I don't think Sakurai really cares about Golden Sun. It being 2nd party and not being say as huge as Pokemon.
I wouldn't say that he doesn't care about it, just that he isn't too familiar with it. He did admit that working on Smash means he can't play as much games as he would ordinarily.

Well we already see how familiar he is with the Metroid series regarding Ridley. Which isn't saying much.

Yeah, there is that, but I wouldn't call it willful malice on his part.

For all we know, Sakurai could be a profound Golden Sun fan, and he just hasn't had the chance to include as much content as he would like to.

Not just regarding Ridely dude. We literally have samus twice! Two games in a row! Are there really no other good reps from the metroid series that would be able to fit in smash??

He isn't. Or at least wasn't back in the brawl era. If he is a profound fan now and likes the series for what it is, we'd definitely see isaac playable(:

Ehh that's debatable. Ridley and Dark Samus are the only recurring characters that would really work in such a context. There are the hunters from, well, Hunters and Samus's allies from Prime 3, but they have yet to reappear, interesting as they may be. Otherwise we're looking at Adam Malkovich and Anthony Higgs, or possibly a Metroid or Zebesian, at that.

This isn't really the thread for that, though, so I'll drop it after this.

Hypothetical statement. Sakurai does take into consideration other things above and beyond what he likes, in spite of what others may proclaim, and his criteria is quite extensive and well-intended, I reckon. I agree, though, there's no real reason why Isaac shouldn't be playable.

Well, I can't see Isaac and Matthew, unless you mean 38 year old Isaac and Young Matthew of course. Otherwise then I can see 17 year old Isaac with either Garet or Ivan.... Or both with him(:
Why not? It would be like having Olimar and Alph. It's not like we got Olimar and Louie or Alph and Charlie.

It would be the most recent protagonist and the most well-known and popular character in the series who function in virtually the same manner and look almost identical. It's win-win.

True, but why do you think he feels the way he does about Golden Sun, considering the (lack of) treatment the franchise has?
Before I can guess at why he feels the way he does about Golden Sun I'd first have to know how he feels about Golden Sun. On the surface it appears he thinks it's not really worth giving much content, but that's certainly not the same as actually knowing his feelings. It's just guessing, we'll never know the full story.

I can't imagine being a JRPG has anything to do with how much or how little content it gets. There are many JRPGs in Smash, some get several characters, some get a character, some get ATs, and some get very little.

Well... even so. I don't like what he's doing to GS in terms of teasing. What I mean, is he teased us with a great AT (Issac) , and Song back in brawl. And he is teasing us even more so with the fact that the GS content in SSB4, is a recycled song from brawl on Norfair (again) then another song from DD on Palutena's Temple. That doesn't make any sense, to me..

I'm not familiar with the work of Pikmin, so i don't really get what your saying. Young Isaac is still the face of GS so it would make sense for him to be fist in -line for DLC. But if he likes DD more and wants to keep it relevant, then he'll just add Matthew. So, I just think, it really could go either way. What do you think?

It seems more logical to me to see Young Isaac as the "main" character (and Matthew as the alt if there's one), because Isaac was in Brawl as an AT. Even if they look alike, people who don't know Golden Sun would remember him more.

Well I unlocked the Weyard track. It isn't the track I would add in a beat em up but I'll take what I can get. What does a Adept have to do to get a legit Saturos Battle Track in Smash Bros. :/

Make Sakurai play Golden Sun till he loves it. Then open the gates to Sakurai bias :p

It is a little weird for them to not use Isaac's brawl model as a trophy at least. The two songs are there, and a good majority of songs in the game have some sort of extra representation in at least one of the two versions of the game.
I guess Golden's theory of Isaac not appearing because of his heavy design change might actually be true.

I disagree. Nearly 25% of the roster comes from JRPGs, including the second and fourth most represented series. Just because Lucas was cut and GS ignored doesn't mean Sakurai has it out for the genre. Mother and Xenoblade aren't huge series, them getting a single character each makes sense, and honestly they're fortunate to get that.

I mean he did add four new characters from RPG series this time, I don't think we can say he's got a bias against it.

Considering he's done platformers, fighters, party games, puzzle games, racers, and rail-shooter/third-person shooters, it's not like he's limited in the genres he knows how to make. The last few Smash games have had RPG elements anyway.
Not saying he has got a bias against RPGs. I just don't think Pokemon or Fire Emblem would really fit in conventional JRPG territory.

If Sakurai does help out in a GS4, I wouldn't mind as long as the game is awesome. Plus as a plus point, in time for Smash 5 we will be here discussing the seemingly excessive Golden Sun representation in the game :p (Yay!)

I'd rather Monolithsoft help out with GS4. I'd like to build the game lore even deeper then what it is. With Sakurai you might get a few quirky new characters but as for the game lore? It won't be explored. And I notice a lot of RPG's build up the concept of a world/continent you traverse but never act on giving it more depth then what it needs at minimum.

