This is it. What we've been waiting for. THE chance to blow the stupid record from 2008 to pieces.
As the fifth iteration of the B.E.A.S.T series, we have grown bigger than ever! It is still a little too early to confirm names, but you can expect Europe's best to face off against each other. And you never know, we might have intercontinental visitors yet again!

B.E.A.S.T 5 is proud to be a part of the Apex World Circuit!

What does this mean then? It means that we get a ton of nice perks, and I will list them for you right here:
$1,000 Pot Bonus (used towards 1v1 only)
$500 TO budget (Which will be used to sponsor OOContinent players)
Twitch promotion (Twitter & FB)
Apex promotion (Twitter & FB)
Flight + Hotel to winner to Apex 2015 (If winner is already qualified, this will move down to second place)
1-24th to get circuit points. Top 16 in points at the end of the Apex circuit advance into the top 48 man bracket, skipping pools at Apex 2015.

Point system:
1st Place – 500 points
2nd Place – 350 points
3rd Place – 260 points
4th place – 210 points
5th-6th – 160 points
7th-8th – 130 points
9th-12th – 100 points
13th-16th – 80 points
17th- 24th – 60 points
B.E.A.S.T has outgrown its old home and will be hosted in a different venue this time. The venue is yet another school, this time a bigger one and we will have access to more space.

Hvitfeldtska Gymnasiet
Rektorsgatan 2
411 33
Gothenburg
Sweden

As mentioned, the venue is a school. We will have classrooms dedicated for sleeping rooms, so all you need to bring is something to sleep on. And maybe a pillow.
We have to leave the building on Sunday, however, and I understand that this means a whole lot of smashers needing a place to sleep. Here is a guide to find a nice hotel or hostel:
Hotels and Hostels in Gothenburg

General advice and Links:

Overall hostels have a pretty good standard here in Sweden are usually the places to go for value but hotels are conveniently placed very near the venue because of the close proximity to the main boulevard in Gothenburg, compared to a lot of hostels that are slightly further away. Both options are well within walking distance of both the venue and the central parts of Gothenburg, with affordable options available in both categories.

When it comes to booking hotels in Gothenburg, Trivago.com is one of your best places to book. This place usually lists the best deals around and it has a great filtering and ordering system for you to use. You can even use the location address to filter hotels by distance to Röhssgatan, where the venue is located.

When it comes to booking hostels you will be looking at hostels.com for the most accurate and best filtering system. Not much to say about it, it works.

If you are finding yourself booking a accomodation far from the venue, taking a tram or bus to the Centralstation will usually sort you out when it comes to travel, considering all trams except nr 8 travel in that area.
http://www.trivago.com
http://www.hostels.com
Recommendations for value/proximity:
With labelling it as value it is inherently going to be recommendations based on look, person experience and price.

For hostels Linnéplatsens Hotell & Vandrarhem is the winner. This hostel is located just 2km away from the venue, and only 500m to walk if you take the tram number 2 from Linnéplatsen heading towards Mölndal, stepping off at Vasaplatsen. Value is the word here and it's a nice place as well. Free WiFi should be included.

For hotel the recommendation comes in for Scandic Hotel Rubinen for price versus comfort level and the overall state of the hotel. This is also conveniently very close <1km away from the venue. The Elite Park Avenue Hotel located 100m up the road towards the venue is the pricier option around for those who are looking for that.

If you are staying for a longer time and want to look for housing, go to this Facebook Group.

There will be showers!

Traveling from outside of Scandinavia?
The flight to BEAST 5 is inherently going to be slightly pricier than flying back because of the close date to New Years Eve, so being stricter with arrival date and flexible with departure back date is going to serve your wallet well in this regard.

For Europe, Ryan Air is pretty much your bet. You are most likely going to want to aim yourself to fly directly to Gothenburg, either Gothenburg-Arlanda (GOT) or Gothenburg City Airport (GSE), since travel costs are already going to be low enough that public transportation from other nearby international airports are going to be more expensive.

Flying from the US can be a cumbersome experience with some airlines offering the whole trip but with several long stops along the way.
Your cheapest bet when it comes to airlines is flying with Norwegian to Oslo-Gardermoen (OSL) or Copenhagen-Kastrup (CPH) and traveling the rest of the way with train and buses since there are few alternatives that fly directly to Gothenburg. This cuts down the price of the ticket by more than what the bus/train costs and in most cases lets you fly without any stop along the way, which often takes more time than the added train/bus journey.
If you are comfortable with cost, flying to Gothenburg-Arlanda (GOT) or Gothenburg City Airport (GSE) is the closest you can get.

