I just found this video montage, I find it really good to get hyped about Little Mac's inclusion, and solidify his deserved spot on Smash Bros. It's really well made and shows the personality for the fighters.

Of course don't watch this if you haven't played Punch-Out!! Wii and you are planning to! It doesn't really matter, but if you're sensitive to that kinda thing...

Simply beautiful, thanks for the vid!

Can't believe I've been missing so many ways to defeat so many of those guys, lol. (Didn't even know you could knock King Hippo against the ropes).

Had a lot of fun watching this again. Without a doubt, Punch Out is my favorite Wii game right after Brawl. (Or more like, Brawl is my favorite multiplayer game, and Punch Out is my favorite single player game, in the last few years).

I'm still holding my breath for a Super-Punch-Out!!! remake. Needs more Hoy Quarlow kung fu fighting stick.
Super Punch Out is my favourite game in the series.
It's so gimmicky, charming, and has such a fluid gameplay.

The only thing I don't like about it, is that it is so damn easy.

I just hope we dont have to wait too long for the next punch out, im hoping thats the recent project we heard about that next level games is working on after luigi's mansion dark moon. Id like to see some returning super punch out characters, along with a mix of new guys too. And the occasional old fighter being a secret fight (say king hippo is among the crowd or with the commentators and hes agitated enough to get in the ring once more).

Really nice montage video up there too

Super Punch Out is my 2nd favorite in the series, and a very respectable entry. The fact that you have to block attacks both to the head and the body, make it a tad more hardcore than the Wii Punch Out.

I wonder.. if they ever make it. Will they use Little Mac as main character? (Although according to the Wii game's story
he retired at the end)

Or would they use the Snes version of Little Mac (that according to Nintendo, they both are one and the same, except Snes version is Little Mac with a different hairdo). ((I personally prefer the current version))

I remember that at the end of the Wii game I crossed my fingers so that the secret opponent would be his Snes version. XD
But
Donkey Kong
was great either way.

Sorry dude, but we already rated' Lil Mac's chance in the Rate their chances :)
eh, whatever. I really don't know how that thing works, so I don't check it very often. only if it's a character I REALLY like and I actually notice it's there.

Hmm.. I think we've covered right about everything. And since Little Mac apparently is extremely likely (or pseudo-confirmed) there's just not a lot to talk about until his reveal.

I really really hope too much confidence won't bite us in the rear later. XD

If there were a Punch Out boss, who could the perfect candidate be?

King Hippo:
He'd have a lot of HP to deplete. As it's no stranger to bosses, you probably won't be able to budge him either.
He'll just punch around and ocassionally try to clap you.
Then when his HP is low, he could go "Title Defense" mode where you won't be able to damage him from the front due to his manhole lid. He will learn a new move, the slap+Crush.

Mr.Sandman:
A bit more of a generic boss, but Mr.Sandman could actually put you to sleep with downward punch, and knock your lights out with his Dreamland Express uppercuts.

Bald Bull:
The 2nd most iconic opponent in the franchise, but one that has appeared in practically every game, and even had a spinoff for himself. Bald Bull would attack with his twirly jabs, his devastating hooks, and his signature Bull Rush attack.

Then... Assist Trophies: Should there be one?

Aran Ryan:
I would love to see this crazy guy be all hyper on everyone, to the point it makes players want to stay away from him. He'll run around, stalking the players, offering a handshake, if player hits him while he's holding out his hand, he'll counterattack with a horseshoe.
He'll also whip out his horseshoe in a rope, striking at players from a distance.
And finally, when he leaves, he pulls a Nintendog (from Brawl) and starts making fun of the audience, and threatening them while blocking the screen.

Super Macho Man:
He'll appear on the stage, and will flex his arms and legs while doing poses. The whole stage will go black as a single spotlight will be focusing on him. There will be distracting camera flashes (will have to be toned down to not induce seizures). And if the player tries to get inside the spotlight while Super Macho Man is posing, he'll get mad and perform his signature Spinning Punch which does HEAVY knockback.

I actually really like this idea. Glass Joe could be fun, too, essentially taking Starfy's place as the "wimpy" Assist Trophy, while he gets something cooler (or becomes playable :awesome: ). I think that'd be fitting for Joe.

I think the Puch-Out Boss character should be Bald Bull.

For an Assist Trophy, I would make it King Hippo.
King Hippo appears and starts attacking whoever is to the right of him. But before his first attack, you can attack him in the mouth for a second. If you hit it successfulling, his weak point would be revealed and he will be stunned for a bit. Players can attack the X on his stomach. If they do enough damage, they can knock him out and he disappears. If for some reason you arent able to stop him, he attacks like normal, attacking all in front of him. The player who summons is of course immune to his attacks, so they can try to stop the other players from attacking King Hippo.

Just a bump.

One of the reasons why I like Little Mac so much for a SSB candidate is that... as opposed to most of the rest of the Nintendo cast, Little Mac doesn't get strong through power ups (Mario) weapon upgrades (Samus) or special equipment (Link) to beat baddies so much bigger than him.

