Cliche as it is, I keep throwing money at the screen, but nothing happens! Whyyyyy
This shows me how stand out KKR is from the rest of the bunch. Where most Nintendo characters are cute or in an anime styled game he looks KKR looks really creepy in his quit dark and over the top whacky appearance.

Hey, wasn't someone doing a K. Rool gif of Haters Gonna Hate? I'm really curious about how that's coming along, I can't wait to see the result!

Awesome portrayal of K. Rool, I like it very much!

I actually prefer the snowmads as well. They're very fun enemies. Fish arrows man. Great.

idk maybe its because i only played dkc 1 so far but the snowmads were far cooler (heh) then the kremlings imo.
That explains it, play DKC2-3 and DK64 some time.

I think that, unless you have prior experience with the games, K. Rool is an acquired taste. I know I was always ambivalent towards him until I went back and re-experienced the games again in greater detail, at which point I started to appreciate the subtle nuances and creative details that set K. Rool apart from any other Nintendo villain.

I'm an ardent believer in the notion that education is the best way to change minds, and there's no substitute for playing the games yourself to get a feel for why K. Rool is so popular and beloved. You don't have to like him or support him as a character, but it's still good to understand exactly why people are so very fond of him.

Hi everyone, you remember my drawing-teasers, right? c:
If not, here they are:
Well, I wasn't able to draw a lot during the past few days, but, well...
It's done!

Ladies and Gentlecrocs, I present to you; my K. Rool drawings:

(Pro Tip: Read the following text with the announcer's voice.)
From left to right, it's:
1. King K. Rool - His original King design from DKC1, with his Krown and cape! Nothings better than the original...
2. Kaptain K. Rool - The costume of K. Rool we all know and love from DKC2! I especially love his jacket!
3. Baron K. Roolenstein - His Frankenstein-look from DKC3 makes him especially scary! Take a look at the pens in his pocket!
4. King Krusha K. Rool - Belive me when I say; he still is exactly as dangerous as in the old days of DK64!
5. Lord Ferderick - Lord Frederick from DKC:TF! But something seems off... I suppose he should use more moisturizer!
(Pro Tip: You now can stop to read it with the announcer's voice.)
I realy LOVE how this turned out!
Usually, when I draw something, I make it really big at first. For example, every K. Rool was originally about 3000 pixels high, now it's about 500. I do so because I can make rather small mistakes. I don't have to be 100% accurate with the outlines and shadings. Those mistakes almost disappear when I scale down their size.

Originally, I wanted to draw more costumes, but I thought, I shouldn't do too much at once... mostly because I always want to finish my drawings as soon as possible. :upsidedown:

Fun Facts:
- When I drew the Baron, I watched (or "listened to", to be acurate) a Let's Play of DKC3.
- I thought Krusha; with just a golden belt, would look very boring, so I decided to make something on it. At first it just was a
Smash Ball, but then I thought: "I could add the blood veins of his eye, to make a K.-Rool-Smash symbol!"
- I almost forgot the white line on Krusha's pants. :awesome:
- I litterally copied the skull on Kaptain's belt to Baron's and recolored it.
- The Lord Frederick costume was my favorite, when they were without colors, but now it actually is my least favorite.
- I once said he would be more based on his original design, yet now, I'm actually not sure which one it resembles more.
- Until the very end, I wasn't sure if they would turn out well. But I have to admit, they turned out...
:dk: <(OKAY!)
The attention to detail is really quite amazing in these...I didn't even notice the little hole in K. Rool's boxing shoe until I looked at this for the third or fourth time. It makes me so sad that we won't get every single one of these if K. Rool actually made it in. I can only hope he at least gets the Kaptain costume and it's as great-looking as this one.

I was telling @Zombie Saurian a bit ago, it's really quite fortunate that so many great artists are coming out of the woodwork within the K. Rool fanbase. It wasn't really like this before release, where most artists only existed within the more "Tumblr-friendly" fanbases, ala Daisy or Chorus Kids. Now, we're seeing so many quality images of the King, from movesets, to banners/posters, to costumes, size comparisons and even a "Gators Gonna Gate" GIF. It's a really cool progression to see overall, and helps convey more excitement about the character.

