List of Notable Players at Respective Characters

Are you seriously saying that Mango isn't one of the best Melee Falco players in the world? Or that Armada isn't one of the best Melee Young Link players in the world? Just because it's not their main doesn't mean they aren't really good with that character.

PPMD's Falco is the best Falco. Period. And reread my post, what I'm "seriously saying" is not "X isn't one of the best", it's "X isn't THE best". I'm also not saying that Nairo isn't "really good" with anyone, nice ****ing straw-man.

And Armada is the only player who uses Young Link effectively... against Hungrybox's Jigglypuff (though he doesn't use Young Link anymore now that he can beat Hungrybox with Fox). That and Ness (and Hungrybox's pocket Fox) are the only characters he's fought using Young Link. But no one else uses Young Link besides Laijin (who I believe uses Sheik now?) so Armada takes the title by default, until an actual Young Link main shows up that's competent in every MU.

Not a Japan bias, rather a "solo main" bias lol. And no they haven't (regarding Earth fighting Nietono), also it's difficult to keep up with Japanese tournaments outside of what SHI-G uploads. There's loads of content involving you using this or that character and one (that speaks English) can easily look up your records since the bracket/standings/whatever will likely be in English. If I spoke Japanese I could give you more than those videos. But when you look at them, do you say to yourself "yep, I'm better than him, anyone who disagrees uses awful logic lol lmao lol"?

As for a Dark Pit player getting top 8 or something, if they went solo then yeah because there's a higher chance that they experienced a more diverse cast of characters. If you do "I switch to X when fighting Y" or even "I switch to X because I feel like it" then I'm not going to consider you the best with X. A solid grasp fundamentals? Certainly, but the best with a character? Are you confident enough in any of your characters to take on the whole cast?

Keep in mind that I'm not contesting your notability with anyone. I admit you're "notable" with everyone you use. As far as "best" goes though? I have reservations handing out that title, and so should other players.

On backing up my statement, I already told you I can't speak Japanese. That's a limitation on my part, but those videos I posted (it doesn't matter that they're "old"; again, consider that Earth may attend tournaments not being streamed by SHI; additionally the ones where he fights 9B and Shogun are from less than a month ago) are the best I can do to prove Earth's skill with Pit at the moment.

Anyways, this is why it's usually bad to make these kinda threads either way. Cause it gets 10+ people trying to get on the list and the updates OP's of these kinda threads usually just go along with it since they don't do research themselves or even ask if what they're saying about other players is true.

A new thread is going to be made/trialled.

As I said before, using the notion of six-degrees of separation.
People in the top 60 rankings are automatically first degree. They may not be listed under any character though.
Justifying other people will be based around degrees of separation from results. I would say it would be hard to justify any 5th degree "players" (but who knows).
Degrees of separation don't get reshuffled if someone moves up/down in the world (i.e. guy drops out of top 60, people justified as second degrees aren't suddenly discarded).

By a set base point and a gamey means of applying it, hopefully it'll maintain itself.
A lot of magic numbers have to be considered, like how long is a result relevant. How often it gets updated. Yada yada.

e.g.
Oh look, Rain isn't in the list!
Rain is the highest ranked player in a region which Nietono, Abadango and Choco (assume 2nd degree) are frequently in tournament. He has x/y/z wins, here's some bracket links.
Alright, Rain's a solid 2nd degree. Non-NA regions will be allowed to have "extra" representatives while for the most part we want to keep it to around five per character I'd say.

Gnes is definitely a notable shulk player.

I don't think someone that uses a character as a main have any bigger importance.
It's true Nairo uses ZSS and Pit only for a few MU's.
But he is playing ZSS and Pit good enough, and better than most (I believe better than all) ZSS and Pit players, so what ?
Choco's ZSS is truly incredible but I don't get the point in Nairo don't be listed as best Pit player just because "he don't main him".
Again, I personally believe that he is better with him than any other Pit main.

M2K is the best player with many characters in both P:M and Melee, a lot of them he don't even usually plays.
I think it's unfair to prioritize players just because they "main" a character.

The whole point of threads like these is so that people can look at the highest level of play with whatever character they're interested in. We shouldn't be denying people easy-access footage of the highest level of play just because the player doesn't technically main the character.
