Whenever my brother or I have a bad day we'll text each other to grit those teeth then quote that whole section from the anime. If the absurd epicness that is Gurren Lagann doesn't get your spirits up nothing will.
I don't have it memorized but I'll always certainly recognize it, lol. Everyone knows the "WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK WE ARE" part though.

One of my favorite quotes is "Don't believe in yourself... Believe in me who believes in you!"

Such an anime line...

"Listen Simon, never forget, just believe in yourself, not in the Simon that I believe in, not in the Kamina that you believe in, have faith in the Simon that believes in you!" Said the man dying of blood loss and major organ damage (according to my brother, in the manga the panels actually show him as having no life force during that whole scene, suggesting he was already dead and running on pure willpower).

Just jump in and make some random anime quote or something and maybe a person or two will fall out of their desk chair out of fanboy orgasm.

But I don't know (or remember) any anime quotes and the only anime shows that I have watched are Pokemon, and a couple anime moives like Kiki's delivery service and aothers by the same people who did Kiki's (I always forget there names). It's a really bummer ;-;.

I wouldn't mind actually thanks :). When I get enough money, I will think about getting them cause, like I have said, I have only been able to watch anime shows that are available on free to air tv, like pokemon and Yugioh ( I remember watching the originals all the time, they were the best XD)

You know you could just stream, right? There's plenty of sites out there.

Although, I actually have been paying for Crunchyroll the past couple months. I now only torrent and stuff for series that aren't available on there.

Oh, fun story. In high school physics class we had to design and build bottle rockets to launch as a project. My friend and I decided we would make ours a drill. We pitched the idea to our teacher (the concept was to have the wings basically spiral around the bottle, so that way when it would take off, the blades would influence the wind and make it spin) and he said, "That might actually work..."

It did.

We made Kamina's glasses for it too. Before we launched it, we played the theme from a cell phone and yelled, "GIGA... DRILL... BREAK-AH!"

It was glorious.

My physics teacher signed my yearbook with "pierce the heavens".

Welcome to the internet.

KissAnime is godlike. Pretty much my go to. I also like AnimeSeason.

All you really need to do is Google the name of a series and include "watch" or "torrent" and figure it out from there. That's the world we've been living in for a while now.
Also, that Rocket looks awesome XD. How far did it go? Wish I understood the reference though.
Thanks, haha. I do have a video from it on Facebook... Not sure the best way to share it, or if I want to commit that far lol.

You should watch TTGL. Ironically, that's one of the only anime I actually own.

I'll try those websites then, thanks :).

Also, if you don't want to, you don't have to share a video, it's entirely up to you. Also, I think I will have that show as first on my list.

You quit watching it????

yo

someone puts prime storytelling in your face and you just reject it

smh

:093:
Well, she didn't want to keep watching it and I don't enjoy watching stuff alone. Besides, we were at a different stage in our lives than you are so it hit us pretty damn hard, too hard. That's one of the sad things I've noticed as you grow older and experience more your ability to enjoy certain things or tropes diminishes greatly. Things become much more painful than they're intended to be and since life sucks so hard I don't want to spend my free time getting sad, depressed or feeling pain when I could be enjoying myself and relaxing. You'll get it when you're my age and in a similar situation.

Also, I don't even know which anime Gurren Laggan is.

well if you don't understand the reference you should DEFINITELY watch Gurren Lagann!!! What an amazing Anime.

Also Kill la Kill is awesome. English release just started coming out recently, though I did really enjoy the japanese cast

I definitely get more invested in narrative than I did as a child, but I also live my life for storytelling so it's really personal to me. Growing up it's a lot easier to be disconnected from it but now even basic **** can connect with me and I'm like I SHOULDN'T BE FEELING THIS WAY ALREADY.

Hm, I can understand that to a degree but I really like watching stuff by myself. It helps me become more immersed since there's no one else to distract or "ease the pain", if you will.

I'm always sad. That's my secret.

I equally enjoy things that can completely distract me from life, but I also adore series that bask in life's existential dread and remind myself of our fleeting mortality… Which is why I love Anohana and Welcome to the NHK so much.

Anohana probably was the most depressingly uplifting thing I ever watched. Best cry ever.
Also, I don't even know which anime Gurren Laggan is.
It's commonly referred to as a "manime" lol. It's admittedly not perfect, but the payoff is completely worth it. One of the most absurd and over the top series ever.

KLK is fantastic too. Same people behind it as TTGL. I think KLK had way stronger characters overall, but it didn't reach the same thematic levels as TTGL that I hoped it would… Still great though. Way more memorable and likeable characters.

They both stuck with me hard (at least a few select ones from TTGL). I can't decide which one I liked more.

My wife's favorite anime is Kill la Kill , However.
though she will be forever upset about episode 8 on TTGL

Oh, I'm not saying one is worse than the other, I just felt that the thematic structure and turn around in TTGL was the most satisfying and ridiculous. KLK's ending didn't go as big for me, but was still impactful because I cared way more for all the characters and what happened to them. Only the main cast of TTGL stands out, whereas I remember like almost every name of every character in KLK, haha.

@ Camalange Camalange So you're like an emo Bruce Banner then?

Well, everybody deals with life in their own way I guess. I have always disliked things that get me anxious or nervous, so I can't watch thrillers or horror movies because I get too anxious. I can't enjoy them and I feel physically uncomfortable to the point that I need to get up and walk around. It's not only anxious, I get angry, extremely angry. They just push all the wrong buttons in my head.

