This thread is to help lead discussion of tournament results for the Kirby community.
Feel free to post the results of any tournament you've attended where you've played games as Kirby.
You may also post your thoughts on the results of a game/set/tournament of any Kirby player.​

I figure now that the Wii U version of SSB4 has launched there will be many more tournaments and all sorts of Kirby players having fun and taking top spots. To go along with this phenomenon I am creating this thread for Kirby players to have a place to write up tournament information to share with others.

Loser's Finals loss against Sonic 0-3 (also I used Fox first game for the heck of it)
The Sonic placed 2nd and the 1st place was the Doc/Pac.

Stages played on were mostly FD/BF/Smashville. I also went on Town & City and Kongo Jungle which seem like great stages for Kirby.
Do NOT take Sonic to Halberd. Upthrow->Upair kills at practically any percent there.

I placed 9th out of 48

1st round against Wario. Win 2-0
2nd round against Greninja/Bowser Win 2-0
3rd round against Sheik/Ganondorf Win 2-0
4th round against Sonic Lost 0-2
5th round against Sheik Lost 1-2

The tournament was standard ruleset, matches are best 2 out of 3, 3 stock 8 minutes, with FD/Battlefield/Smashville as starters. I'm pretty salty still from the tournament, I should've won against that sheik but I choked pretty hard. I brought him to 90% while I was 10% last stock and still lost. I feel like I could've gotten Kirby to top 8 at least but I failed at that. Sorry guys

oh yeah I did pretty poorly at the tournament I went to this weekend. Lost set 1 against Dedede, won set 2 against Lucina/Shulk, won 3 against Yoshi/Rosalina, won 4 against Mega Man, lost 5 against Diddy Kong.

Nope. Maybe if I hadn't lost my FIRST GAME I would have gotten a chance, but RIP.
I managed to record my set against Megaman, but I don't think it's worth uploading, it's basically the same thing as the 3ds set I already have up. And I tried to save the replays against Diddy Kong, but both times he freaking pressed Start and that makes it skip the victory screen for both of us for SOME reason v_v

I usually go to a weekly (sort of) tournament for Smash WiiU and always play Kirby, but I'll just put my most successful one here as I was on point with Kirby that day.

How many rounds/sets you played as Kirby and against which character(s): I went with Kirby for all of them. I played against Luigi, Sheik, Jigglypuff, R.O.B., and Zero Suit Samus (did not play against his Diddy).
Stages played on: Battlefield, Smashville, Town and City, Castle Siege, Great Cave Offensive (Gentleman's Agreement during the first set, I'm a sucker for that stage, still won though)
Any other relevant comments relating to the tournament: Delfino Plaza is Kirby's best stage, at least for me - sharking is easy and if you play it safe, it's hard to counter. Kirby's grabs are terrific and can build damage easily. Stone as an edgeguard is not a bad option. Going for risky Hammer Flip's to be flashy is fun. At around ~80%, if Luigi down throws Kirby, he can get an almost guaranteed combo into Luigi Cyclone and K.O. Kirby off the top.

This thread is a worthy 16 day bump, we need this tourney data.

Anyways, just played a weekly tourney with a skype group I just joined, 3rd out of 16.

• Won first match by default.
• Lost to a laggy, campy Rosalina player 1-2.
• Won by default again (lol)
• Won against a Lucina 2-0.
• Lost a game against Falcon, but then realized crouching is a thing and beat him, then beat his Little Mac. 2-1.
• I won against the Rosalina player, wrecked her first match, she picked Delfino (small roof, easy up-smash/u-air kills) and barely won that game. She banned the 3 stages I like most, and had to basically choose between Lylat and Battlefield, and she LOVED battlefield. I picked Lylat to mess with her recovery and it worked. I won 2-1.
• In Loser's Finals I lost 1-2 to a good Sheik player. It was all mindgames and reads. In the last game, he read my DI patterns and killed me both times with down throw to vanish, and 2 stocked me.

TL:DR: Made my way through Losers to Loser's finals.

This is the best I have ever done in a tournament in my life, and I even got better than my friend (Xyro, he lost in Loser's quarters) and I now have bragging rights because he was very sure he was gonna do better than me.

I'm "hem" in that forum
I placed 3rd out of 18.

I won against ZSS 2-0, he was very predictable and without good strategies. (I won without losing any stocks).
I won against an average-to-good Ike, 2-0, it was hard but I did it.
I lost 2-0 against Wario. He was very technical and better than me. He also won the tournament so I think he was very good.
Final for the third place, I won 3-1 against a Duck Hunt that was as good as me... very balanced battles.

I agree with the Sonic to Halberd statement. Upthrow up air killed me at around 30%, and upsmash killed me at 68%.
I find it hard fighting sonic. I try to shield most of the time when he down/side B's but it's hard for me to play patient and to punish him.

Any other relevant comments relating to the tournament: It was fun. Diddy on Halberd is very good, and so is Kirby on Delfino. Character variety in this game is fun.

I don't have much info, but there's a Game Underground Weekly every Tuesday, and I was there last week (going again in an hour lol). Used Kirby for every match, note customs were ON, I used either 3231 or 3131.

Round 1: Bopped Falcon 2-0
Round 2: Bopped (?) 2-0
Round 3: Got b0died by Ness 0-2
Round 4: Beat Villager 2-1 (by timeout in the last game)
Round 5: #rekt by Sonic 0-2

Overall: 7th out of like 25-30
Stages: Mostly Smashville. I think one of the Villager matches was BF and the timeout one was FD. I tried counterpicking the Sonic with Delfino but that was a mistake...he said afterwards to counterpick him with Halberd instead but according to @ Asdioh that's a mistake as well...nerf Sanic?

Sonic isn't easy but Kirby has tools to make his fight bit easier. Since it just Regular Spin Dash and Hammer Spin Dash, you stop the charge with a basic attack (Which you cannot do with Burning Spin Dash). Go to our Matchup Thread on some details about it. Also, Mikekirby has posted videos against few skilled sonic players.

This was my first tourney ever so I was nervous. I ended up losing 0-2 to a lucario player in winners. Then in losers I had to play a ZSS who had just beat my crewmate. I got bodied game one and considered switching to mega man but didn't and pulled out game 2 barely, then I had the hardest Upper Cutter read of my life game 3 and took his stock at 60% off the top. After this I beat one of the best sonic player's online and i think another. Anyway I lost to a Charizard main and I blame myself because I choked after 2 stocking him.

I'll be part of Reveival of 3DS which is coming up and is suppose to have 40 ~ 50 people.

R1 winners, beat Hankk 2-0 with . He used and became very angry with how Kirby crouches under almost all of her moves.
R2 winners, lost to Lewton (the overall winner) in a very close 2-1 set. He played . I started with (got 2-stocked), moved to (where I won), and then where I got hit by an unfortunate FAir with both of us over 100%.

R1 Losers, beat 1NorthRepresenting 2-1 with //. He played and I got killed game 1 at 50% by a rage FSMash. (salt)
R2 Losers, beat CrashCourse 2-0 with /. Got a sick string on his in game 2 which ended with a DAir spike.

According to some matches StaticManny put up and some insight from MikeKirby, Samus isn't exactly a character we can sleep on. Could be close to even as far as we know. She's a very mixup heavy character so it kind of really boils down moreso to the player than the MU.

That would explain a lot. Where should I take Samus on a CP, then? I tried Battlefield and it worked fairly well but I was afraid to do most stages for a variety of reasons.

BF goes either way really, since while it expands her combo potential, it messes with her zair spacing and missiles are less effective. I'd probably go with FD since you corner her much more easily (she's terrible in CQC), she has less space to run to given the lack of platforms, and you can catch her landings pretty well since her landing options are pretty bad (even with morph ball bomb mixups). Also, it having a higher ceiling than Smashville works well for you.

As for the MU, it's best to really limit her options by staying as close as possible to her. Sourspot ftilt can easily be punished, the only thing you should be looking out for up close is jab1>dtilt, retreating pivot ftilt or frame 4 dtilt (which has alot of endlag btw).