And even in Dark Dawn this was a problem. It introduced the Eclipse and it quickly turned into a one and done and was never elaborated on. Only real gravity you got out of that situation is mindreading people. You know what people too.

It was very distressing how little Mind Reading you got to do in Dark Dawn. It's a point that often gets missed, but you don't unlock the ability until the final evil Point Of No Return. It makes you miss out on so much lore, backstory, and characterization that you got in the first two games.

Well Mind reading technically isn't in Dark Dawn. It's actually a Heart Read skill that only Sveta has. So lots of missed opportunities.

Hopefully, if Golden Sun 4 is made, they'll acknowledge the history of the Grave Eclipse with a special "lore" section. But, if you are gonna have these elements, there should be mentions of it from start to finish, not from random point to finish, or from start to ignoring it to randomly putting it in the finish.

Yeah, what I just said both makes sense and doesn't make any sense.

If anyone should, and would, help out with GS4, it'd probably be Monolith. Keep in mind, Chronicles X is releasing this year worldwide, and Monolith is helping out everywhere in Nintendo. I can easily see them add some development to GS4, then work on it full-time with Camelot after X releases in Japan.

They did help Alpha Dream with the Giant Luigi battles in "Dream Team", and are credited. I think they would have no problems lending Camelot a hand in producing either the overworld or the combat mechanisms.

Yea the mind reading thing was a thing that I missed the most. Reading everyone's mind, some people being funny, some quirky and some just plain annoying. It added more personality to the game.

Yea Monolith Soft has helped Nintendo in various aspects of games. From The Link Between Worlds to Pikmin 3 to Animal Crossing and whatnot.

Plus it would be amazing if GS4 became the next big Nintendo RPG project after Xenoblade Chronicles X. Jointly developed by Camelot, Monolith Soft and Nintendo would be awesome!

I wouldn't particularly like Sakurai taking on GS4, we don't need a Dark Isaac, do we?
Jokes aside, I think Golden Sun should stay in Camelot's capable hands. They have a working formula that's loved by many people, I don't think it's necessary to change anything, is it?
Then again, I'd like if they went back a step to the more basic design choices of the first two games. We have seen what happens if you try too much in Dark Dawn, which had some problems fitting in with the rest of the games when it comes to the overall lore and world of Weyard with big and bad civilizations emerging from god knows where and whatnot.
Just.. don't add Points of no Return and we're basically set, am I right?

The only reason we'd want people other than Camelot to help on the game is to make it better and allow for a higher-quality experience. Camelot isn't big enough (at this point in time) to make an HD game. I'd want Camelot to do the game themselves, but with a bit of help so the game could be bigger overall and won't take four years to develop.

I can still see that Sakurai taking on GS4 joke created a big argument. Well, all I want for GS4 I want it to be developed by Camelot and to have the same characteristics that GS1 and GS2 had (and for the love off god, I hope it doesn't have points of no return). I wouldn't mind other companies to help, however, the ideas for storyline, playability, characters, maps, dungeons, puzzles, etc. should all be made by Camelot and the other companies could help to make those ideas come true.

Also, if Sakurai would make GS4 storyline, we would have Dark Isaac and Jenna/Mia with a pole-staff dancing as their side taunt.

I actually liked Amiti.

Also, anyone else wants GS4 to have a warrior Wind Adept to wield Excalibur?
A fighter class Jupiter Adept would be great. Although another Sveta type thing would be good too. But you know what I want in GS4? Playable Proxian. The Half Orc or Draconian of Weyard.

I loved the Mario & Luigi games (even though I've only play BiS :p). So them alone will get me into the game.

The best mind reading in gaming would have to go to Mallow's Psychopath because of the enemies' silly thoughts.

Right now, I'm about done with The Lost Age.

Well, to be honest, I've done just about everything I can in the game, including defeating Dullahan using a strategy I learned from my old guide about spamming summons and hoping for the best.

Of course, I have bigger fish to fry as I feel like I'm gonna have to fix my BIOS. If that doesn't work, maybe I'll have to get a new computer.

What if Isaac is a clone of Robin?

Both are swordsman that can use magic...I know it's unlikely and it would be lame as hell, but after Falcon -> Ganondorf I don't put anything past Sakurai.

Oh god his Final Smash will be the same as Robin's but he will team up with Felix!!!

I absolutely loved reading minds. It was a really nice touch when you could see a little more how the characters lived. When I first got the ability I was like a kid in a candy shop.

You know, I was relatively confident that we were going to get proper answers about Isaac (and where Golden Sun stood) for better or worse once the Wii U version came out but of course we're still not much better off. When we actually get a concrete answer we won't know what to do with ourselves....

Do actually get items at certain points of the game by using the mind-reading feature?
In the Lost Age, this is necessary in order to visit the Islet Cave, because you do a trading sequence with animals, and the only way to talk to animals is through Mind Read. So, this element is involved.