For instance, Grave of the Fireflies remains one of the worst things I've watched in that sense. I couldn't sleep for a couple of days afterwards because I was so filled with hatred towards their aunt and just society as a whole. That's not fun, and it actually diminishes my quality of life. I'd much rather be involved in a narrative that has some form of payoff, even if it's quite shallow and a tease. Video games offer that. At the end, I get to have vengeance and bash in the skull of the person who wronged me. This is one reason why I love DAO so much. You get wronged at the beginning but later you can exact vengeance. Anime offers that but only to some point.

It's like I usually say "If I want to watch/play something that's similar to life, I'll just cut the middle man and go live": Similarly, if I want to get sad I'll just go check out real life. Nothing in fiction can be as sad as that crap.

I don't like horror simply because I don't like watching fellow humans get needlessly slaughtered? I mean that mostly in regard to gore porn flicks… Not saying all horror is like that, but I feel like the best horrors are more on the thriller side because it has a stronger sense of suspense, motivation, etc.

Hm, that's a shame though. I don't really get anxiety from movies. Games probably would moreso since I'm the one that actually has to act on things, lmao. Interesting.

For me, it's more of an enjoyment of seeing things play out. I can definitely dislike characters based on principle alone, but I'm fascinated by their motivations, perspective, etc. Like, I can hate characters as a person, but I can love them as characters. It's just satisfying for me to see things come full circle or for characters to have a strong arc.
It's like I usually say "If I want to watch/play something that's similar to life, I'll just cut the middle man and go live": Similarly, if I want to get sad I'll just go check out real life. Nothing in fiction can be as sad as that crap.
Yeah, but narrative is similar to life while also going beyond it. In real life, things don't just wrap up in satisfying, clear ways. In life, we just keep living and coping until we die. In stories, we get a clear beginning, middle, and end that we can just feel content with (or hate) and wrap it up with a little bow and store it in the memory box.

I think another thing about growing up is that there's no time to be sad, lol. You have to just keep being responsible and do what you need to do. Stories can be a way to relate to them on that personal level and be brought to tears from otherwise situations that you've just been bottling up.

I keep using cry as an example but I don't actually cry much from entertainment haha I'm a very internal person, but I guess in that sense there's a sort of vicariousness to watching narrative. I'm the kind of person who bottles things up until one day, I'll eventually die.

@ Camalange Camalange I love characters to have an arc. Heck, I have almost rage quit reading A Song of Ice and Fire so many times now but I continue because the narrative is good. I can't explain it really, but I just can't deal with somethings since they overwhelm me emotionally. It's completely bizarre and paradoxical since I can't watch torture porn movies like Saw for instance, but real life gore has no effect on me. I think it has to do because I tend to try and relate myself too much with the person I'm watching. To give a clear example using FMA, that doctor did something to his kid, and I just pictured myself being that detached or even that happening to my son and it just overwhelmed me. I felt pure hatred for that guy. We actually kept watching until he shows up as a chimera himself, and upon seeing him acting so nonchalantly and Alphonse and Edward act as if nothing and not just rage murder him right there, I couldn't take it. In my mind, evil MUST pay, and since that doesn't happen in real life, or at least not as much or often as I'd like, I seek for that in my media. If I can't find it I feel cheated and get angry.

Anyways, be it as it may, I don't enjoy it, and why would I purposefully put myself through something I don't enjoy? As I said, if I want Drama I'll turn on the news or turn to real life.

I'm reading through a song of ice and fire currently and boy do I understand what you're talking about. The character development is insanely good, but holy **** do I hate the author. He's such a **** sometimes XD. The amount of times I've just thrown the book down, ... only to pick it back up again.

Also, **** that doctor guy on FMA. Dammit Elessar, you're getting me all worked up.

See, I'm not the only one; Fox gets it.

I try to not think too much or else I'll get all worked up again like with that Law & Order episode and I can't just go out and walk it off now.

So what are y'all top 3 most reliable kill moves (not including gimps/stage spikes)? For me, probably jab to downsmash, ftilt, then upthrow.

You can't watch Clannad: After Story without watching Clannad!!!!!

x30
True, even though you do need to watch the original to even catch a glimpse of what's going on in After Story, it's still like 30x better than the original.

Jab cancel to Upsmash on big bodied characters, Uptilt if someone gets behind me or in my grill but not fast enough to cover my options on reaction, or Dsmash on read, punishing rolls or shield-stabbing.

EDIT: Darn it, I double-posted. Any way to merge my two posts?

UTilt, Fsmash, Dsmash. The nice thing about Link is he's versatile. Offstage he has a good gimping game with projectiles, Fair, Nair, Dair. Ftilt, Fair and spin attack can lead to situational KOs or gimp setups. Uair+ bombs is decent for killing after a juggle. And Uthrow kills later on too.
I noticed Link's Fthrow/Bthrow have better power than brawl and can kill at high %s if Link is near the side of a stage.

Yeah, Link's varying tools to KO are kinda making me want to main him now, or at least be one of my top 3 characters. I like the idea of being able to let the situation present itself and hit the opponent with whatever move is best-suited for that position rather than having to set up for it like most other characters, meaning I don't ever feel the need to fish for a KO (like Sheik).
