Doubt it.Sakurai is slinging the "not-playable-in-smash" hammer with increased frequency as of late. Keep them b-holes clenched because the next one could be someone we all love... (K. Rool)
It's sad this even remains a possibility. It's ominous how despite his popularity, the name K. Rool hasn't been mentioned by Nintendo in years. Maybe we should rename K. Rool to "he who shall not be named" if he fails to get into Smash 4.Doubt it.
I feel that K. Rool is either going to get announced as a newcomer or deconfirmed when the game comes out. If his role isn't playble, then I don't think he'll have any role. Possibly not even a trophy. Why? Because pretty much the only reason for him to not be playable is if Nintendo is really trying to sweep him under the rug. He meets all the other qualifications: moveset potential, popularity and importance. The only other reason I can think of is Sakurai personally disliking the character, in which case the situation will probably be the same.
I guess the idea of "sweeping under the rug" is where that rock formation sort of comes into play. I would think that if they really are trying to wipe K. Rool out of the picture, making any kind of reference to him would seem a little backwards. Ultimately, it's just an easter egg, but the acknowledgement alone shows they haven't completely forgotten about K. Rool. And seeing just how popular he is at this point, it would certainly be in their best interests to have him return for future installments, perhaps preceded by an appearance in Smash. That's how I see it anyway. This is kind of a now-or-never scenario. I don't think Sakurai hates him - let's just reminisce real quickly about the amount of content he got for just a trophy character: a trophy of both him and his minions, quite a few stickers, a default name in the Stage Builder, and an obvious homage via Bowser's character in the Subspace Emissary - but if Nintendo is really trying to sweep the Kremlings under the rug, then that could easily be his downfall. However, it would obviously have a negative impact at least on fans' opinions, as well, since K. Rool has easily been up there in the Most Wanted for Smash for quite a while, with no exclusivity to one region of the world.
After Dixie Kong's ideal time to shine came and went, I feel like K. Rool's chances are as strong as ever. We got the bare minimum of what you'd expect to promote Tropical Freeze (Diddy Kong). And let me remind you that the Direct happened the same day as Japan's release for Tropical Freeze. A hypothetical TF newcomer would have been SO ideal! I seriously doubt Sakurai would have someone related to Tropical Freeze and not reveal them at such a perfect time.
Literally, the only things K. Rool has against him is Nintendo trying to get rid of the Kremlings....and that sounds more like a conspiracy theory than anything, honestly. I just think that Retro is trying their hand at making their own rogue gallery. I don't think we need to needlessly get ourselves down in the dumps about it, especially at a time when his ambiguous role is flickering towards the better.
You could say that Sakurai should tread lightly.Sakurai needs to think wisely here.
I'd forgotten about the trophies and other references. K. Rool is undeniably a huge part of Nintendo's history, he can't be ignored or swept under the rug. I think it says a lot for K. Rool and his chances that you'd need a kind of conspiracy theory for him to be left out entirely. Blame the factor that the guys who developed the cartoon were using the sprites as the basis.I always wondered if K. Rool was based off Bowser' s design in the super mario bros. super show. Then again, it makes me wonder why they made Bowser all green with a crown instead of hair in that show in the first place.
I'm going to disagree with this because Sakurai is developing the game. You know, the guy who decided it was a genius idea to "level the playing field" between players of various skill levels by adding tripping. The guy who dedicated 60% of Brawl's development time to the SSE because "that's what players were looking for." The guy who cut cutscenes from the game, not because they're a resource vacuum, but because his feelings were hurt that they were uploaded to YouTube, rather than trickled out at tortoise pace on the website over the next month and a half.I can agree to that. If they just totally ignore him all together, then it's obvious what Nintendo is trying to do with the character [For some stupid reason.].
This is King K Rool's chance. This is his moment. This is the first time, I can honestly say the desire for K.Rool to be in this game is HUGE. It's not something they can just easily ignore. It's all over Miiverse. It's all in comments.
Sakurai needs to think wisely here.
Eh....I will agree that Sakurai isn't perfect. Yeah, Brawl wasn't all it could've been because of the fortune sunk into a lackluster Adventure Mode and the ability to unwillingly fall over, but I think Sakurai has proven that, with this go-around, the newcomers will be thought out more so than in Melee and Brawl. Where Melee introduced a slew of characters that barely differed from other characters, and Brawl introduced characters whose gimmicks were so unrefined that most found it hard to play with them, SSB4 is not only attempting to correct Brawl's incapability to update characters and make their gimmicks work (Lucario's aura actually matters, Diddy has found his inner Lanky, Bowser went to the chiropractor), but the five newcomers we know about are characters who can't really be replicated. I would be very surprised to find out Sakurai put in a newcomer clone as a serious priority...I'm going to disagree with this because Sakurai is developing the game. Literally all it would take for K. Rool to be left out is for the guy to *laugh* more at the idea of adding a second monkey, or to find generic hair whips to be more unique than multiple boss fights chock-full of villain weaponry, and the King is sunk. That wouldn't be evidence of some conspiracy, it would just be Sakurai being Sakurai, yet again.
Fortunately, the outcome of every character is at the mercy of The Almighty Sakurai, not just K. Rool's. Stupid factors could affect any of them, not just him.
Thing is, I agree with you...thus far, at least. My reservation stems pretty much entirely from the Wii Fit Trainer at this point. If that's what passes for unique this time around, I have less confidence in Sakurai's adherence to unique newcomers than I would just looking at the other four.I'm not trying to say that you or anyone is "wrong". I just think that, while Sakurai has certainly made some questionable decisions in the past, he has kind of proven just how "in the game" his head is this time around...at least in picking newcomers. If there is a new DK rep, he'll choose the one who not only has the stronger move potential, but also a worldwide fanbase....which is K. Rool.
And I can totally understand that. I don't know a single person who wasn't shocked by WFT's inclusion. But with Wii Fit Trainer, there wasn't someone already in the game with her potential playstyle. There really isn't anyone with her potential health-nut statistics who fights using casual yoga/aerobic movement. Dixie Kong, on the other hand, is built exactly like Diddy Kong and has very little to differentiate her. In my opinion, it's two different leagues. One, while very absurd, doesn't really take from any veterans. The other is a female version of a veteran, which would probably make her low-priority.Thing is, I agree with you...thus far, at least. For some reason, while many see a comradery/rivalry between Bowser and K. Rool, I like to think more of K. Rool and Ridley being the unexpected duo.
I was thinking about an action movie for "Never Say Too Big," but I think a sitcom could work. Two and a Half Reptiles, anyone? You've got the crazy, borderline goofy K. Rool who comes up with convoluted schemes, and Ridley who is no nonsense serious and just wants to get the job done at any cost.
...
Someone needs to make a cartoon show out of that idea.
Who's the half reptile?I think it makes sense that Bowser and K. Rool would be rivals. At first it didn't make sense, but now it does since they are both completely different characters with different motives. Bowser just wants to take over and control everything he sees while still keeping honor to his foes. K. Rool on the other hand will use all sorts of machinery and wants to start ruling the world by starving his arch-nemesis to death. I can definitely see K. Rool and Ridley get along for their maddening plans.

why not added Link and Ganondorf later on the show?Who's the half reptile?
Bowser Jr.?
If K. Rool is to Ridley, that would make King Dedede comparable to Bowser then right? I got it new sitcom, all 4 of these villains live in an apartment together and their next door neighbors are the respected heroes.
Lord K. Rooldemort, you say? It's sad this even remains a possibility. It's ominous how despite his popularity, the name K. Rool hasn't been mentioned by Nintendo in years. Maybe we should rename K. Rool to "he who shall not be named" if he fails to get into Smash 4.
I'd prefer J. K. Rooling as his new persona, myself.Lord K. Rooldemort, you say?
Why, that could be the theme for the next DKC game with K. Rool. Who doesn't want to see crocodiles flying on brooms?
Wait, would that mean Crankydore... y'know... pops his last balloon?I'd love for a level to be set in Azkabanana. Imagine the dissonance as Kong Weasley hops, skips and jumps on top of Death Eater heads to the tunes of David Wise.
SNIDE KILLS CRANKYDORE.Wait, would that mean Crankydore... y'know... pops his last balloon?
In a recent interview, K. Rooling claimed he paired those two as a form of wish fulfillment.SPOILER: Hermonkey Granger and Kong Weasley get together at the end! Sorry, shippers.
No you idiot, obviously it would be Tiny Weasley and Minerva McWrinklygall.I propose that we have Monknerva McTinygall.
