What do you guys think DD did BETTER than the originals?

There was a lot of dialogue in both the Lost Age and Dark Dawn, but I felt that Dark Dawn had better characters than the first 2 games, at least in terms of the time that the game took to develop character with the vast amount of dialogue.

For example, the lost age and OG had many chances to talk about Sheba, but other than the time that she poked fun at Jenna and the time she talked about her origin (or lack thereof), I can barely think of a single character trait.

Sveta, on the other hand, I feel is a well-written character that develops over the course of the game. Amiti too, is pretty well developed before and after he left Ayuthay. The only 3 people who have pretty lacking development are Eoleo, Rief and Himi.I think that a better balance could be found in terms of the overwhelming amount of dialogue in DD though.
I like the music. :3

Despite the facts that Weyard was eroding at the edges and that Prox would fall into the void (or whatever is below Weyard), I didn't think the first two games did a very good job at making the goal of the quest urgent. The Grave Eclipse, however, was an incredibly good motivator for Dark Dawn's characters. "These creatures are killing everyone -- quick, we need to activate the Apollo Lens!" Going along with this, the introduction of the Psynergy vortices, especially the Mourning Moon, was intriguing. Nothing like mystery and danger to get the player more engaged! It's just too bad the vortices were cliffhangered.

Dark Dawn also gave us a better glimpse of the kinds of power that people in times past had wielded with both technology and Alchemy. I'm not a fan of so many factions/names popping up in DD (so many things just seemed to come out of nowhere, as stated in my big post), but the Jenei and Exathi are good story elements, as are the Tuaparang. They help flesh out the history of Weyard prior to the sealing of the elemental stars.

I also quite like Alex's interactions with Blados and Chalis.

The climb to the Apollo Lens was incredible! The puzzles that were required to open the path were great! The setting of a light-energy-flooded area containing a giant lens was very cool! And the Sol Blade was made a plot element!

Dark Dawn did many good things, and aside from Lemuria, it contained more intrigue than the first two games. It's just that its failures tend to overshadow them for some people.

About the factions/names/places popping out of nowhere, there's a perfectly logical explanation for this: In the GBA games, the places already existed, but we only visited relevant places for the story. And of course the same goes for Dark Dawn, that's why we get to visit again some places but not all of them. Weyard changed a bit, but we also travel to different places.

I had always wondered if that was the case. Like how Belinsk would have been between Vault and Bilibin (or wherever, honestly the geography in DD messes with me a lot).

The music that plays on the Endless Wall (Ascent to Destiny) is one of my favorite tracks in the series.

EDIT: link here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KZJgvVVHCiQ&app=desktop

Funny story: to my knowledge this is the first-ever upload of the DD OST to Youtube. Myself, this uploader, and a few other people actually named all of the tracks for DD in english and then I uploaded the tracks to a now-defunct file-sharing site. This was back in the days of the classic Golden Sun Realm forums, the same people who hosted the original Golden Sun OST from the Jason Effect. I put a lot of effort into this OST, but the site moderator never ended up hosting the DD soundtrack on their page. I still have the originals in their most pristine state (or as pristine as mp3s can be), however, if anyone wants them.

Here's something I need to let out.

While I like most parts of DD...
I dislike Sveta the most, it's like Camelot was pushing her popularity by making her hogging everybody else's screentime and being absolutely broken in combat. Most menacing bosses are only weak to her element. DD could have been called Sveta: The Show. And of course everything that matters highly resist Venus.

EDIT:
I do agree about Blados and Chalis being relatively easier though (you even get Sveta before entering the Belinsk Ruins). Saturos & Menardi benefits from that prequel cutscene, successful plans even after losing, difficult to beat. Take one away and the formula wouldn't work.

Enough arguing, have a slice of this lost jam:

I really like Sveta...
But I think that what they should have done was made you fight 1 of the 2 generals in the Belinsk Ruins, à la the Saturos fight from Mercury Lighthouse. While they're at it make every boss in the game harder except for the final boss.

Awesome. Still prefer Golden Slam.
Sue me, but I think I might actually prefer it. The Venus Lighthouse theme is awesome, and always will be. But TLA's second overworld theme is very awesome, too, and certainly deserves more attention! (Including in this way. xD)

Thank you, oh skeletal genie! ;) Can't wait to listen to it!

Especially the Endless Wall theme and the new Isaac theme.

Yeah Sveta is fine. Except her overpowered nature.