Flying to Sweden is in most cases going to require you to fly to the East Coast (or get there any way you like it)
There are some exceptions: Norwegian has flights that go directly to and from Copenhagen from Los Angeles, and other alternative airlines might offer similar flights to varying costs.

Traveling from Copenhagen-Kastrup Airport (CPH)
Taking the Train or Bus from Kastrup to Gothenburg is a very easy experience. The Köbenhavns Lufthavn station at the airport has both direct transport and transports with a stop in Malmö that average at around 4 hour travel to central Gothenburg.
Estimated cost with booking in advance: 55$, 420SEK or 45€ round-trip.

Traveling from Oslo-Gardermoen Airport (OSL)
This airport is slightly out of the way from the center of Oslo and requires you to take a train before continuing your travel to Gothenburg. This ticket is at a fixed rate and can be acquired prior to your flight or at arrival for flexibility in arrival to Oslo Central. From Oslo to Gothenburg your best bet is to take a bus for roughly 3.5 hours, since trains are neither direct or time-efficient.
Estimated total cost with bus booked in advance: 65$, 500SEK or 50€ round trip.

Traveling from Gothenburg-Landvetter (GOT)
Buses to and from the airport go every 15-20 minutes during the day to/from the central station that take around 30 minutes and cost roughly 24$, 185SEK or 19€ round trip.

Traveling from Gothenburg City Airport (GSE)
Buses to and from the airport go in sync with Ryan Air flights, leaving 30 minutes after arrival and going back from the central station 2 hours and 20 minutes before flight departure. The journey takes 30 minutes and cost is roughly 20$, 160SEK or 16€ round trip.

Bus from Oslo/Copenhagen to Gothenburg
Train from Copenhagen and within Sweden
Train between Oslo and Oslo Airport
Norwegian Airlines

Alternative bus booking, cheaper in some cases but might need some help with translation
The venue is located very central in Gothenburg and only requires you to hop on a tram for less than 10 minutes.
From the central station you are going to head towards the square where the trams leave and hop on tram number 7 heading towards Tynnered, this tram should be heading right if you approach from the central station. Get off at the stop called "Kapellplatsen."
Tickets are available from blue machines on-board the tram (taking both cash and cards) as well as the travel shop in the middle of the square.

Luigi representing!

Aww yiss.

I'm also willing to help anyone from the US and far away to get the best deals when flying here if they are trying to cut the costs.

Likely coming.

Friday is looking a bit empty, wouldn't it be possible to have another doubles event or something during that day?

Interested.

A bit sad to see melee being to late sunday evening though. You even pointed out the reason yourself - people might (or rather some will) leave earlier on sunday to catch planes and stuff. I suppose the same thing could be said for friday (depending on when you start), but I somewhat feel the problem would be worse on the other end.

It seems to me that everyone has some kind of mentality to keep the best for last (same with tournament streams even though it often means they end at like 5am in europe /salt).

God damn project M. I would love to see that moved to sunday instead.

Friday is a setting up day, and PM is a minor side event which will be run Friday night. At first there wasn't going to be anything on Friday.

Running a tournament this size in one day is just not possible, that is why we are using both Saturday and Sunday.

I have to agree with stelzig here. It's really unfortunate that some of the Melee tournament will be played late sunday. Moving PM to sunday would be best for everybody, i think. It's the minority of smashers who are actually interested in PM, especially here in Europe. It's very unfortunate for us foreigners. Not that travelling is a drag, but many of us have studies to attend early monday.

I figured you weren't planning on doing lots on friday since that's how it's been in the past. I'd still just rather see as little of sunday as possible being used for tournament play when it means people will have to leave before bracket ends.

Ah well I guess it can't be helped :(

We will see how it works out. If everything goes as it should, we might run through almost all three tournaments up to top 8 on Saturday, meaning Sunday will end earlier. But we cannot promise anything, so if you have to book a ticket it would still have to be as late as possible kinda.

But yeah, I am aware of the situation and will keep it in mind when we talk to the people in charge at the school about times and such.

