I don't think he's been withheld mysteriously for a long time, they just want him to release alongside Star Fox Zero. Do note as well that, although we KNOW Wolf is in the game, they haven't really focused on Wolf yet, which is an oddity. Pigma received a huge focus in the early gameplay shown, but they're saving him for later.

And yes, 3 ballot newcomers on top of Wolf is my current bet.

From what I've heard, Isaac isn't getting much love in japan and seeing how DLC is aimed at a worldwide audience, it's somewhat unlikely that he will happen. K.Rool is being requested with high regards practicality everywhere, the Ridley Revolution "leader?" @Zem-raj has sent a book to nintendo about including an accurately portrayed playable Ridley. Wolf could go either way at this point, and I think people would prefer more unique characters but that's just me.

Ok, so Isaac not getting THAT much attention in Japan but getting massive appeal in the west is a negative factor? I'm not seeing it. Who else would they pick instead? I don't get this logic. Isaac is still semi-popular in Japan at least, and he's one of the frontrunners in the west. Big whoop, that's nothing against him really.

Ok, so Isaac not getting THAT much attention in Japan but getting massive appeal in the west is a negative factor? I'm not seeing it. Who else would they pick instead? I don't get this logic. Isaac is still semi-popular in Japan at least, and he's one of the frontrunners in the west. Big whoop, that's nothing against him really.

To echo what Jaidyn here is saying, Isaac is still neck and neck with K. Rool in the west, and still mildly popular in Japan when compared to others, but not exactly fighting for the number 1. That said, who IS fighting for Number 1 in Japan that isn't K. Rool or a Veteran? I was under the impression Krystal was more popular over there than she is in the West. Surely they must have their "Isaac" that is super popular over there but rather lukewarm here.

But even then, it's basically veterans scooping up most of the votes that we know of. Thankfully, K. Rool is among the top requested for newcomers that I know of in JPN.

If not Isaac, alongside K. Rool, then who!? Bandana Dee? He struggles to hit the top 10 in the West, no idea how he does in the East. Inklings I'd imagine as well, but they seem like they are being saved for the next game, what with their ink mechanic likely being hell on the 3DS.

I think Wolf was always planned, but they started development on him later than the existing DLC characters because they wanted to shoot for a release close to that of the new Star Fox, and knew they'd have time to finish his development before then.

Having three ballot newcomers would give me a lot of hope for K. Rool, though having just one newcomer would make things dicier...the costume would really start to look like a "close, but no cigar" result then. But until further news, I'll have faith they plan on more than one newcomer from a half-year ballot. Sakurai and co. relish in going "above and beyond" with squeezing in content, and I absolutely don't buy the arguments that "this is just for Smash 5" or "it's to raise hype while they develop newcomers they already had planned."

I don't see Ridley happening in any way, shape, or form. Unfortunately.

Logically, yes, the internet would melt down in the hype and crow feeding. That would be the smart thing to do, but Sakurai is dead set against Ridley. As much as I fancy Ridley's arrival as a playable character, I just don't see it. He's one of the few massively hype worthy characters left but design issues seem to hold him back, or whatever reason they ended up going with beyond what we were given as Ridley not working due to his proportions (even if a 14 year old made it work decently on his own, sod it all)

Sakurai would be very ignorant to just see Isaac and say he's just Robin 2.0 when Isaac mainly uses Earth psynergy, something no one in the roster has.

I don't see Ridley this time (or any AT or NPC for that matter) because pulling a reversal and making him playable is as good as admitting it was "wrong" to make him that role in the first place. As Chris Pranger said, when fans say "Frick, don't do that," Sakurai says "But...my vision." Of course, votes for Ridley absolutely matter for next game, where if he stays onboard, his vision may just evolve if we're lucky.

K. Rool has a lot of Japanese support for newcomers, but Japan doesn't really care a lot about newcomers from what we've heard, only veterans, so it's a bit of a "tallest ******" contest in that regard. Fortunately, he dwarfes most other candidates in the West, which benefited guys like Sonic and Little Mac in the past...they can point to K. Rool and say, collectively "The West really really wants him (and Isaac)," which is great for us to have that distinction.

My thoughts exactly. Of course, the chunk of the fanbase that takes everything at face value with no nuance at all would be saying "See?!?! He obviously thinks this is a consolation prize! Deconfirmed!" (notice they always use the word 'obviously' to passively put it in people's heads that they're stupid if they disagree).

On a similar note, I've been going on a few other sites this morning, and people on sites like GameFAQs and 4chan are noticing and complaining about how all the popular Miiverse submissions for the contest are K. On a similar note, I've been going on a few other sites this morning, and people on sites like GameFAQs and 4chan are noticing and complaining about how all the popular Miiverse submissions for the contest are K. Rool pictures. Their outrage is kind of funny...tell us again, sage users, how "no one cares" about the character again?

It's interesting when you also consider that Miiverse is a bit outside of the usual echo-chamber to some degree - you see a lot more of the everyday players who don't necessarily get involved with dedicated communities, but nonetheless want to talk games with others because the facility has been provided. If past contests are anything to go on, those posts aren't popular because of kampaigners alone, are they?

-Toon Link DECONFIRMED because you can't have a fighter in the background of the stage at the same time.
-Villager DECONFIRMED because the villagers appear in Smashville.
-Villager DECONFIRMED because Sakurai said Smash is too violent for the series.

-Duck Hunt DECONFIRMED because dogs are not plausible to fight
-Ness DECONFIRMED because Sakurai said "Up unitl now"
-R.O.B. DECONFIRMED because hes already an enemy in SSE. You can't have a fighter and an enemy at the same time.
-All Clones DECONFIRMED because clearly Sakurai wants to get rid of them this time around.

As it stands, characters can be fighters and have mii costumes at the same time. If you think a character is instantly out the race because a costume appeared TWO MONTHS before the ballot is even over, you seriously have no grasp on the situation. The costumes are released in waves, meaning they are preplanned and not made over night. Costumes like these were in plannings well before they were released, even well before the ballot started. If we get a character from the ballot, it could be several months before they EVEN DECIDE who is worthy....and even then, it will be MANY MONTHS after that until we see the character released.

Joke aside, I've noticed something in a pic of Super Mario Maker showing a list of costumes:

You may notice that there's only one spot between Donkey Kong and Kirby, and I believe costumes will be ordered by series. If that's real, it may mean that there's only one spot for another Donkey Kong character, which is of course reserved for Diddy Kong, implying that there may be no other amiibo costume based on Donkey Kong characters. If King K. Rool (or any other Donkey Kong character for that matter) was planned to be Smash DLC, I would have expected to see their costumes in SMM, so... I don't know what to think about it. I suppose they may still add more costumes in the future through updates, right?