She is a pretty important character, especially not an unneeded character unlike Himi who has almost no connection with the story, who is just added to say: see here is your 2nd Venus adept, she has a reveal knockoff power. Although she did fill a new archetype of a Venus mage style adept.

Her character development though is more than any other character. I must agree with what someone said that DD has more character development than any other GS game, mainly due to the sheer increase in dialogue. With all the unneeded dialogue there are more character developing dialogues as well. Except Himi though. She remains redundant as ever.

A perfect Golden Sun would take the perfect parts of Dark Dawn and the first 2 games, plus more and fuse 'em into an amazing GS game.

They must have something against Himi, the most obvious being that gameplay-wise she's irrelevant because mages cannot catch up to the power creep, but she was introduced very late in the story :(.

I mainly used Himi for items, since she is one of the fastest characters in the game.

Yea mages are most useful at the start, and warriors at end game. Himi being introduced at end game makes her even more redundant.

Himi has the Roaring Dragon Psynergy series that is a pretty powerful multi-target attack. Another thing that I always wanted in GS was a Jupiter Warrior, I mean, it's the only element that hasn't have someone able to wield Long Swords or Axes (Excalibur wielding Jupiter Adept would be pretty powerful).

Himi also gets the Necromage classes which auto suck because you can't Dullahan your way to victory.

Also the Roaring Dragon spells sucked major ass compared to other spells.

Basically we had the E3 one week before the E3.
Anyway we knew it, but I'm still sad by that waste of characters.

Haha, it's just like that Reddit thread about cross-over games ideas we were on, the other day. You see, my Golden Sun x Fire Emblem is the best idea, it even works from a gameplay point of view. :smirk:
So Falgor... care to tell us what you know about this Golden Sun X Fire Emblem game they are working on!? :awesome:

And didn't I tell you guys they would keep Roy's Neutral B to differentiate him from Marth and Lucina.

Is this legit?

Wow it's a bit of a letdown that this got leaked now. (and where's the intro splash screen?) Do we have anything to look forward to from the presentation tomorrow now?

Isaac please
That's the classic/all-star clear thing meaning those two are nearly ready for release. Japan got the update early apparently.

The video files for Roy & Ryu for clearing All-Star/Classic are the major things that got leaked from the upcoming patch that hit Japan early.

We still got the Direct guys, whatever Sakurai has to say has yet to be heard. Even then, there is E3 for Nintendo to spice up their channel with Smash News.

I see. At least nobody will be getting fired from it anyway.

It astounds me how even now Nintendo and Sakurai seem to not care about protecting their data. Not acknowledging it won't make it go away....

The only have themselves to blame.

Does this stop or detour anyone from purchasing the characters?

Sakurai: "I didn't give DLC characters custom moves because I am a cheese eating monkey. Also Ridley and Ice Climbers fans suck!"

Sakurai: We are now introducing something that never happened before in Smash Brothers, Assist Trophies DLC! And the first one up is Isaac!

Come on, let's be a little bit more optimistic here!
If you notice, the fact we have Classic mode videos for these two characters already done probably means we will get them pretty soon.
This increases the chances of more characters being already in the works than we expected initially.
After this, I wouldn't be surprised if we got at least three more characters before the Ballot Fighters are worked on!? o.0'
(Including Wolf, of course...)

But the question is, could we SHOULD we expect Isaac as one of those "possible 3" characters before ballot (effectively 2 after :wolf:).

While I doubt :squirtle: & :ivysaur: have the pull to bring them in as DLC, :popo:&:snake: have issues that keep them out, and lastly :pichumelee::pichumelee:&:younglinkmelee: serve almost no role...

Golden Sun hasn't gotten any new content which means it may have been under Sakurai's radar without the ballot. We don't have so much as a trophy for Matthew.

I can totally see an Assist Trophy DLC pack giving us Isaac, Ray MK2, Drill Dozer etc.
Don't say that, because it's actually too realistic.

I hope not, though. I think Sakurai and the crew understand that Assist Trophies are not what we want.

Even if Golden Sun and Isaac aren't one of the chosen ones before the ballot, that will hopefully get other characters out of the way, still increasing his chances to be in the game at some point!?
I actually would expect them to make a Rhythm Heaven character before the ballot, Sakurai has expressed interest on it multiple times before.
But Isaac is still a strong contender in my opinion, before or after ballot DLC.