He actually trains his head off, and it ultimately works out for him in the end. You could say Little Mac represents hard work, out of all virtues. :)

Hard work, determination and heart sums up Little Mac. Mac's plucky never-say-die attitude probably makes him one of the most likable characters in Nintendo history.

Punch Out Wii's Mr. Sandman pre-fight scene where Doc Louis groans nervously at the sight of Little Mac's colossal opponent, yet Mac himself isn't the slightest bit effected, standing there unblinking, looking as confident and determined as ever - this scene says all you need to know about the character.

Yeah, for a relatively "average Joe" character, Little Mac really has some of the most personality of all of Nintendo's main characters. It's refreshing to see that in a silent protagonist.

Imagine if future installments of Punch Out!! expanded to include fighters from all fighting disciplines, as in MMA. The story could go: Little Mac, wanting a new challenge, takes on a new teacher (Doc Louis remains involved as his manager), reinvents himself as a kickboxer, and sets out to claim the WVFA (World Video Fighting Association) title. Standing in his way are ninjas, sumo wrestlers, kung fu masters, boxers, muay thai experts -- basically any kind of hand-to-hand specialist you can think of. He keeps his old moves and gains many more. The pattern and reflex gameplay stays, but becomes more complex since there are more options to consider. I just think the classic gameplay, while great, has to evolve eventually. And maybe such changes could lure Japanese into actually buying it. What do you guys think. I honestly feel like Little Mac, if properly marketed, can be Nintendo's answer to Ryu, only with way more charm. Other idea: Replace training cutscenes with training minigames or 3D platforming missions of some kind. Little Mac beating up goofy looking thugs on the subway would be pretty cool.

If Nintendo made an MMA game like that they should just make it a spin-off of Punch-Out and not include Little Mac. He should forever be a boxer.

To be honest, I always thought that's exactly what Super Punch Out was. XD Given the fact that you fight a Bruce Lee-like guy, an old Kung Fu master, a Mexican Wrestler, a Kabuki actor, and ... a clown, lol.

But yeah, I always thought it could be the next step for Little Mac... AS LONG as he remains a boxer, that is, and as long as they keep the lighthearted fun. :)

Oh, no doubt he would still definitely be a boxer. That doesn't have to change, even if he learns some new skills to keep up with the times. I agree, the comical fun should never go away.

Did you know? Bald Bull is the only Punch Out character with a dirty mouth because he says the Turkish equivalent of "damn" when he's angry in Punch Out Wii.

Rethought Little Mac Special moveset:
Neutral: KO Punch: Little Mac does a punch to around the stomache area (of a fullsize fighter like Captain Falcon) that can be charged. If he misses the opponent, his arm will be hanging out there for a while, leaving him vulnerable. A fully charged punch has complete knock out ability, but the amount of charged gets lowered with the amount of stars he has. A three starred Little Mac can get a knock out with a half charged punch.
Side: Raging Mac: Mac will dash forward while in a lower stance and hits low with a downward punch. No knockout power, but has meteor smash qualities
Up Special: Star Uppercut: Little Mac will hit an upper cut with his right hand. It will be higher depending on how many stars he has.
Down: Dodge Punch: Little Mac will dodge a move, and accumulate one star for every successful counter. It has no Knockback and does about 7% of damage each time.

The star system: Little Mac can gain a star for every successful dodge punch. The amount of stars he has will appear above his head with every time he uses a successful dodge punch. He can have a maximum of three stars. When every he gets a star, it increases the amount of damage he does with his neutral, side, and up specials by 3% with every star. It will increase the KO Punch's knockback, the speed of Raging Mac, and the height of Star Uppercut as well. Whenever he gets hit, Little Mac loses all his stars. So the Star Uppercut has the same recovery ability unless you commit suicide with stars. But he can do a dodge punch in the air, get a star, and then use it with Star Uppercut recovery. But he's the opposite of Lucario in that he benefits players who never get hit.

I think something along the line of Hotfeet's (aka FeliciaFan) moveset with the star system should be the perfect moveset for Mac.

"We'll see who packs more punch in SSB4, Ganondorf! I'm gonna get my title back, and then you're going down!"

As a side note, I'm studying for a tough Psychology exam that may decide the fate of my college career (which I'm right at the end of) and I really wish Mac would get announced tomorrow morning so I'd have something to motivate me more.

Here's to hope!

On the star system. I checked out Hotfeet's video and I don't think it should be too easy to get stars. That's why I restricted getting stars only for one move. I also wanted into reflect in game mechanics so I want him to lose all his stars when he gets hit. So the best players benefit from the star system the most.

I think Little Mac should lose his stars like Kirby loses his copy abilities, that would be more balanced in my opinion. Imagine having 3 stars and then get hit by a stray projectile and lose it all, that wouldn't be fun.