My thoughts

The Kremlings are a million times better than the tikis and a thousand times better than the snowmads, imo. You can tell the tikis were just made up over night and sadly seemed like a huge waste of an enemy. The snowmads on the other hand, were a not so creative enemy when it comes to what type of animals they were, because if there is one creature that is WAY over-used in any type of media today...its the penguin..give me a break..that took no thought at all from Retro. The bosses were the only interesting part of tropical freeze to me...

The Kremlings win hands-down simply from them being around longer and the fact that there are so many different types of them. They do have originality which neither of the other enemies have...or even come close to, because when are krocodiles ever the enemy? (good job Rare) The tikis reminded me of heartless from Kingdom Hearts.... (LOVE THAT GAME btw) simply put, very bland. The snowmads just looked like a more friendly and silly enemy for a younger DK generation. The Kremlings are actually dark and kreepy and that is not what Retro was going for either, obviously.

My ratings

Kremlings - Originality = 9 Surprising. Creativity = 9 Very Interesting. (Original and unexpected as far as enemies go. Monkeys fighting krocodiles... Nobody would've ever thought of this unless they were going for a King Kong vs Godzilla type of thing, and even THEN it would still be cool as hell, but it is highly doubtful that Rare was thinking of that.)

Tikis - Originality = 2 Piss-poor. Creativity = 3 Meh.. (Things like the tikis have been done to death. DK may have represented them differently, but there is only so much you can hide behind crappy ideas. They were just spirits in physical objects....oooooo...yay)

Snowmads - Originality = 5 Average. Creativity = 4 Below average. (The snowmads for me and many others are just the normal kind of arctic animals and I cannot stress enough how NOT creative that is simply due to the fact of how few the options are...and the fact of how popular animals like penguins are already. There have been so many penguin media movies, its sickening just to name a few: March of the Penguins, Happy Feet, Madagascar, Surfs Up, Mr. Poppers Penguins, and many MANY more. It did not surprise me at all when DKC TF was announced, what the enemies would be in the game. Everyone had to think, okay its a frozen DK, which means penguins for sure and maybe walruses, polar bears, and seals. BUT SURE ENOUGH the first enemies we see in the opening cinematic are penguins....sorry Retro.. Game Over try again.)

I also think its funny that the bosses in both Returns AND Tropical Freeze resemble King K. RoOl in a way. One of Tiki Tongs eyes being bigger and more distinct. Lord Frederick fighting exactly like the King and his body type being extremely similar to K. Rool has always made me wonder... I was always curious why they revealed the boss as a silhouette rather than just showing us the *disappointment* up front. Its like they didn't use King K at all, but instead, picked out certain things from him to slap on the enemies they made. (which I appreciated, don't get me wrong, but I thought you wanted to use your own stuff Retro? Couldn't resist could you..)
Frederick.jpg
Huge opportunity missed by NOT having this guys disguise fall off or something revealing King K for a third game. We will see if Retro can bring themselves back into what made DK..Donkey Kong and that is a foe that you WANT to beat up because of how much they antagonize you. The enemies were the best part about DK and if Retro is smart they will stop trying to fix what is NOT broken. (Perfect Ex.) Playstation All-Stars failed because they wanted it to be more of its own game and not be comparible to Smash Bros...well good job Superbot Entertainment...PSA is **** compared to Smash Bros and always will be unless you be smart about your decisions. Same thing goes for Donkey Kong RETRO. Use what works better and don't always try to be kreative, because sometimes the answer is right in front of you...
Kremlings DKC 2.jpg

These are DKs TRUE enemies... I and many others will ALWAYS believe that nobody can EVER replace them.. so do the right thing Retro. Go back to one of the things that made DK a success. Imagine Nintendo getting rid of Bowser...**** whoever's idea it was to do that to Donkey Kong, who technically came before Mario's overrated ass.