Also, getting her neutral B is a top priority. One time, I met a good Samus on For Glory (sorry but it's all I got lol) In the first too games it was hectic getting around the missiles and Z-Air as he knew how to space them well. I lost the first two games but they were close and I made some dumb moves off stage. However, in game 3 I had a different game plan. I decided to start the match with a raw Inhale and got the copy. All of a sudden, the neutral was way easier as I could just block and air dodge all his missiles while charging my own shot and blast her on a read. I won with almost no damage on my second stock. This was pre-1.10 too so now gettting the copy the begining is even easier. I wanted to play him more, but my family forced me to cut my session short. -_-

Anyway, the charge shot makes fighting her SOOO much easier as you don't have to approach as hard. You can use your floats to charge while avoiding her fire and blast her back and you don't have to put up with the Z-Air. Plus a full charged shot combos off F-Throw. Speaking of Mike Kirby, he recently had a tight set against Wes's Samus in POPnOFF 14 GF.

Went to a local tourney Smasher's Lair 10 this friday.
I got 9th out of 28 which isn't the best results I've had, but not horrendous either. I stayed Kirby during the whole tourney.

Round 1: I won 2-0 against Skellethomas He's kind of a new guy who hadn't played in a tourney before.

Round 2: I lost 0-2 against Miguel He's one of the best players in my area but it was pretty even. I haven't practiced against him nearly enough but I think that I could handle him better if I just play a bit more against his R.O.B. I think we played on Wuhu Island and Battlefield or something. I struck Halberd the first thing I did because he's so scary there.

Round 3: I won 2-0 against Wario Nope, he didn't play with Wario. I could beat him without that much difficulty.

Round 4: I won 2-1 against Paprika He went Mario the first game which I could take without any major problems. I believe we played on Duck Hunt. The U-Throw kills on the tree was real haha. Second and third game he went Sheik which was a major pain to deal with. He won the second game on Castle Siege by timing me out. The match was so slow that we both had 3 stocks remaining after a full cycle of transformations. The last game I won on Lylat Cruise. It almost timed out as well, but I managed to secure a KO in the last seconds of the match (I would have won anyway if it went to time). Neither of us could approach well so it was really slow...

Round 5: I lost 0-2 against Combox I really need to read up on this matchup. Like really. I made the mistake to take him to Kongo Jungle 64 game one, not knowing that his Gordos can bounce back and forth if they hit the slanted floor there. It's so hard to get close to DDD as his hitboxes are absurd. Game two was on Duck Hunt if I'm not mistaken and it was a bit more even.



The tourney had customs on and 17 stages FLSS. I never play Kirby when customs aren't allowed as I'm not interested to play a toned down version of my main that has less interesting options. I usually place really low when I'm not using Kirby though. Unfortunately, the capture card that we were going to use didn't work, so we could neither stream nor record anything.

Protip: Utilt will send gordos back whichever way you're facing, and covers all angles on flat ground.

Alright thanks, I might try to use U-Tilt a bit more for that purpose and see how it goes. I've been using mostly N-Air and Jab against them but N-Air is a bit slow and Jab doesn't cover as many angles I guess.

So in case you all missed the news, I want to give shoutouts to @MikeKirby for placing 5th a KTAR XIV out of 176 entrants with a solo run on the pink puffball, and in the process, actually being able to take freaking Nairo to game 3!!! As if beating Larry Lurr multiple times wasn't impressive enough.

I couldn't find the match amongst the broadcasts on the Rush Hour Smash twitch channel which probably means that it wasn't streamed or the stream was down which sucks. But in any case I want to once again say congrats Mike.

You know, I don't want to be overzealous and overpraise, but as time goes on, I am increasingly starting to think that MikeKirby's situation with parallels what Ryo went through with before the big buffs. Mike Kirby pretty much has all the skill needed to play at the top level. It's just that Kirby himself is still too underpowered to do everything Mike needs him to do. But just like Ike, Kirby's crippling flaws could easily be fixed with proper buffs. It's just a matter of if they'll buff the correct things or not. And I really hope they do. I want to see Mike get properly rewarded for his dedication just like Ryo did.
