I wouldn't call Villager and Rosalina the biggest reveals for Smash 4. Little Mac and Pac-Man were as big if not bigger than those. And Brawl waited a while to announce Dedede and Sonic.

Smash U/3DS: Villager, Mega Man, Rosalina, Pac-Man and Cloud

Smash Switch: Inkling is on top right now. The only character that could top it is the Minecraft guy, but that will not happen.

Sonic was an exception, he wasn't even planned to be in the game when they showed the first trailer, he was only added sometime in 2007. You also have to take into consideration that Smash 4 had much longer to reveal its characters, two E3s, a Smash Direct and a ton of Nintendo Directs over the course of 1 and a half year, this game will at best have half as many opportunities to reveal newcomers.

So I had a dumb idea for a Mario Odyssey 2/DLC; Crossover Kingdoms, one being a Zebes Kingdom.

In it, you can Capture Metroids and fly around, find Power Moons in the form of powerups in the hands of Chozo statues, Ridley as standin for a Tyrannosaurus Rex, and Mother Brain as a boss that you can fight as either a Metroid, Ridley, some other Zebes enemy, or as Mario.

Costumes you can purchase in Zebes include Zero Suit Mario, a Metroid hat, and the Varia Suit.

People wanted Inkling as Smash U/3DS DLC if you remember. And given Nintendo's glut of 3DS ports, it could've been a Splatoon 1 3DS port. But no, it was Smash. But I suppose you have a point. No one really seems to give a damn about the Inklings being in Smash despite everyone wanting them :s

Yeah, I think the way they framed how Smash was the hype part of the trailer tells us that they didn't think that the Inklings are the ones who are going to get everyone incredibly hyped. It's not that the Inklings aren't popular, it's just that they're never really going to draw a huge reaction from people seeing as how expected they were, and it does seem like they were right as so few are actually talking about their inclusion now that they have been confirmed.

Sakurai more than anyone knows that surprises are what get people excited, it's one of the reasons he's relied on the element of surprise so many times in the past (well, that and he's a goofball). He's an expert in drawing the reactions that he wants to, and with his attention to detail and obsession with controlling his environment I think he plans these things far in advance, even the daily updates that we've gotten in the past.

Well, first I'll have half a heart attack over the fact that Ridley finally made it, then I'll play through every Metroid game that I own, fight Ridley in Brawl and then play few rounds of the Pyrosphere stage in Smash Wii U. And maybe make some sort of drawing to celebrate Ridley's playable appearance.

That is the best part about Ridley, while he has a lot of detractors, once they see the light, which will hopefully be his reveal, they are not even going to be mad.

I never played a single Metroid game before, so i'm playing the games in this order:
Metroid -> Metroid 2 (actually, Samus returns, but whatever) -> Super Metroid -> Metroid Fusion.
And then the Prime series. and then Zero Mission.

The only Metroid game I've played so far was Zero Mission.
I want to play the others, but I have a big (lel) backlog and not much free time, and I also want to play them in chronological order (Though I think I'll skip Prime Hunters, Other M and Fed Force, as well as the original Metroid 1 and 2).

In here I draw Ridley the most (since he's the easiest), in DA I do more of the other two.

Ridley sure has a lot of potential palette swaps that can reference his various appearances, and I don't know if you can fit all of them in 8 palette swaps.
Do you think he should get the Little Mac treatment and get 16 alternate colors?

I'd like that, but (and this might be heresy) I'm not sure Ridley's special enough to justify 16 colors.
I'd love to see Golden Ridley though.