Thank You.

Edit: I know I KNOW...Donkey Kong Country:Returns and Tropical Freeze sold very well and any other Donkey Kong game will ALWAYS sale very well, because its DONKEY KONG...I just want to see more creativity from Retro is all...but most importantly use the same enemies that DK started with THEN be creative...ugh..can't stress that enough.

This.

We have Space Explorers, Gods, People in Power Suits, A Demon King of Evil who runs like an old geezer, God Slayers, Princesses, Robots and Dinosaurs.
A Super Soldier, Vampire Hunter, Obese Krokodile King, Space Dragon etc. shouldn't have much trouble "fitting in".

I'm a big fan of the Donkey Kong franchise and K. Rool, along with the Kremlings, have always been a memorable component of it. He's one of my favorite Nintendo villains for his costumes, boss battles, and mixture of comedic and sinister traits. He has a lot to offer the roster with his addition to Smash, more than any other character who hasn't been added at this point.

As for when, I've been playing the games for the last 20 years.

DK64 no doubt, although I knew about the DKC and DKL games back then, DK64 was the first game in the series I ever played. I loved K. Rool's evil and funny personality in there as well as the rest of the kremlings, first time I saw the story intro I was like, wow these guys are really cool!

I admittedly never completed the DKC games as a kid. I was passively familiar with him since Mariowiki also covered K. Rool extensively, but I wasn't interested in him from a Smash standpoint. After noticing his huge popularity here, I finally decided to sit down and actually finish the games to see what the fans see in him. I certainly liked the boss battles, and could see him working in Smash.

Then I saw the DKC cartoon on Youtube. I found it absolutely hilarious, the voice-acting, the plot, the deranged animation, everything. The cartoon version of K. Rool is still my favourite version of him. :laugh:

And I must mention the music. Nothing sells me faster on a character than the music he potentially brings. Gangplank Galleon (the Brawl remix, especially) and Crocodile Cacophony are among my favourite VGMs.

And last, but not the least, the Kommunity here is a very friendly one. BKupa666's opening post is excellently written.

mario and bowser HAVE worked together before to stop a greater foe. i.e. cackelleta, count bleck/dimentio, and bowser unwillingly/unkowingly helped the mario bros fight fawful.
mario without bowser equals super mario land 1+2... though those gave us wario, who had some of bowsers (apparent) help, due to there being goombas, koopas, etc in sml2.

I joined the K Rool bandwagon when I saw that Retro themselves began acknowledging the efforts of the Kremling Kampaign to get King K Rool in Smash, which I find very admirable.

First of all, thank you very much! And yes, I always pay a lot of attention to datail in my drawings. I am very critical about my own stuff, if I don't include every detail I can find, or if I can't do a thing (almost) exactly as how I want it, I don't finish it.
That's also why it took me so long to make those K. Rools, I spent hours just to draw the Skull on Kaptains Belt, for example.
I'm glad it's so small in the final picture, because in big, it looked terrible! :laugh:
The funny thing about the boxing shoe hole is that I thought I made it too big... Apparently, I was wrong. :4dedede:

The original DKC games made me a fan of him. I pretty much liked K. Rool since the first time I battled him in the original Donkey Kong Country, and my liking him has made me want to see him as a playable character in a Smash Bros game.

I played Donkey Kong Country 2 (cause I'm a sucker for sidekicks), and I heard this when I first started up the game:
"Holy moly, this game has crocodile pirates!"

Then I reached the final boss and I see K. Rool beating the tar out of DK with his blunderbuss.

Child me: :scared: Donkey Kong, noooo!

As I grew up, I learned to appreciate K. Rool and the Kremlings as villains.

