Funnily enough, my Brawl disc actually stops reading whenever Mario is chosen on the character select screen, so I've been accustomed to not playing as Mario in Brawl for months and months now. Because of that, I might consider replacing Mario on my own personal game disc for K. Rool and Ridley, but not in the game as a whole, for obvious reasons (and I think those two have high enough odds to begin with).

I feel the same way. I love Mario and he's THE Nintendo character, but if I could have my own little version with Mario replaced by K. Rool and Ridley, I wouldn't hesitate.

I'm all for bringing in new faces, so I'd be satisfied.

They would have to do something really, really, REALLY stupid to dissuade me from buying it.

Hit the nail right on the head here, in terms of what my plan is. I need some serious convincing if I'm going to lay down money for this game, a Wii U and a television, and nothing short of my personal cream of the crop will fly in that case. One of K. Rool and Ridley would be needed for me to buy the game at all, and K. Rool himself would be needed for me to enthusiastically buy it on day one (though both would be ideal). I really could not care less about the "it's still a good game," "it has good gameplay," or "you'll have fun" reasons others will use to buy it, regardless of who's in.

Smash is a good, fun game to me because it's virtually an endless sandbox I can fight through with the characters I've enjoyed since childhood, and, other than K. Rool, they're all already in at this point (Bowser and DK got me to purchase Melee, my first Smash, and Diddy and Dedede got me to purchase Brawl). If there's a handful of rad new cookie-cutter protagonists with flashy playstyles, but that I have no attachment to whatsoever? Great. I'll test them out at my cousin's house, or at Best Buy, because that's about how long I'd end up playing as them if I owned the game anyway. That doesn't make me any less of a Smash fan.

Mega Man and Villager were two of my top ten before E3. I'm satisfied that they get in... if I can get one or two more characters I want, I'd be a very happy man.

What would you think if we got a Returns or Tropical Freeze stage, would that lend help to Dixie and slightly boost down K. Rool's chances or?

I don't think a stage necessarily ups a character's chances. Brawl's DK stage was based on Jungle Beat, and Diddy wasn't in it.

This. Stages should be memorable and iconic locations, not just whatever's the most recent (though I fear the latter is what we're seeing with this new game). Ideally, I'd also like to have all three. My ideal stage lineup from the DK franchise would be:

A DKCR stage (Golden Temple or just a generic stage based on the jungle temples with all the screaming pillars and whatnot);
Gangplank Galleon (to represent the original DKC games and the series' piratey aspects);
and a construction site stage, this time only inspired by the arcade games, and not fully recreated as an unplayable mess; Alternatively, a Mario vs Donkey Kong stage.

I think the chances of a Tropical Freeze stage are low, considering how recent the game is. Additionally, the ice-themed stages seem to be reserved for Ice Climber.

Barring some blend between the two, I don't see Tropical Freeze getting the stage over Returns. I'm fully expecting it to be some form of jungle, because heaven knows nothing else stage-worthy exists in DKC titles. Though Tropical Freeze's jungles are more mangrove-styles, they're functionally identical to the traditional ones from Returns, which has the benefit of widespread exposure on two platforms to its name.

The reason I doubt a Tropical Freeze stage is because it's being released while Smash is in development. Very much comparable to Galaxy not getting a stage in Brawl and Metroid Prime 3 being all but ignored. Brawl represented what was happening on the Gamecube, SSB4 represents what was cool on the Wii.

1. If you look close enough there's a hole somewhere in this old creepy ship known as Gangplank Galleon, where an arch enemy from DK's past could pop up at any second!

2. Speculation commences on whether it was K. Rool himself that caused that hole and comes out of it to throw his crown randomly and jumps back in as a hazard, or if it was just a spot where cannonballs (from the King's DKC boss fight) had landed there too many times and/or a hole where cannonballs pop out of to hit random targets playing on the stage.

I remember that when DK's final Smash, and the jungle beat stage were revealed, the members on DKbine got worried that diddly wouldn't be playable.

Well, with Tropical Freeze being delayed December will probably have a Peach-esque reveal instead of Diddy Kong then, unless Japan gets it in December still.
