Wow, I haven't been posting on Smashboards in a while, last time I checked this thread, June 12th, I think, we were on page 15. Now this thread is on it's 25th page in just 2 weeks. Respect for you guys, and I'll now visit this thread often, again.
Both Lucina and Robin are pretty hot topics right now. :) Granted, both threads have a lot of the same people in them.

Is there any particular reason why? Mostly because I haven't heard any Fire Emblem related news that greatly raises their chances besides "Marth" being in the Amiibo picture, which could be something unrelated to Smash.

People are getting over the silliness that ensued after e3, where people got the idea that the Gematsu leak was some kind of prophecy. After that, people for a moment strangely started to assume there was suddenly any less hope of having Lucina or Robin. All they needed was a good verbal/textual boot to the head to get discussion back on track.

Lucina's trailer will definitely involve her making an entrance as Masked Marth and then..

Taking off her mask and have all the male characters all heart-eyed.

Ike's reveal. Despite the fact that no one thought he'd get 'replaced' by Chrom, there's no way it's a coincidence. He made the idea of "three blue haired swordsmen" feel more real. So, people rushed to the alternatives.

brawl already had three blue haired swordsmen (if meta knight's skin counts) :039:
there's no way they're gonna make it 4.

Operating under that logic, beam sword wielding blue Yoshi and blue Kirby are also swordsmen. It's becoming glaringly more obvious that we need some gender differentiation in the blue "haired" sword wielder area. ;)

Yeah.

I felt better about Lucina's chances after seeing Marth. Look at how his design specifically highlights the details that are most different from her, with more square shapes, the choice of the stark yellow weaved into his surcoat, or how he shows off his new-found muscular arms. The visual identity argument went way out the window last year.

At the very least, seeing other FE character's appear in the victory screen isn't too far fetched, especially when you look to Little Mac's victory screens, with that inclusion of a non-playable character.
Off-topic: It would be cool if Soren stood by Ike during his victories. Personally, the Ike and Soren friendship is one of mine favourite character relationships in the Fire Emblem series.

There's a reason Sakurai didn't go with Marth's updated costume.

:039:
Personally, I am glad they did not use Marth's Awakening design. In mine opinion, it just does not suit him at all.

Honestly, I can really see them pulling a Wii Fit Trainer with Chrom and Lucina by having them share the same slot. You can choose between the two, and they will both have different voices, lines, and whatnot, but they will have the exact same moveset and properties. I can see them doing the same with Pit and Dark Pit as well.

I can really see them pulling a Wii Fit Trainer too. Lucina as the main, and Masked Marth as the other, sharing the same slot.

I personally have a lot of trouble seeing Chrom and Lucina in the same slot. Though they do share similar fighting styles (with Lucina having been taught by her father after all), I think sharing animations, height, and hitboxes between the two would be significantly weirder than the share between the trainers. And much less aesthetically pleasing for that matter. The Pit/Dark Pit seems more likely, but even there I see a palate swap being most likely.

Anyway, IF they could properly pull it off, I wouldn't be unhappy with the two being included in such a manner. I just can't see it working/happening.

EDIT: You know, scratch that last bit: I would be unhappy. The more I think about it, the more I don't want them to plug two very different people with similar style into a single slot, even if it were feasible. I'd honestly rather only have one character than to jumble them like that. But that's just me.

Well, Namco does do that with Tekken. So I can imagine it happening, they'd probably get a different trophy on clearing classic mode, have the announcer say their name...basically treat them both like different characters.
Though I feel they might as well just give her her own slot at that point. Sure, people would complain we have clones...but since both are newcomers, Lucina fans can accuse Newcomer Chrom of being the clone :troll:

Lucina and Chrom sharing a slot is possible from a technical standpoint. Don't forget, the difference in height between the two trainers is bigger in Wii Fit than it is in Smash Bros, and they still are not equally as tall in this game.

From a personal standpoint, it's hard to say. I was going to go on about how they have different stances and it would really suck if Lucina took on Chrom's stance since her stance is so cool, and how Lucina's stance doesn't make sense for Chrom (it's intended for a shorter warrior)...

But you know what? I would just be dancing around the elephant in the room. Chrom is just a bad pick. A lot of his stylistic choices literally build upon what Ike started years ago.

Between people saying he would be a ****ty addition to Smash Bros, all the R34 of him on the Internet, and how much a lot of Fire Emblem elitists hate the guy, I can't blame him for sighing at whatever he sees.

Hm, I'm not knowledgeable on the Tech side of things, so thanks for clearing that up.

Stylistically, Lucina is the better pick between the two hands down in my book. I'd also place Robin in over Chrom in that regard, as well as many other FE reps.

As far as sighing Chrom.. I feel sorry for the guy. He does get a lot more flack than I feel he deserves, even if he is lacking in areas. Sigh on buddy.