DKC was my first video game, so that certainly doesn't hurt. :p

And for me, I think he's one of the greatest video game villains (certainly above Bowser) for several reasons:

1. He actually captures his nemeses (DK being physically stronger than both Mario and Princess Peach :p ).
2. Kaptain K Rool is one of my favorite boss fights to date, and one of the most challenging I've ever played
3. He's got tons of personality . He's got his own unique identity and quirks while still capable of switching things up for each game. Hell, he was even fun (and strangely consistent) in the TV show as well.
4. He's a big fat aligator who wears a crown and rides around on a pirate ship/mobile island and commands an army of crocodile henchman who build laser death rays for kicks. Why is that so hard for people to understand?

Basically I've wanted K Rool since Melee, cuz he was my favorite character at that point in time and still ranks high on that particular list to this day.

A little off-topic, but what if all third-parties get a second rep like Ryu (Capcom)? We could see Klonoa and Tails joining the roster!

After drawing a diagram of the 3DS roster, if another side-row were added (it's currently 6x9, becoming 6x10), we could see six more characters after Roy (that is, if the roster forms a perfect rectangle). If Klonoa and Tails (or whoever the second Sega rep could be, if there even are more third-party characters) come, that leaves four slots (again, if it forms a perfect rectangle).

As for the Wii U version, there are several ways the roster can be expanded. If a new row was added on the side, that's enough room for Ryu, Roy, and two other characters. If a new row was added on the bottom, that's 13 more slots to work with. How they'll be able to expand it, I have no idea. Everything is packed enough as it is on the Wii U version. A new page could be added (though I kinda doubt they would do that), or... I really don't know.

Altogether, I'm theorizing about 8-15 DLC characters. Although, 10 seems like the place they would stop.

Confirmed:
1- Mewtwo
2- Lucas
3- Ryu
4- Roy

Possibly:
5- (Wolf or Snake?)
6- (Ballot character, hopefully King K.Rool)
7- (Ballot character)
8- (Ballot character)
9- (2nd Namco rep or other)
10- (2nd Sega rep or other)

SAKURAI, STOP DOING THIS TO YOURSELF:
11- (???)
12- (???)
13- (???)
14- (???)
15- (???)

Sorry if that didn't make sense, I tried explaining it as well as I could.

EDIT: By the way, if you love classic Rareware games, keep an eye on Playtonic's twitter. News of their game will be coming out in the next four days: https://twitter.com/PlaytonicGames/status/592679659483111424

It was back in 2003 when I first fought King K. Rool. It took me quite a few tries for me to beat him but I eventually managed to do so. I particularly loved his trick on "Kredits" where he tricked me into thinking the game had ended but then come back to fight even more. It was the first SNES game I'd had ever beaten and in fact, one of the first video games I've even seen the credits towards (outside of Pokémon games).

for me it's probably because he was the first (and possibly only) boss i couldn't beat in my childhood. both in DKC and DKC2 i wasn't able to actually beat him, that kind of difficulty kind of makes you like a character more later on as you get older.

i Support our King/Pirate/Scientist(?) Kroc, i see a lot of potential with him and I'd probably at the very least pick him up as a secondary if he were included.

Oh boy! Story time!

So I've been playing DKC since it came out, back in '94. I was 3 years old, but my aunt and I would play them together, and I enjoyed them so much that unlike alot of games back then, we actually powered through each game as it came out and get all the way to K. Rool; and it just so happens that Rare games always stuck out to me.

I played Diddy Kong Racing to death, even if I was terrible at the silver coins, and then there's Banjo. (Probably my favorite two games of all time.) And DK64, which comes in close.

But you asked about K. Rool, and throughout all of that, the only villain that means more to me in videogames is Gruntilda; K. Rool and Grunty both have an incredibly amount of personality, with K. Rool's being alot more subtle to people who are unfamiliar with the character. Especially in DK64. And he was also my favorite character in the cartoon growing up, even though I had a softspot for Diddy too.

I just always liked the designs of the Kremlings in general too, and K. Rool in Smash aside from all the other things I love about him (his psychotic personality, the fact that he'd bring true "diabolical" villain flavor to Smash Bros., his multiple awesome designs.) is sort of my connection to my childhood, and the times I played the DKC games, not to mention being a strong connector between Rare's past and current Nintendo.

