Well, he's already gone on a record to say the equipment does not change your actual appearance.:054:

So what sort of play-style do people envision for Lucina? I personally have trouble imagining any style other than rush-down. Marth and Ike in their various iterations tend to favor offense to varying degree, but both ultimately come down to something more along the lines of "aggressive zoning with disjointed hitboxes", in a fashion. Marth's goal is to ultimately get you off the stage and prevent you from coming back as a primary means of winning - he can do this by trapping you in either his excellent sword combos or good grab game to put you in a very disadvantageous situation. The version of Ike I'm most familiar with (P:M) can really look he's solid rush-down too. I realized I'm splitting hairs to a certain degree, but Ike's form of play is more like keeping you on your toes with his burst range and wide coverage rather than just charging at you with safe approaches. It's because Ike's approaches can be stuffed due to their linearity but once he catches a mis-step to punish, it's tough to escape his ability to zip to various locations and cover most of your options. I've trapped most of the characters in terrible situations where even if they get out of hit-stun they just can't avoid the follow-up because Ike is too far away to hit, but too close to jump away from. And all the while, heeeeeeere's Ragnell, coming in your face.

... That became more of a PM rant than I meant it to be. The point I'm coming to is that I can see Lucina being a sword-user that doesn't threaten with her reach and coverage as much, but just has explosive movement and quick strikes that flow into each other and pack a serious punch. She however probably wouldn't share her predecessors ability to control a lot of space because most of her strikes don't cut out a lot of space, or mostly travel into the Z-axis. Thoughts?

I think Lucina would be more of an movement character. Running around and hit the opponent to get out quikly again. Kind of hit and run maybe. I would see the long range stab she does in Awakening as a good sideB( maybe chargeable?). As I never played
Project M. I can't say how Marth or Ike plays in that. In Brawl Marth needs spacing and so does Ike. Lucina would be more of an character to get in, land a few hits and get out. I also think she would be a great edgeguarder.

painfull :( For te first time since I joined this support group I see our thread on the 2nd page.

I can't think of Lucina as anything other than a rushdown character.

She could be the successor to Roy, in that her blade's sweetspot is the middle of the blade instead of the tip (like Marth).
She uses long, swift multi-hitting attacks right all up in the enemy's business.

tl;dr Lucina's playstyle represents her role in Awakening: burning the entire map to the ground by herself in minutes.

As I said in the general character thread, when you think about it, Lucina is Nintendo's best example of a princess. :)

Rush down is really fitting. I see her having good ground and air mobility, decent fall speed, and a good recovery. Her attacks wouldn't have much knockback and she'd be very light so her focus would be getting opponents offstage and gimping them.

Put in Lucina, make her be like Roy... Hey, I'm sold. Roy was my main in Melee. My Meleen. Melain? Words.

Well, no need to be so bold. I know when people say she should be like Roy, they just mean from a gameplay style standpoint, but there are still issues with Roy's design.

The three things I would want from Roy:
1) Fast falling speed
2) Either a close-range sweetspot or a short effective attack range that forces Lucina to get really close
3) That grab range.
BONUS) phier

Lucina needs specials that emphasize mobility and increased pressure. Roy was far too volatile since he didn't have the tools to stay persistent and create KO opportunities at high percentages. Granted, he fared a lot better in PM when they gave him a few more viable kill moves.

I don't think making her like Roy is a good idea at all tbh. I never really saw that much interesting stuff in roy at all, just a marth moveset but without the tipper sweetspot and with a sweet spot in the middle of the sword(Not sure I believe it's the middle.)
I Don't think Lucina needs a Sweetspot in a way like Marth or Roy have. I think her sword should work like MKs sword or even Ike's sword. Her grab range could be slightly above average.
I think she should have a sideB like Ike's but with a stab and less lag if she doesn't hit anything. This way she can use it to have much better movement. (kind of like a dacus in brawl) It should be punishable when it hits shield though, This way you still have to think when you use it.

We're not talking about the moveset, or really his playstyle at all (mainly because he didn't really have one)

We're talking just the idea of having the sweetspot for the blade by in the middle of it, unlike Marth, where it's at the tip.

I also said that I think there shouldn't be a sweetspot on the middle or tip of the blade like Marth and Roy have. I rather have the sword work more like Ike's sword did in Brawl. Basically the whole sword had the same hitbox except for the tip which was a bit weaker in most moves.

After playing Awakening, I've realised that I'll inevitably be disappointed if Lucina doesn't make the roster. I can't think of a better chance to introduce a female Fire Emblem rep. With Ike returning, even though I actually like Chrom, his inclusion as a third male rep would really bother me.

I imagine her as a somewhat heavyweight, fast-falling rush-down character that represents a middle ground between Ike and Marth. I'm thinking high mobility and quick attack options that let her get in, deal damage and get out, but with fewer strong K.O options than Ike and shorter range than Marth. Her aerial game would be weaker than her ground game, but both would be solid, and her specials would revolve around facilitating her movement around the field while racking up damage with little knockback.

