As far as the snowstorms/blizzards are considered here's what i've gathered

Ames - Less than an inch tonight, 2-4 inches tomorrow, 4-6 inches tomorrow night
Des Moines - An inch tonight, 3-5 tomorrow, 5-8 tomorrow night.
ANd winds up to 40 mph, so enjoy death if you're out driving and stuff.