So it really irks the **** out of me when someone says K. Rool fans are just bandwagoners.

Well, after two days of intense focus and letting ideas slosh around in my feverish kitty brain, I've finally written up a full K. Rool moveset! I have been meaning to do this for quite some time now, and I'm pretty pleased with how it's turned out.

Glory to K. Rool etc. Feedback is appreciated!

K. ROOL TAKES KOMMAND!
The Kremling King takes kommand! K. Rool is a heavyweight fighter with a twist: he's packin' heat! His moveset features a vast and eclectic arsenal of weapons and tools, all especially designed to cause havoc and take advantage of the playing field. K. Rool thrives on strategy, cunning, setups and good old-fashioned trickery, and his long-range moves compliment his impressive stature and durability, ensuring he can kommand the stage and blow his opponents away with kannonballs, krowns, Klaptraps and even his infamous Blast-O-Matic! K. Rool's playstyle involves clever use of his gadgets and contraptions to bait the opponent into making a mistake, then punishing them with a well-timed blast or trick - while this makes him open to being baited and punished himself, and he's not the fastest or most agile of fighters, he's no pushover. What he lacks in speed and grace, he makes up for with range, diversity, tactics and raw power: take kommand of the stage and show those wretched apes who's boss!
* SPECIAL MOVES *

* NEUTRAL-B - KANNONBALL *
K. Rool launches a kannonball from his trusty blunderbuss, the distance and speed increasing based on how long the move is charged for: if it's used right away, the kannonball will drop at his feet, and if charged fully, it'll be launched a great distance. The kannonball can be stored as it's charged, and double-tapping will launch the kannonball at that point. A kannonball that lands on the ground will stay there for a short while and can be picked up and thrown by any fighter on the stage, or it will break of its own accord if it lingers for too long.

- CUSTOM 1 - BOUNCING BALL -
K. Rool launches a kannonball that bounces when it lands. It can't be charged as long, so the maximum distance it travels is about half the length of the default move, and since it bounces indefinitely until it hits something or breaks, it can't be picked up. The kannonball will be destroyed as soon as it hits a target, or it will break of its own accord if it lingers for too long.

- CUSTOM 2 - FREAKY FUMES -
K. Rool launches a toxic cloud that has a number of quirky effects. The cloud travels forward at a slow pace, inflicting the opponent with a status effect. The effect changes depending on how long the move is charged for, signified by the colour of the smoke emanating from the barrel. The colours and effects are, respectively: green (causes a flower to bloom on the opponent's head), blue (causes freezing) and red (makes the opponent dizzy).

* SIDE-B - KREMLING KROWN *
K. Rool throws his kingly krown to skewer his opponent. When thrown, the krown can be freely commanded and aimed at will. It does a lot of damage if it hits its target, though it'll return to K. Rool instantaneously if it's left to linger for too long. Holding this move will maintain the krown's momentum, and releasing it will bring it back to K. Rool on cue. K. Rool himself can't move while the krown is active: while he's gawping at the screen, he's totally vulnerable, and getting hit will cause the krown to return to him. Note that, as a point of animation, K. Rool will produce a krown even if he isn't wearing one at the time.

- CUSTOM 1 - KRAZY KROWN -
K. Rool flings a krafty krown that has a mind of its own. When thrown, the krown will home in on the nearest opponent - after hovering ominously overhead for a moment, it'll smash right into them and explode, sending them flying! K. Rool can't aim the krown and he can't move while it's active, and getting hit will cause the krown to return to him.

- CUSTOM 2 - K. BOOM KROWN -
K. Rool tosses a konvenient krown onto the ground that will explode on contact. It will be thrown a set distance in front of K. Rool and remain stationary until an opponent touches it, at which point it will explode, doing impressive damage and launching them with high knockback. The krown will disappear of its own accord if it's left to linger for too long, doing no damage. K. Rool can move while the krown is active, but he can't produce another krown until it explodes or disappears, and touching the krown will damage him as well.

