There's usually not an advantage, except in the rare case of limited press edition releases where the limited press is actually very limited like it was for Mr. Taxi. I think it was out of print within like a week of release and the normal editions didn't come with the photo card.

I usually preorder my stuff anyways since it seems to ship out a day or two before the release date.
