I just realized something rather unsettleing. Except for the Villager (which technically does not count) we haven't gotten a single rep from the gba/gamecube era yet! How do you think that affects Isaac's chances?
You know, you might be onto something there. Lucas, in a way, represented the Mother series on the GBA. There hasn't been any indication or hint on that series at all yet either. I wonder if Isaac will be with Ness and Lucas in a trailer like someone else said in this thread.

And those that think that the GBA isn't retro yet, I beg to differ. It's now on the Virtual Console now which in a way makes it retro. Of course, there are other reasons why it can be considered retro.

Better idea: Since Melee, every Smash Bros. game has had one fighter who originated on the GBA. This fighter has changed each time.

First we had Roy, representing Fire Emblem, and who originated on Fire Emblem: Fuuin no Tsurugi for the GBA.

Then we had Lucas, representing Mother, and who originated on Mother 3 for the GBA.

So according to the pattern, Lucas will be cut, and we need a new GBA representative to take his place!

Of course, also according to that pattern, it would be a character who originated on the GBA, but not from a series that originated on the GBA. The character would also be a clone of other characters...

Haha! It would be funny if Isaac's whole psynergy repertoire consisted of the "Master" hand psynergies. Catch, lift, move, force, carry!
Also scoop, pound and lash!

Catch!

Force!

Lift!

Move!

Carry!

Scoop!

Pound!

And Lash!

I can actually see most of them working :D

Carry and LIft are too similar, they'd have to be move customizations or smash variations. Though either could work as recovery, I guess.

Lash I think actually might have a bit more utility. It's described when you get it as being able to "lift and move very light objects". Sure, we only see it being used on ropes, but it could potentially be used on items as well. Either way, I'd see it as similar to Catch, probably a move customization or smash variant for it.

Scoop could be a grab. You lift someone up, and they have a few seconds of helplessness where you can move with them before they fall through the fingers. Can you get them over a pit before watching them drop to their doom? Huge trolling potential.

Pound smashes someone into the ground, and catches them in the earth like the Villager's dig move.

Move has already been shown.

Force is a long range, powerful smash attack.

Y'know, it just occurs to me, when Eoleo is a child, he uses Catch to steal the key to the prison cell. But he can't use it when he grows up. What happened?

Well but it is possible to make a workable moveset around his utility psynergies :p Not that I want that set, I want something legendary! Another thought, what if they excluded Isaac from Brawl cause they weren't able to do that character justice with his awesome psynergy moves.

Golden Sun, how I see it, has a few loopholes or story inconsistencies from 2nd game onwards. Sheba also uses some mysterious psynergy to find whether Isaac and friends have the Shaman's rod from far away but that never makes an appearance in the 2nd game. There might be a few cases elsewhere but then some of them are understandable.

That is why first game is best!

This is where I point to the GBA stage and say "Isaac confirmed?"
There is no GBA stage, but who knows, maybe in the future. I am just waiting for a GS stage so I can say Isaac confirmed. And Golden Sun 4 confirmed :D

A Utility only set would be broken. Because it would work like the Assist Trophy. Isaac could cause no damage, but he'd have absolutely unblockable moves that put you in really hard to recover from positions.

I thought that was supposed to be Mind Read, though how she did it from that far away is kind of questionable.

Also, second game, if only because you can have Jenna and Isaac fighting together. Plus, it has more Djinn, including some of my favorites (Geode FTW!).

According to patterns seen in SSB, Ike shouldn't be back, so patterns are pretty much not too trust worthy.

Haha because Jenna and Isaac are fighting together. TLA was amazing as it expanded on many aspects of Golden Sun. I loved the introduction of the multi Djinn summon, it really made Summoning much more cooler and fun! Pllus all the new weapons and upgrades to classes. Although I would have loved to control Isaac's party for a while before they join up with Felix's party. Only the intro of TLA was a bit boring, before you join up with Piers.

Yea but that far range mind reading wasn't there in the next game. Plus hints are given that Sheba has used pre-cognizant powers before but not shown in the 2nd game either. And I missed Isaac's ship and it would have been awesome if we had gotten newer dialogues if we had visited a previous area after the reunion. The last point might be due to technological limitations, after all the GBA is pretty old

There's no GBA stage, only a game boy stage...
Close enough.

I don't understand how two games make a pattern.