Some ideas for specials off the top of my head that follow the theme of quick successive hits:

- Neutral-B: Lucina throws a javelin. This can be charged and flies further based on how long the charge is held. Their trajectory can be controlled similarly to Yoshi's eggs.
- Side-B: A two-stage dash/lunge. Think Link's forward smash but much quicker and with less knockback. The first dash does minimal knockback and can be quickly combo'd out of. The second dash is optional and can be used in either direction to either follow through with a second hit or quickly get out. Could also be used for horizontal recovery.
- Up-B: A two-stage jump attack. The first jump would resemble Marth's Up-B but with less height and the second jump, which would be optional and can be performed at any time between the first jump and landing, would be a multi-hit spinning jump. You can move freely and combo out of the first jump, but are helpless after the second jump until you land again. Both jumps do damage although the second does more, with the ending frame acting as a KO move (think Samus' new screw attack).
- Down-B: A counter attack of sorts, but rather than blocking with her sword, she very quickly dodges around her opponent and hits them vertically into the air as she's moving, which would combo into an aerial or her Up-B. This can be dodged by opponents if the move they used has low enough ending lag and they move out of the way (as with other counters).

- Final Smash: Opens a time portal that pulls in enemies and slows down enemies the closer to the centre that they are, dealing heavy DoT to enemies caught in the centre.

Chrom would be the fourth male rep if we count Roy. If a female fire emblem newcomer doesn't happen this time around I can see it become a safe bet for the next. Especially because a good portion of the lords and most iconic characters are female.

Well, the magic of robin is that He/she can be a blu haired male swordsman rep like chrom, a female rep like lucina, or a magic user rep.... all in one : D.

Regarding Lucina, I loved the character, i certainly would love to have her on smash... is just that while an completely original moveset can be made for her (as can be made with chrom) she is still feels too marthy...

In my ideal world, FE would have 5 reps, Marth/ alt lucina, Ike/ alt black knight, Chrom /alt Roy, Robin /alt Grima and Hanna. (maybe alt Lyn?)
Alts would have same gameplay and proportions, but different model, names, voice sets, animations and maybe small aesthetical changes like flames for Robin, purple flames for Grima ...

Too bad my ideal world doesn't exist : c

Leave.

No matter what you intend to say, it will fall on deaf ears.
This thread will show you no mercy for talking ill of our beloved Lucina.

Ugh, seriously. All comparisons to Marth really just need to kill over already :/

Oh dear ...

Let's finger our crosses, people.
All the fingers are pointing to Shulk at the moment. But since it's virtually guaranteed to be in the roster regardless..if Lucina got revealed, omg...personal hype levels would skyrocket. The rest of Smashboards would be like "WTF?!", but oh well.

You never know. Fire Emblem's newcomer reveal is overdue after all. Though I'd be hype for a Shulk reveal too, tbf, he's likely going to be buffed Ike done right.

(I'm about 55% sure Ike is still going to suck in SSB4.)

@ SvartWolf SvartWolf I'm sorry for indirectly shunning you from our thread, but seriously, we get the "Marth" thing from every non-Lucina fan that comes in here, we've provided tons of evidence to show you why she is different, we would appreciate it if you read at least some of it before making that very obvious statement.

And if your still not convinced, just don't post. This is a support thread.

@SvartViking I accidentally tagged you, ignore this if you see it.

Check the Smashbros official website and you'll see all the details yeah. Wouldn't get my hopes up for Lucina though :/ I still see a FE newcomer reveal as part of a Nintendo Direct.

Three days in advance...wanting everyone to see it happen live...yeah, it's pretty safe to expect someone big at this point. Reason why I said an FE newcomer for a direct would to be reveal someone when finally giving us some SMT x FE news. Granted, this could've been done for Shulk with more X footage at a Direct, but SMT x FE literally has nothing go for it right now, so why not amp it up with a reveal then?

Yeah, it has been confirmed that although no news has been covered publicly for the game, development is still on track and they'll reveal some details at another time when they feel that they're ready.

I don't know what we will get, I don't mind either however I hope it is someone that will prove that leak wrong or at least doesn't support it. I don't want that thing to get even bigger, That is like Grima comming back to the world in awakening.

and Lucina is not surprising?

Lucina is a pretty cool character. It would be great if she were a playable fighter.

Anyone else here agree, or am I alone?

I think I agree with you, Also Monday will be Lucina day I know it will. a bright future where we have destroyed the evil leak. Lucina came from the future to make it happen.

Surprising to us expecting another FE rep tbh, but to the general public I see this as another Wii Fit Trainer or Villager or someone from a totally unexpected franchise. But if it is Lucina imma party :040:
