I actually meant to say "You would......".
It was referring to the increased gravity. A joke saying that it would compact you down and you would come out smaller.
A black hole would actually stretch you out and make you longer, since the part of you that's closer to the black hole would experience a greater acceleration towards to hole's center than the part of you that's further away.

It would stretch you coming into the black hole but at the center where gravity is greatest you would not get stretch but compacted due to the increased gravity.
There's also speculation of white holes. In which case you would just get thrown out the other side once you get to the center.

lol, its more likely that the molecules on the part of your body closest would be ripped off due to the absurd increase in acceleration.

Imagine one of those pieces of paper that burn almost instantly, and that's what an object entering a black hole might look like, except the molecules are heavily accelerated and ripped off instead of burning.

If you can somehow manage to travel the speed of light entering a blackhole, you cannot be accelerated, so that i suppose might work (however, the rotation of a black hole would screw up even that).

At OP, almost all religious people obviously want eternal life, right? That is the main reason a lot of people are religious.

In my experience I feel it is more or less they want to avoid going to hell for all eternity.
I suppose going to hell for all eternity is immortality too, although I suspect few would regard it as life.

Either way, sitting up in heaven for all eternity sounds like hell to me. I would rather be immortal on earth, its rather "exciting" here.

Then why believe specifically in a religion that even has the concept of eternal hell?
Look, that is starting a religious debate and I am not going to get into that.
However, that is a good question and one that I put some thought into. So here is my most un-argumentative response. Please do not respond in a way that will trigger a debate.

Well I first said "they" and not "I". I do not have my faith from fear, I have my faith through my stubbornness. Faith itself is not stubborn, but I hold onto it through being stubborn.
You asked why one would believe in eternal damnation. My question is if you are religious why not believe in eternal damnation. That without going into detail sounds as outrageous as saying "it is stupid to think we came from slimy salamanders in a pond". Both sound absurd until a full explanation is given.

wassup SL what'r u doing in ohio, lol? having a blast I bet ;)

ot: I would say it depends. On one hand it could be great. You could spend centuries bettering yourself, exploring the world, and eventually the galaxy if that's humans' fate.

On a much darker note, there's the possibility that not 5 years from becoming immortal a great plague wipes out all humanity leaving yourself alone on Earth to ... just exist in solitude. This would suck, lol. A definite curse.

So yeah, not knowing how things will turn out makes it a very risky choice if presented with the option. I'd say if this were some sort of wish to be granted, that I'd definitely say "yeah, I'd like to be immortal, but I'd like to reserve the ability to change my mind and become mortal should things get crappy."

For me, it really depends on what you do.

If you happen to inlfluence the world in ways that could not have been accomplished within a normal lifespan, it's certainly worth it.

However, if you don't have anything planned/ haven't succeeded in anything, then you could think about things that you mentioned as things that would make it a curse, eventually becoming too depressed to do anything (or something along those lines)

Basically, it all depends if you have things planned that could take your mind off of all the cons.

And jumping through a black hole would be boring after around the 1000th time

Thats exactly right. Immortality is illogical because you can always have a atom bomb dropped on you. If I could choose my death, in this way for example, that would be great. I could get the best of both.

The hypothetical is just weird because it can never happen. You can always "die"

I wouldn't mind being immortal but it varies on what rules we are using but if I did have immortality, I'll use to help the world and gain knowledge and sooner or later rule the world hahahahaha.

But I mean if you wanted to rebel, what would stop you? In this life, if you rebel against morality, sickness for example. will stop that. Its a difficult moral dilemma because one side isnt enforced whereas the other is.

I would definitely love to be immortal. Though I suspect I would eventually become insane from crushing despair.

The technology will probably exist eventually. I think I heard somewhere that people are working on transferring the human consciousness into a computer-type thing (it seems possible to build a "brain" out of circuits/wires/etc). I for one don't doubt it's possible, but I do doubt it will be done within my lifetime.
Lol it'll be like Ghost in the Shell.

The Future.
Goddammit! Beat me to it a whole month in advance. T-T