OMG YASSS <3
Seya and I will almost certainly attend :D
We'll book the tickets in the next few weeks. Hopefully we can find decent flights at decent prices. We'll probably need hosing for a few nights though D:

I've also checked the Apex rules: if we're applying those rules we won't see Bo5 sets before Winners' Quarters/Finals, right?

DSR: You cannot counter pick to any stage you have won on ever.
> This applies to stages we strike to as well, right? And does that mean that a Bo5 set, if it gets played till the 5th match, will be played in 5 different stages? D:
It's not like I'm ever going to play a Bo5 in tournament LOL, I'm just wondering how it works :D

The neutral start thing sounds quite too complicated to remember lol

hypeeeeeee :D

Oh ****, I will change that later. We will see more Bo5 sets for sure!

Regarding the stages, I assume we will have to talk it over yet again. I couldn't care less tbh, as I consider the five neutral stages neutral.

As it is currently we do get access to the venue pretty late at Friday.
It would not be good to promise everyone we would finish early at Sunday.

Lolex and I have been working a ton on this event already, more than you guys understand and the amount of hours we will put in before Beast even start is so much.

It might suck that everyone can't be back home kinda early at Sunday, but why would missing Monday being THAT much worse than skipping Thursday?

Lolex and I really try our best to give you guys a great experience here, but we can't do the impossible either

With effective TOing and no Smash 4 doubles, it should possible to do Melee dubs/singles and Smash 4 singles over saturday and sunday in a timely manner

It would still take a LONG TIME.
People on stream and in person wanna see matches from the late bracket for sure. And even if we finished around 19.00 it would still be pretty questionable to make any flights. Lolex and I both think this is for the best.

After Saturday we need to have enough of a gap so people can actually get some sleep. Preforming with no sleep and being a TO with no sleep is a nightmare to be honest.

In America this is standard to finish on Sundays pretty late, I still don't understand why finish late on Sundays is so much worse than start it super early on Friday (which we can't do currently).

I don't mind the times, just saying some super-TOing could make it possible for more people to catch the end of the tournament.

Super-TOing is what we'll try, but there's only so much we can promise with 300 people and 10 confirmed Wii U setups atm.

Which reminds me, I should ask people to bring setups in the OP too!

Oh, it will also be interesting to see which country can get the biggest turnout. I'm getting good vibes from UK and Norway especially, so far!

I understand that you're short on time when it comes to TO'ing the tournament. It was just a request, asking about the possibility of having as little Melee on sunday as possible. But if it's impossible to start on pools friday night, then so be it. I'm looking forward to participating nonetheless. :)

Lolex, pls keep in mind, when we do Melee Top 8 on Sunday (like 13:00-14:00), we would miss almost all Viewer from US, because then it's like 3am in the night.

SSBU Singles 10 Dollar?

Why no SSBU Teams? :/, And is the flight + hotel stuff to apex just for melee or ssbu singles as well?

SSBU Singles 10 Euros. My bad.

And no SSBU teams, I fear for the time just singles will take considering the probable lack of setups..

We never stated we would do top 8 this early, that will in fact not happen. Sunday will be used for tournaments and we do have Smash 4 to focus on aswell, so don't be worried about the viewers, they will be there =)

Right now we don't wanna take the risk since having enough setups for singles alone seems to be VERY hard.
I'm working all the time, trying to get sponsors help us out here, I can't promise anything yet but the situation do not seem hopeless at least

A lot of viewers don't mind staying up that late. There will be plenty of viewers, no matter on what time of the day it is.

Sorry, but this is a Melee tournament first and foremost. The events will stay and a full schedule should be up next week.

6 Dutchies booked for this so far! Hype! I Was wondering though would it be possible to still set up a Sm4sh doubles side event on Friday, given the resources are present but not in use? It would be a shame to dismiss an entire event just based on the premise that there might not be enough setups. I'm sure the the sm4sh community could rally around and produce a smooth doubles event, even if it isn't an official one.

Seya and I have already booked our flights :D
We've waited just a few days and lots of flights disappeared or got A LOT more expensive wtf D:

We'll be there for sure and we'll try to bring with us a few italian players (maybe)
Also how's the winter in Sweden? Is it going to be extremely cold? D:

Yes, I did, thanks :D
I also checked the flights on various browsers etc. It's just that the prices have gotten a lot more expensive all of a sudden D:
