1) Proper spacing.
2) Prediction.
3) Using it as a method of interception.
4) Understanding that the hitbox of it is longer than its animation.
5) Proper set ups. If they know you're just going to walk forwards at them and F-Tilt, they'll perfect shield, spot dodge, or punish if they are any good.
6) If they are rolling, just do the first segment of the F-Tilt, and then turn around and punish. O.o

If they're doing that, you're getting predictable. Mix it up with A combo, full hop nair, SH dair, bair, etc.

I literally lol'd when i read "why do I keep missing?"

Have you tried hitting where you think "There's no way I can ****ing hit them with this at this distance!"? That's usually where I aim when i use it.

Camp with grenades and space F-tilt.

Seriously though, if you are used to moves like rob's d-smash that covers both sides, then rolls will get to you. Just turn around and punish if you notice that they roll when you walk at them.
