I can't wall her out or start anything. Ever. I get CC'd and nothing converts. He just weaves through my projectiles. Literally everything feels ineffectual and pointless. Nihilismfvfghjk

I mean like, I can play against Umbreon's other characters. I can go head to head. Not really win, but I can make it feel like an actual game. Sheik is different. He just makes it so there's no hope. It might be because he says he only actually plays Sheik and Marth. But still.

Edit: I guess I could have covered that. I don't know. Lol. I mean like. Uh. I can't explain why I don't think it was necessary. The words are there but.

Then again I did add bomb sliding for no real reason xD That thing is useless now.
Mea culpa.

Mario is probably your best bet. His speed and attack power have been juiced from melee, his approach game is MUCH safer being able to short hop fireball rush with no landing lag , his forward air has two killing angles (both the Mario spike and the doc kill angle) and his edgeguard game is still quite potent with the cape. He can chain throw falco extremely well (start with up throws, then into down throws) ...overall Mario is just that much more menacing, plus he's particularly easy to use, too.

EDIT: I'm a spacies main on melee, and still use them frequently in PM. If you can, I'd recommend picking up falco as a secondary, but it takes quite a bit of skill and dedication to get good with him.
Alright I'll keep that all in mind. Time to get more used to facing Falcos!

Also I do use Falco occasionally and can do the short hop laser at least but I only seriously used him a lot in Brawl

I would suggest not using him then. PM Falco has properties that are almost identical to his melee counterpart, so it will take a good chunk of time to break any bad habits you've developed using Brawl Falco, unless you're willing to try it out still.

I may mess around with him a bit in PM. It may just take some serious adjustment, I only really messed with Fox in 64 and Falco in Brawl and used both casually in Melee.

Out of the spacies I tend to do best with Wolf in PM lol.

Oh going back to the topic of Link, what would you say is the safest kill he has? I've found it to be dthrow UpB in both Melee and PM.

But missing that grab hurts espcially in Melee, I know his Dair is amazing when it connects but, is there any super safe kill option i'm missing?

Well your Fair's first swing is a reliable kill move. Up b is a potent edgeguarder, and Uair can kill at high percents. Dair is your hardest punching finisher move though, but always keep other options in mind in case it isn't safe to use. Some opponents will expect a Dair finisher from a grapple, but if you can read their DI it can be used reliably.

Yeah I love the semi spike so much, also thanks alot for all this helpful advice, it'll certainly help when I throw myself into the Apex fires haha

Dash cancel reverse fsmash to punish whiffs is a nice kill. But overall the Empty Combo (I'm not dropping this lol) is his best kill setup IMO. Especially if you're good at landing grabs.

Sorry to sound a little dumb, I'm newer to these more advanced techs, but how does one dash cancel?

Out of your run animation (after the initial dash) you just crouch and then you can do anything out of it.

Don't worry about it and never be reluctant to question. You can't know information you've never been presented with and if you miss the opportunity to ask then it's your fault. No one will think you're dumb lol.

I just want to say thank you for posting this video. It's what I needed to bring my game to the next level and I can't wait to start learning all of these awesome techniques. :)

That's boring. And I've never heard that name before.

Titles are mere constructs anyway. People can call it whatever they want, but I'll go with this name since it's catchy and funny. The concrete thing that is the move itself will remain the same under any title so it means nothing anyway.

Call it boring, it is what it is. And you can lay off the hostility pal, everyone has an opinion, and yours doesn't weigh more than anyone else. Please keep the conversation civil.

I wasn't really being directly hostile. At least not intentionally. <_> Just speaking too direct and emphatic I guess. Mea culpa. Again. Whatever.

Glad I could serve the link community in some way rather than simply being an annoying bystander that argues and pisses people off. You're welcome.

Will the Empty Combo/pogostab/dthrow dair/Ending Blow/Helm Splitter be in the final exam? I wasn't paying attention.

I'm gonna call it Boom Goes the Dairnymite. He looks like he's manning a plunger and you launch them into the sky being the only reason.

God I hope not. What if I position myself incorrectly and stab my foot?

Bad times.
Then the spirit asks you to do it again :p

Also! Could someone inform me if DACUS is still possible in PM? I actually haven't tried it yet but I've also semi forgotten how it is triggered

Thanks. I feel kinda silly asking all these.. What I feel to be obvious questions.
Nah, it's cool dude. Everyone is here to help each other learn and improve. DACUS is a tricky skill starting off but once you get the timing down it's pretty simple once you know the timing. Plus it's pretty flashy and can be useful as a follow up for a combo.

Yeah I remember seeing Snakes do it in Brawl. Crazy stuff, can anyone who couldn't DACUS before do it in PM? And what about Mewtwo or Roy?

Some characters are harder to perform this technique than others. I haven't explored using DACUS outside of link or falco. I know snake can do it but I don't like playing him, he just doesn't seem fun. I do believe Roy can do it rather easily, but I'm not so sure about mewtwo.

Yeah never really used Snake myself, my Dad had a blast with him though when I used to Brawl with him, an uncle and a cousin

Ike, Lucas, Snake, Link, Roy, G&W, Wario, Jiggz, Ivy, Falco, Wolf all have a usable DACUS. There might be others.

Yes, he does. And without the 10 frame startup of QD.
Huh.. Good to know, sorry I keep diverting from Link in this topic ^^;

So how often should I be using bombs? I find myself using my Boomerang and Spin the most of my specials which is probably not exactly the right thing.

Seemed on-topic to me. We were discussing DACUS lol.

Imo you should use bombs very frequently. Having one in hand expands your mid-long range options by a good amount.

In your opinion guys, which techs are absolutely necessary to be a proficient LinK? Or are techs even necessary at all?

I ask because I REALLY suck at techs, I have L-canceling down and simple ones like arrow canceling, pivot grabbing, bomb zair drop etc. But i can't even figure out wave dashing. & things like the Hylian bomb? ….forget it. :p

But I wonder if they're really that necessary because after watching EmptySkies video I began analyzing a lot of Nick Riddle's games since he's one of the best Link's I've ever seen. He uses a few but it seems the only thing that's really needed is being really smart with your projectiles and grab game.

Well, I've just started working on these things, got the "Empty Combo" down and the simple stuff. I am having an issue with the Bomb Plant and Bomb Punt techniques because everytime I drop the bomb close to the ground it explodes in my face. Any tips?