There is too much R34 of Chrom onthe interwebs. Need more pics for the ladies.
Exactly like Marth and Roy.
Chrom is saddened after e3.

I wonder what he'll do if Lucy makes it in.

I was thinking of making one(because he's my fav unit save for Chrom and his family mems)...but I figured people would think I was joking :l
Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Gregor. I recently S ranked him with Panne, and fell in love with the character. But a smash representation never remotely occurred to me, so that sudden visualization brought forth semi-hysterical laughter.

Edit: I wonder what Lucy's newcomer artwork would entail? That would definitely be interesting.

Some people think we FE fans are too greedy. And we ask for "to much" compared to other series. Only Mario and Pokemon have more character requests. WHY DO PEOPLE NOT UNDERSTAND THAT FE JUST HAS WAY TO MANY CHARACTERS THAT WOULD BE AWESOME AS HELL? I never saw any series with that many characters that stick to your mind because of how well they are designed and the fact that they are unique on their own way being personal or their looks.
Pokemon also has this going for it and Mario kind of has this. (don't forget Zelda) but other series have like 5 characters that make the story and are important to the story If they even have that many.
Nintendo in general is king of the world in this sole aspect which is why I play nintendo.

Like @ Thane of Blue Flames Thane of Blue Flames said in that one post sometimes you just can't resist the way they made the characters.
Kind of off-topic but I had to say this. :)

The guy in the middle of that picture looks like something you would get if Chrom and POR Ike did this:

Anyhow, in all honesty, I really would rather just have Lucina in the game. But, what I meant to say was I could see them putting in both Lucina and Chrom just to please the fans. Personally, I do not dislike Chrom; he is a pretty good character, personality-wise. I just think his design looks too generic.

Everyone calling off Lucina as a Marth clone should observe the following images.

[collapse= Chrom and Lucina.]

[/collapse]

Chrom's build is not as thick as Ike's but is heavily based off in between the two.
[collapse= Ike.]

[/collapse]

Marth's build, to me, seems much closer to Chrom while Lucina is more shapely with a smaller frame like that of Lyn and with attire more adjusted to her body like Sheik's.
[collapse= Other.]

[/collapse]

All the misjudgement of Lucina being a Marth clone comes down to this image, and the real Marth does not resemble the one on this picture, nor does his attire due to his new Shadow dragon look.

I don't think it's being too greedy at all. There are no fixed amount of reps that a franchise gets anyway. As an RPG series that doesn't share the same protagonist and set of characters throughout it's entirety, it shouldn't be a surprise to see all the requests - the amount of support threads we have representing one franchise pretty much demonstrates that. The main thing that people are arguing for is just better representation overall. While it is true that Fire Emblem presents several viable candidates for Smash, we don't really need or have to have as many characters as Mario, Pokemon and LoZ either. In my opinion, having Marth and Ike return as the Fire Emblem vets is fine (within the FE universe, they're among the few recurring characters anyway). Outside of those two, having simply one other rep is fine by me, but it really needs to point in another direction. Whether it be Lucina (Sakurai pls), Robin (Sakurai pls), Anna (Sakurai pls) or someone else, it just needs to represent something more.

Yeah, people have brought up points that Sakurai opting to not go with Marth's Awakening design may hint at something :awesome:

But at this point, the Lucina being a Marth clone argument is already blown away.

Chrom is saddened after e3.

that reminds me of something that I sort of think about when it comes to Awakening. The game takes place 2000 years after FE3 and there is no real technological improvement in the world. It's a standard trope in medieval storylines, but I feel there is a good story there somewhere. Or an interesting one.

One of the original ideas for Awakening was to have the game take place in present. While that probably wouldnt work, I think Fire Emblem is ripe for a really cool steampunk setting. The problem is that once you go steampunk, you can't really go back to medieval, unless its a side story. Final Fantasy went in that direction and in many ways the series is completely unrecognizable (also the death of turn-based non-strategy JRPGs as blockbuster titles).

Lucina's time travel machinations could get her there, and by extension the rest of the FE universe. What would steampunk Lucina look like? I guess probably the same, Lucina is very modern lady.

FE and Pokemon are really the two ongoing generation series. Mother does that too but its dormant. Pikmin is also going in that direction but the characters dont really seem to important to me. Pokemon gets around this because for the most part, Pikachu becomes available at some point anyway no matter which generation. But FE is about a new world for most of the games, as it really didnt have a second sequel until Awakening. The amount of awesome characters are too large to fit in Smash and could really use their own type of game.

Once you get around the big characters from the main Nintendo series, no character really deserves to be in Smash. They are selected based on Sakurai, his team, and whatever Nintendo (and the additional consulting for certain series) wants and needs. Really, Smash would be better game if we had a smaller group of characters (maybe around 25) that Sakurai and his team could balance better, but literally everyone would hate it.