So, my friend said Isaac would be a Robin clone if he got in. The discussion we had made me realize made me realize that wouldn't really work. Even the tome mechanic doesn't make much sense if you think about the fact Zelda doesn't have to worry about a magic meter. Plus, the closest thing to thunder magic is plasma, and that's not even part of Isaac's main element. Nosferatu doesn't have any counterpart.

I don't think that counts as a 'pattern'. The 'pattern' of which you see can be chalked up to mere coincidence, and to be honest, it just doesn't seem like something that would become a pattern.

And you all calling the GBA 'retro'... Seriously, I started high school when the GBA was still the most current Nintendo handheld. You all are making me feel old. T_T

This means you actually got to grow up as a kid in the golden age of the SNES and it's fantastic RPGs. Let those young'uns scoff, but they never got to experience Chrono Trigger when they were a child, now did they? They were stuck with things like Final Fantasy XIII.

It is retro now, sorry. Disappointing to me as well, but it's true.

Yea, so true. Chrono Trigger, Golden Sun all these games are epic! And so many of my friends are just after graphics and modern games. My mission to convert them into loving games like Golden Sun and Chrono Trigger is still underway. My friend was much more interested in getting Final Fantasy XIII rather than Final Fantasy VI, VII or Chrono Trigger. I still think that he was unable to finish Golden Sun!

Isaac for Smash will really encourage people to pick up the VC releases of Golden Sun and if a remake ever comes out, those too!

I would buy almost anything Golden Sun, just give me a new GS game! A great one!

Oops, accidental double post.

Well guess I will place this here:

Art by Chizuri on deviantArt.

Isaac and Felix in action. Would be cool if they both are announced, Isaac as the main reveal and Felix as a semi-clone like some people wanted.

So... What exactly qualifies as retro now? I thought it was only up to N64, but it now includes GBA too?

Considering how I'm going to get Golden Sun on the eShop by the end of next week if I get money for my birthday tomorrow so I don't have to keep finding that DS Lite, I agree.

Plus, given that they want amiibo to work with as many games as possible, that would mean that Golden Sun 4 would be more likely to feature Isaac as a main, so they could use the amiibo functionality for him. Yay!

You just made my day with that revelation :D

Well Isaac's inclusion in Smash guarantees him a major role in Golden Sun 4, most likely main character. Considering he is missing by the end of Dark Dawn and his future mission is implied in the game.

Golden Sun 4 with Isaac amiibo functionality! After we get him in Smash 4!

Oh...My...Gosh!!! I would buy that in a heartbeat! Along with a Sonic and Link Amiibo. My "potential" 3 main group! I'm freaking out now how amazing that would be!

What other 2 characters would you group up with Isaac? (Basically, your mains.)

I'm going to say it doesn't affect his chances. The characters are chosen to represent the best games Nintendo has produced over the years (of which Golden Sun is one), and because of their novelty in a fighting game environment.

I really don't think that the era a character debuted in factors into their chances at all.

Link and Ike or Villager. It'll depend on which of the latter two I end up maining.

If he gets in how tall do you think isaac's playable model would be? I was thinking about Falco's height maybe a bit taller.

I was thinking of him being around Marth's height probably. In Golden Sun he is shorter than Garet and Felix and around the same height is Piers. Not exactly known for his height but his speed and Venus adept awesomeness.

Isaac & Medusa Amiibos would be the first two I'd buy, if only for the sake of the figurines.

I was in middle school when the GBA started its stride.

Both games are great, although I don't go back to Chrono Trigger a lot compared to Golden Sun. Just be careful with this because you don't want to end up with a case of "hype backlash", although I think they will appreciate the effort and what they provide. Though I do agree that graphics don't make the game, and I prefer portable RPGs over home console ones. I just feel that portable systems are perfect for RPGs while home console RPGs just sorta drag on and on.

Since Melee, every new franchise added included a villain rep when the franchise topped three characters. Except when Fire Emblem top 3 characters in this game and we got two heroes.

Since Melee, Fire Emblem has had two reps, the newest main Lord and Marth, the first main Lord of the series. Until this game where they didn't add the newest main Lord of the series and added two characters on top of that.

Also, GS would represent the GBA as a whole since it'd be the first franchise to originate on the GBA.

To be fair, almost all of the villains in Fire Emblem are all dead by the end of the game.

So, how nerfed do you think Isaac's Move psynergy will be?

Well if Palutena's similar move is any indication, it will at least be around the same size. It's range will probably be halved though.

More like a single shunt rather than continuous pushing.