* UP-B - KOPTER PACK *
K. Rool straps on his kopter pack and takes to the skies. When activated, he floats up into the air for a set distance before dropping the pack and plummeting back down to earth. He automatically travels upwards and can move very slightly left or right as he travels. It travels far and fast, though it doesn't have a hitbox.

- CUSTOM 1 - SHOCK KOPTER -
K. Rool hitches himself into a prototype kopter that's shocking to the touch. When activated, he slowly rises into the air and travels a set distance before releasing himself and falling back down. The distance traveled is half that of the default move, but because it's slower, he can steer himself to a much greater degree. The main difference with this move is that, while airborne, K. Rool has an active hitbox that does powerful electric damage to anybody he comes in contact with.

- CUSTOM 2 - BARREL BLAST -
K. Rool tries out a technique favoured by his hated arch-enemies. When activated, K. Rool launches straight upwards with a rocket barrel attached to his back and, upon reaching the height of his launch, explodes and crashes back down. It takes a second to prep for launch, at which point it travels very high and fast. The explosion does a hefty amount of damage and has tremendous launching power, though it lacks a hitbox on the way up. He can't steer himself when using it and he'll plummet straight down when landing, so be careful where it's used!

* DOWN-B - KLAPTRAP *
K. Rool calls on the aid of his beloved pet to snap at the heels of his foes. When summoned, Klaptrap will scuttle forwards along the ground and latch onto any opponent he encounters: once it's got its teeth into an opponent, Klaptrap will do continuous damage until it's either knocked off with a physical strike or it has its fill and wanders off of its own accord. Klaptrap can be knocked out before it latches onto an opponent if it takes enough damage, and if it encounters a wall or ledge, it will turn around and continue walking, departing after a set amount of time. Only one Klaptrap can be summoned at a time. After either being knocked out or departing of its own volition, Klaptrap will hop off-screen, and the animation must finish before another can be summoned. If he's feeling particularly boisterous, K. Rool can even pick up his own Klaptrap and throw it! Klaptrap won't latch on in this case and will vanish immediately after contact, doing only minor damage, but it can be a useful improvised projectile in a pinch.

- CUSTOM 1 - KLAMPON -
K. Rool summons a bigger and more vicious variety of his adorable pet croc. Klampon has a larger hitbox than Klaptrap and is more durable, capable of accruing more damage before being knocked out. As a result of its size and ferocity, Klampon does a lot more damage than Klaptrap, but it's also much slower and doesn't last as long as its smaller, nippier cousin. As with Klaptrap, Klampon can be picked up and thrown as an improvised projectile. It's very heavy and difficult to carry, but because it does decent damage and has high launching power, it may be worthwhile to just throw it in the first place.

- CUSTOM 2 - MECHA-KLAP -
K. Rool pulls out a peculiar mechanical version of his ankle-biting pet. These gleaming silver machines don't actually move and will remain in place as soon as they are summoned, and will not latch onto an opponent or do any damage if they come into contact with a target. Instead, a second Mecha-Klap can be summoned at will, and if two Mecha-Klaps are on the stage at a time, they'll unleash their true power: activating the move a third time will create a powerful surge of electricity that courses between their metallic bodies! The electric current doesn't do have any launching power, but it does strong continuous damage to anybody caught in its sparking flow. The current lasts a couple of seconds before dissipating, at which point both Mecha-Klaps will explode in a non-lethal blast that does no damage. K. Rool will also take damage if he enters his own electric current. The Mecha-Klaps can be picked up and thrown at will, though they do minor damage, and because they're immobile, the opponent can pick them up and throw them as well. The Mecha-Klaps will depart of their own accord after a set duration if they aren't activated.

