard (casual) at the moment, though I hope to eventually advance to the Lunatic/Classic level.

Difficulty depends on my mood but I always play classic just to get that feeling. Game feels much cooler if you know you can lose your characters. In reallife soldiers won't come back if they are beaten either.

@ Hong Hong What I also like about Sumia/Lucina is that it is rather easy to get Galeforce with her, hate it when I have to train my characters 15 levels in Dark flier class if it's only for galeforce. Eather+Rightfull king+Galeforce for some reason always works out for me. An the fun thing is that Cynthia will get Eather and galeforce as well even if Cynthia doesn't need to inherit it at all from Sumia.

Lunatic/Casual is a good compromise.

You're a smart guy. You'll get their eventually. As much as people say Lunatic early game is all RNG, aside from being crit by the early mages, I'd disagree with them. Every time I have started a new file, it always goes smoothly without resets. After you get past Ch3, the game becomes remarkably easy.

My advice is, if your Robin isn't Speed based, focus on getting Chrom as much EXP as possible from chapters 0-2. I generally don't have a strong Robin until Ch4, but after that point, she is a fairly dominant force.

I play on hard (classic) no resets or I play on Lunatic Classic (with resets). I really dislike Lunatic Plus. I beat LP once on casual but I cant stand it.

LP is annoying. Lunatic is pretty annoying too and uses a terrible balancing formula (high stats everywhere =/= adequately higher challenge level that is more challenging in an interesting way) but at least I can actually beat the game on Lunatic without resetting 50 times per level.

Path of Radiance did difficulty best. The Japanese version had Maniac Mode that, instead of giving everyone ridiculous numbers, instead increased the numbers of enemies and greatly reduced the EXP. You still need to have good mathematical ability to be able to calculate just how many enemies a unit can withstand in succession.

In general I hate when reinforcements can appear and attack on the same turn. Feels more like a test of memory than mind.

I want a Lunatic Plus mode in the next Pokemon game. That would be fun. Also, the Little Mac hoodie alt make me hope we get the yukata for Lucina as an alt.

It's kind of BS how reinforcements randomly show up if you Don't know(forgot about them) and attack you from behind just when you had the proper setup to deal with the other characters to begin with.
I also try to beat the game on harder difficulties without using DLC grinding, annoying without level grinding. :S

Awakening characters are very anime, very hit-or-miss. I find the characters who were made from generic tropes like Vaike were amusing at first, but a year later there are no bards singing his song. In these times there are only ballads of characters with more substance or more interesting features, such as this thread's titular hero, and yes, Chrom as well. I find oddly enough the children characters are typically way better written than most of the first generation, especially Brady.

A lot of people hate on Severa, but I liked her very much. I think one of the reasons was that the first support I A-Ranked with Severa was with Noire, in which she is extremely ... not Tsundere. Her support with Cynthia is also gold, showing a really funny and decently realistic competitive rivalry and her support with Kjelle, while it could have been better written, did show more sides to Severa's character. I found it quite amusing that Severa cared a lot about her appearance and behaving like a LADY in the midst of a post/preapocalyptic hellwar with zombies. If you slam the male supports one after another yeah, she comes across as very annoying, but Severa treats her sisters really well. She's very endearing, even if she has no idea how to act around guys. (And come on, she's such a dork because of that.)

My guilty pleasure is Gerome.

I don't know, I just like a good emo ***** character such as Cecil Harvey as long as they are genuinely just moody and not poorly written. If you actually see his supports, you can tell he just acts the way he does out of denial, and merely lashes out at others because he can't control his inner pain.

I know, I sound like Dr. Phil writing song lyrics here, but I think he gets too much flack. It's okay. Cherche knows.

It's not like other Fire Emblem games are much better characterwise though. Even the much lauded Tellius. Sure, Elincia and Jill are excellent characters, but they share their games with characters like Ilyana, Brom, Makalov, and others. Is Ilyana really a much better character than Vaike?

Admittedly, Vaike is a poor choice in that comparison, but I think my point stands regardless. Is a better example is Brom really a much better character than Donnel?

Yes, actually. The Greil Mercenaries are by far and wide the best cast of characters the series has seen.

Really? Ilyana has 5 support conversation, and thus 15 supports. She still only has one defining characteristic: she's obsessed with food. I'd argue that quite a few of Awakening cast are better than that. And what of Brom? Is he a better character than, say, Gregor or Donnel?

I wasn't directly addressing the question your post ended with, but I'll do so now if you wish.

As far as Ilyana is concerned, she is a quirk character. Folks like her, Dozla, and Xane were interesting by virtue of the fact their surrounding cast are more realistic. Even Mia is a believable character. When you met her in Path of Radiance, she was younger and so much more unrealistic about her dreams, and as such she seemed naive. While her desire to duel this mysterious opponent is still there in Radiant Dawn, she realizes there is more to life. This is reflected in how she voluntarily stayed with the Greil Mercenaries.

With Ilyana, she is an unrealistic character, and even her aspirations which are as crazy as Mia's, cannot be grounded by having much dimension outside of her quirk. That said, she was special because there were not as many cooky characters in the same cast. Who else seemed off beat... maybe Danved?

The value of being quirky is no longer valuable when the majority of the cast is quirky, especially when they don't have intended layers to their personality. Virion, for example, seems like a generic romantic, but underneath that facade lies one of the most interesting characters in Awakening.

I did mine first playthrough on Hard Mode and Classic Mode. If it is an option, I will probably do Lunatic/Classic Mode on mine next playthrough. Being a long-time fan of the Fire Emblem series, I personally hate Casual Mode.

I don't understand why people hate Severa either :(
She is awesome and possibly one of the better characters to, at least I think she is.

EDIT: I thnk Lucina would indeed be unlockable.

Donnel is awesome. So broken.
Want to know why characters like Donnel, Cherche, Say'ri and Sumia shine out, even as unimportant characters?

Because they had both a beginning and ending of a chapter to build character. A lot of folks like Miriel never even had that luxury. Not only that, Donnel was given a profound purpose for why you want him to be with you, why you want him to stay alive, something to look forward to until the end. The conversation with his mother always makes me teary.

Love Donnel, both as a unit and as a character.

I still don't agree with your stance on pairing, but I wish you the best regardless.

For me, the stat bonuses are the entire reason I do it. I guess since I normally only play Fire Emblem games with 6-8 characters, I just see the extra deployment slots as a battery compartment. Dual Strike/Support Guard are never planned around, but if they happen, I can adjust my strategy to their benefit.

In general, a slow or average unit can benefit from a fast support like Lon'Qu or Sumia. Chrom and Sumia is a SHINING example, since she can fly Chrom around for a lot of the earlier chapters, get into a secure position fast, scarcely suffer and injury and always double. Inversely, someone fragile like Sumia herself can really benefit from Kellam's defence bonus, and every character for a good while loves to have Freddy at their side.
I'm betting Lucina's going to be a secret character.
Honestly?

Would probably be for the best. Lucina would take a bit of explaining to outsiders of the series.

If you make a trailer with her acting as Marth and she takes of her mask and the trailer and combo's begin, most people would know who it is I think.

That's true. I suppose intrigue would work to her favour.

Dreading the rush of rule #63 Marth or "I knew all along" jokes, though.

I kinda tend to forget Say'ri exists. Probably due to the fact she doesn't a future kid.
