"Deserve" has become such a dirty word to Smash fans...
It's not like Pac-Man or Sonic are unanimously agreed to be good fits either, anyway.
While I don't know about Quote, Shantae's history is almost exclusively tied to Nintendo and people love those games, so...it's not really some sort of sin if she gets into Smash.
As for Shovel Knight, I think you're kinda downplaying how popular that game is now.

From 1999 to 2004, the game (Cave Story) was made by a single guy in his spare time. It was a passion project meant to have the look and feel of retro action explorers, with Metroid as the main listing.

The game, for its very humble start and being from a time where such small indie games were even less impactful than they are now, became a smash hit. Between the cute functional art style, great music and writing, and solid gameplay it gained such a massive following to get a full fledged fan translation. Sound similar to ?

Eventually, the game got enough funding for Daisuke to work with the indie development team Nicalis to help make an enhanced port with new game modes and I think the first official english translation on the DSiWare in 2009.

This port, with a couple other tweaks, got moved to Steam as "Cave Story +" and was later moved to Wiiware as well.

And ultimately, the title saw a massive graphical upgrade with even more expansion added to it when Nippon Ichi Studios (NIS) joined in on the efforts to make Cave Story 3D, which remains as a Nintendo 3DS exclusive.

Edit: Also the worst score any version of the game got by a major reviewing service was an 8/10.... that's kinda saying something for how much of an underdog it was.

Legacy isn't everything. I mean look at Greninja. What legacy has he left on Nintendo's history besides being a fairly popular starter Pokemon. Nothing. In my opinion, he didn't even deserve to be in (Meowth deserves it more). Just because Quote, Shantae, and Shovel Knight aren't AAA series made by huge companies doesn't mean they aren't worth mentioning for 3rd party reps.

There's a difference in 1st and 3rd Party credentials needed to get in.

But is a leap in difference than Shantae, who you scorned? A game that many tie to the defining for Stealth in a very gritty world who largely discarded Nintendo as a console base and being synonymous with Sony, a direct competitor in comparison to a 3rd partyseries that started at and always goes to Nintendo first with two cases of delayed PC ports with a very Smash-compatable feel with a company that puts every passion project on Nintendo?

So yes, because Greninja is a Nintendo character, he doesn't need to have as strong a resume as Shantae or Shovel Knight. Sakurai has even said that non-Nintendo characters need to have a legacy and have very high requirements that need to e fulfilled. Now, try and even tell me how Shantae is even REMOTELY similar to the likes of Pac-Man, Sonic, or MegaMan.

Pokeman's point was how Greninja had no legacy and you said it's alright because he's a Nintendo character. Shantae's owned by a company that's always sticked with Nintendo, Wayforward has outright said they love working for them and have made most of their stuff available to Nintendo, Shantae is to Japan what Earthbound is to us

My only hope with Ryu is that it means Nintendo is getting Megaman, which means Zero might become Nintendo property, which means he might get in as DLC... Probably by 2017. Otherwise, I don't agree with Capcom having 2 reps while Namco (who helped develop the game) and Sega get stuck with only 1 character.

Capcom have more iconic IPs under it. I still wouldn't have minded Phoenix Wright over Ryu.

Tekken and Soul Calibur are even worse off than Solid Snake, though. Tekken has one handheld game that's not even a main game, and Soul Calibur's only advantage is SCII. And Digimon is kinda irrelevant what with Nintendo already having Pokemon.


That's why for a second Namco I tend to go with Tales instead, because at least a decent number of the games are on Nintendo consoles and is a fairly popular, long-running franchise.

I think the only reason Ryu is in is either Nintendo managed to buy the Mega Man IP, or they're producing a Nintendo and Capcom crossover.

To be fair, there's several choices for Isaac's Final Smash: Judgment is mine, and is a popular one. The 2nd is Ragnarok (sometimes Odyssey), but I feel like it's not impressive enough to be a FS: In Golden Sun you can spam it every turn. You can't do the same with Judgment. The 3rd choice that I keep seeing is Megiddo, and I think it's the same thing for Ragnarok: You can spam it and moreover, it's luck based, even if you can make the odds almost perfect with the good gear.

Finally, imo, "an angelic knight in full armor and horned helmet, firing an atomic blast with a lion-shaped cannon in place of a hand" sounds a little bit more awesome. Just a little bit.

As a side note about Smashified, I'll just say I'm once again disappointed: Sure Splatoon is a good game, but they're contradicting themselves and made the Inklings just to gather more followers when these characters don't need it at all.

My highest want is Catastrophe as well. Mostly because it's the single best piece of sprite work I've ever seen. Seriously, that summon's sprite is just GORGEOUS.

However, I really don't think anything has a chance at being his Final Smash except Judgment. It just doesn't work. Ragnarok, Odyssey, and Megiddo are all powerful attacks, sure. But if you're playing Golden Sun, they're just attacks. The summons aren't. They are essentially Final Smashes already. Incredibly powerful attacks that change up the game and can only be used when certain conditions are met. I don't think there are really any fans who would deny this. And Judgment, being the most powerful Venus summon in the original game (and one of the best looking in that game) has iconic status within the Golden Sun fan base and is inextricably linked to Isaac just for sharing his element.

Really, while Isaac has an incredibly huge moveset potential, I don't think he can have any Final Smash but Judgment.

What's up, its been awhile since I've posted anything on here so I thought I might as well today. I finally beat the original Golden Sun like a week or two ago and enjoyed it a lot my only real complaint is that the overworld map looks pretty much the same regardless of where you are minus some landmarks but it is the GBA so. so now I m going to try and beat Lost Age. I was actually going to start it two days ago but after typing in the ridiculously long password to transfer your stuff over from the original game I accidentally hit the off switch before getting to a save point....

I don't see Crystallux as Isaac's FS, but now that you mention it, it would make a perfect Assist Trophy.