* FINAL SMASH - BLAST-O-MATIC *
K. Rool activates his greatest weapon, the fearsome Blast-O-Matic, and blows away his enemies! When activated, the Blast-O-Matic will appear in the background and a reticule will target the players on-screen: the reticule can be aimed at will, and activating the move again will release a powerful laser beam from the distance. The beam will do massive continuous damage to any players caught in the blast and then launch them with great power.

* STANDARD MOVES *
Jab - K. Rool punches up to twice in a row with a pair of boxing gloves

F-tilt - K. Rool releases a hefty blow from his armoured gut; it has the added effect of reflecting projectiles if it connects on the last frame

U-tilt - K. Rool thrusts his scaly cranium upwards, striking with a ferocious headbutt

D-tilt - Crouching will send K. Rool into his "playing dead" pose, allowing him to use this move, a sneaky low punch that doesn't launch, but does decent damage

F-smash - K. Rool throws a boxing glove that spins through the air and returns to him on the way back; the glove's power and distance increases as the move is charged, but it can't be used again until the glove returns to K. Rool

U-smash - K. Rool stomps the ground, dropping a kannonball directly in front of him; up to three kannonballs can be dropped if the move is charged, each one progressively moving further out, but K. Rool can't move until all kannonballs have dropped

D-smash - K. Rool crashes into the ground with a powerful butt-slam, releasing a nasty shockwave; the shockwave's power and size increases as the move is charged, but the move becomes proportionately slower to land as a result

Dash - Using the flames from his blunderbuss as a jet, K. Rool propels himself forward with great speed; he can maintain this momentum indefinitely until he stops

N-air - K. Rool spreads his arms and legs out and performs a belly-flop in mid-air

F-air - K. Rool swings both boxing glove-clad fists down in mid-air, spiking anybody it connects with

B-air - K. Rool aims his blunderbuss behind him and releases a burst of smoke, pushing him forward slightly in mid-air

U-air - K. Rool swipes overhead with an electrified joy buzzer, zapping the opponent in mid-air

D-air - K. Rool pulls out a kannonball in mid-air and whacks the opponent with it from above

Grab - A long-range grab that pulls in the opponent with a vacuum from the blunderbuss; once activated, K. Rool can't move until the animation is finished, and throwing a kannonball into the blunderbuss during this time will cause it to backfire, damaging K. Rool and anybody caught in the blast

Pummel - K. Rool headbutts the opponent, it's a slow pummel that does decent damage

F-throw - K. Rool bashes the opponent with the butt of his blunderbuss; while it doesn't do much damage, it has good launching power

B-throw - K. Rool tosses the opponent behind him and whacks them with the butt of his blunderbuss; it does minor damage, but has good launching power

U-throw - K. Rool throws the opponent upwards and blasts them away with his blunderbuss

D-throw - K. Rool throws the opponent onto the ground and shoots them at point-blank range with his blunderbuss

* MISCELLANEOUS *

* TAUNTS *
Up taunt - Throws his hands into the air and shouts, "Yeah! Yeah!"; performing it again will change the quote to, "Thank you! Thank you!", and it thereafter cycles between the two

Side taunt - Turns his head and gawps at the screen a couple of times

Down taunt - Falls over and plays dead, followed by a swipe to the feet that does no damage, but trips up the opponent; the animation looks identical to his crouching pose, so it's useful as a feint tactic

* ENTRANCE *
Sails in on his ship and hops onto the stage

* VICTORY *
Victory 1 - K. Rool falls over and plays dead while the Kredits roll

Victory 2 - K. Rool laughs maniacally and fires his blunderbuss off in the air

Victory 3 - K. Rool slams the ground and gawps at the screen as a shower of bananas falls on top of him

Fantastic job with this moveset. It's nearly my ideal K Rool moveset. I especially like the back air idea.

Thank you so much! :3

I spent a long time mulling over it and tweaking it 'til I was satisfied with it. I toyed with the idea of him having twelve unique custom moves, but considering the diversity I tried including in his standard moves, I felt it'd come across as too gimmicky. There were a lot of ideas I knew I had to include somehow and I couldn't fit everything I wanted in exactly as I intended to, but I tried to include as much little nods to K. Rool's powers and characteristic traits as I could.

The only specials I knew for certain had to be included were the neutral-b and up-b; the rest were decided after a lot of trial and error, and I seriously considered reworking all of his specials from the ground up to work better. I managed to stay true to what I thought would work best even so, and I tried to make it as dynamic and interesting as I could while staying true to the source materials. Creating his taunts and victory poses was especially fun, and I spent a while tweaking his palettes to ensure they'd look good in practice.

K. Rool is simultaneously incredibly easy and nail-bitingly difficult to design a moveset for: he just does so much, it's difficult to narrow it down to four specials and a selection of standard moves! I have a lot of respect for people that can design something so in-depth and creative, it was a lot of fun to do and I'm really glad that I can share it with all of you~ ^w^

Here is something I want to ask K. Rool fans. What made you a fan of K. Rool or want him for Smash? When did you start becoming a fan of K. Rool?
My first exposure to gaming was watching a cousin defeat him in DKC, Christmas of '99. Naturally, there's a nostalgia factor there, and I remember finding him really amusing with his crown toss and HONK noises.

I got into gaming myself around 2003 with DKC, and later its sequels and even the cartoon. He was a constant enjoyable presence in all of the above, with his bumbling, yet deranged antics and personable Kremling minions. When I joined Smashboards in 2008, I also made extensive movesets for the character: 2 for King, 2 for Kaptain, and 1 for Baron.

Although I always wanted him for Smash (him and Diddy) since learning of Melee in 2005, my support picked up more when Diddy was confirmed, then much more when Retro was laughing about how "no crocodiles" were in DKC Returns and asking "Does he really need to come back?" Not only did I want the character in Smash then, I wanted him back, period.

And lastly, being lucky enough to grab the OP for the K. Rool thread back in 2012 made me part of a wonderful community of fans alongside whom I could support the character. Even though K. Rool is a staggeringly popular character, supporting him still very much feels like a grassroots movement, since there would be no chance of him returning whatsoever if people were complacent or happy about his disappearance.

And what do you know, look at us now...we're winning exit polls left and right, and the CEO of Retro Studios follows a "Bring Back K. Rool" account on Twitter. The snowball effect is well underway, and it's thanks to all of his fans that this is the case.

Since I was supporting Ridley back before Smash 3DS's release, I was always aware of how King K. Rool was holding strong at the top of the discussion threads, but when we didn't get any of our favourite characters and formed the "Forgotten All-Stars Alliance", I paid a bit more interest in King K. Rool when I took a look at his thread, noting their enthusiasm and energy for getting him as DLC.

With both Mewtwo and Ridley getting both of their roles in the game revealed, I thought that since the last character of those big three left to add was King K. Rool, I figured "Well, why not?":bee:

That's part of my history with K. Rool. And if all goes well, we'll be seeing the King's great return, and I'll be pleased to be part of that movement.

Oh boy!

Well what made me a fan was playing him as a boss battle in dkc1, as a kid I felt that after the long journey through dk island it was something magnificent to fight and defeat this big, BEAUTIFULLY designed beast on a pirate ship which as I progressed through the game, his ship coming closer and closer to the island. It's like finding the ultimate end to an inspiring adventure, a superb battle with this big chubby crocodile who looks like a worthy foe. It's hard to explain the magic I felt as a child playing this game and fighting K. Rool. In my best explanation, I was in AWE with everything about Donkey Kong Country, from the aesthetic environment, quiet mountains, and polluted lakes and factories, and also... the enemies. K. Rool's design was by far the best design I'd ever seen next to Pokemon as a child.

TLDR: I was in love with DKC 1 and 2 as a kid

As for smash bros. simple, I've wanted him since Melee as Dkc 1-3 were my favorite games aside Pokemon. And was always disappointed as a kid that he wasn't included.
