All very agreeable points, I just happen to be a hopeless optimist when it comes to nintendo.
Voice isn't a do or die thing for me really, I'd more or less like Link to have more expression in general. I don't mind him being silent, but I do tire slightly of him just being "me" in a game. Link having more depth as a character would do well for the series' story aspect of making him more involved than just showing up in Green clothes and doing things that old people said he would before he was born.

I sincerely believe nintendo had very little to do with both the CD-I Link and cartoon Link as nintendo tends to make Link a rather serious young chap. I agree wholeheartedly, they couldn't screw it up that bad.

Ah Noboyuki Hiyama, where hath thou gone, whether it be Siegfried in soul calibur or Batsu in Rival schools, he hasn't returned since melee...
and I'm more or less referring to the implicit details of Mario and Luigi, rather than the explicit ones. It's the inner charm and charisma of Mario that makes him stand out, and it's Luigi's relatable introvertion that makes him so likable.

Without a doubt, there are a million and a half ways to write a determined young man character without him being Naruto lol, but I get your point. "Possibility is endless until you stop trying"
I more or less just want Nintendo to make a more earnest attempt at an arching story with detail and intrigue.
and on that note, I'd love to see Link be a little bit more flashy (hence hyrule warriors yada yada) as a swordsman and his large repertoire of talents.
