The drama involving the creators of one of the biggest franchises in gaming continues as Jason West and Vince Zampella, the fired former lead creators of Modern Warfare 2, have formed a new company, Respawn Entertainment. EA, their formal rival, is backing.

The Monday morning news announcing the new company follows a Friday that saw Activision, the mega-publisher that fired Jason West and Vince Zampella from their leadership positions at Modern Warfare development studio Infinity Ward, suing the ousted creators. Activision has accused the duo of misdeeds and subterfuge designed as an alleged attempt to "steal the studio."West and Zampella had sued Activison a month prior following their dismissal from their perches atop Activision-owned Infinity Ward.

But today the two creators are announcing a new company and an exclusive publishing deal with Activision rival Electronic Arts. The new company, based in Encino, California, will make games for the EA Partners label, an arrangement that means it will remain an independent company from EA. West and Zampella's former studio, Infinity Ward, remains wholly owned by Activision.
I think we can all breath easy now that West and Zampella found a new home, and one that might treat them right. It was kinda obvious that they we're going to hook up with EA.

And those wondering how EA is going to be different from Activision, EAis a partner of Respawn. They don't own the studio, but have the rights to only publish their games.

Do you think West and Zampella made the right choice? How long do you think this will last? Will History repeat its self in 10 years time?

Discuss.

Myself, along with just about everyone else following the story were totally expecting this.

I'm interested to see what they'll produce in their new home.

Yes, they did. Activision is a terrible game company. It will last longer than Infinity Ward. Nope, cause they'll actually own their own IPs this time.

I hope that everyone who's leaving IW joins RE.

Now what a way to spite your former supporter. This situtation reminds me of what happened to Ensemble Studios. I wonder what games that RE will start producing now.

EA love just churning out "blah blah blah 06 07 08 09 10" you get my drift.

Although they did create James Pond....which was epic.

As long as they make some great games and not just "Copy Paste 2010" they should do well.

I hope you're right. Maybe they can actually make the MoH series good again.

Mirror's Edge, Dragon Age: Origins, and Mass Effect aren't rehashes. In fact, Electronic Arts has been publishing new intellectual properties as of recently because that's what gamers want. Meanwhile, Activision isn't trying anything new and is spawning sequel after sequel, each new installment of a series having little to no differences from the last. Electronic Arts has really redeemed itself over the last couple of years, and with the Mass Effect, Dragon Age, and Mirror's Edge properties getting sequels and expansions with actual refinements and changes, it goes to show that they actually care more about their consumer base than Activision. Whether anyone would care to admit it or not, E.A. isn't worthy of hate anymore.

Holy **** this looks weird quoting. And that's your opinion, like Bad Company 2. Simple EA game that was nearly the same as it's first.

Just like how every Call of Duty and Guitar Hero game have been basically the same since their first installments. Considering there are now eight games in the Guitar Hero franchise, and Call of Duty is hitting its seventh after four World War II shooters, I'd suggest you re-examine your rehash argument. Activision is no less guilty of it than Electronic Arts is with its sports games.

I'm not dissing EA, I'm just saying I never liked what they've done, really. Granted, I'll never buy an Activision game again considering IW is gone, but EA has had it's ups and downs as well.

Yeah, I know. I wasn't replying to your post. I was just saying how the situation reminded me of what happened between Ensemble Studios and Microsoft. They were effectively shut down, and most of the former employees formed two new studios.

All EA does is consume other's products, digest them, than turn them into excrement.

It seems EA can publish a good game as long as it isn't made by a company they've consumed.

However, look what they did to Maxis and Westwood...

Edit: My goodness it seems Bioware IS directly a part of EA, maybe they only like ****ing over other companies after they buy their products?
