I posted this in the OTL thread first, but I thought this cool story deserved a blog. It's mostly venting.

I've just tried playing Pokémon Platinum for the first time (first time expierence with 4th gen).
Here's my story.

So I start up the game and I see a Giratina, which already made me lol a little bit. I just clicked something and some old dude popped up (it reminded me of gentleman Walter from Ruby/Sapphire, you know who I mean) who repeated Professor Oaks verse about Pokémon. I skipped trough it and had a lot of trouble clicking the middle button of the pokéball. I was very so unamused. I saw a prevolution of Buneary (I think it's Lopunny) pop out. So I continue my adventure and be a girl for the lulz, entering no name, making the game pick a name for me. Kelli. I was alright with that name, untill a douchy ****** showed up with japanese huge hair. I knew I would hate his guts. His name was Diamond.

So I started playing the actual game, and as soon as I went downstairs and mom started talking, I knew what would happen. The game would explain EVERYTHING. They told me to go visit my rival and I said **** you and went to the grass. Untill I was stopped by a douchebag who sent me to the other douchebag's house. I was about to enter when I see this girl walk out and say thud. I realize this is Diamond and I skip trough anything he has to say and he ran off. I knew he was even more hyperactive than your 3rd gen rival. I go to the grass and see this douche again. After walking for 2 seconds, another scene starts which contains 2 minutes of me just holding B and rapidly clicking A. Out of nowhere the old man pops up and his slave brings the suitcase, which would eventually bring forth my Chimchar, which was the only logical choice. All the starters looked equally stupid, so it's only logical I took the fire starter. I started battling his 4th gen Mudkip and it took ages because he was a Growl-*** and I did about 2 damage with a scratch. I won.

He told me to go to the lake and I went right. Douchebag told me to go left. So now we were to a lake where this closet-homo Cyrus is mumbling about the space expanding and remembering the name. I wish I didn't have to witness this scene. Apparently he forgot the Pokéballs and made me go to a city. Now I walk into the grass and hear a horrible battle music play. A shadow appears and slides across the screen. Without looking at it's name, I knew this was a Bidoof. It appeared to be horrible. It was a mixture of the 3 previous early-game-losers (Rattata, the most awesome one, Sentret, the pretty cool one, and Zigzagoon, the meh one) and it looked horrible. It had an unexplainable expression on it's face and made me to the inside. I Scratched it 3 times and continued my journey to the next city. I entered and an alright music started playing. Then the douchebag walked out of the lab and I was happy to see him for the last time.

I entered the laboratorium and the professor started preaching about the pokemon being happy with me and eventually gave me TM27, which I knew was Return. This was really typical. I saw his slave stand outside and he toured me around. It was interesting to learn that a RED rooftop meant Pokémon Center and a BLUE rooftop meant Pokémon Market. I entered the market, bought 10 pokéballs, returned to home, skipping as much grass as I could. I got a parcel and running boots (thank god, the game is so slow, but not good, like Red was) and went off to the city again. I ran trough it and went up to my first trainer battle (OMFG EPIC). I ***** his level 5 Starly off for free and proceeded to do so with any Bidoof's and other wild Pokémen I saw. I battled a trainer who had some green messed up Kakuna and I would want to have that pokémon. I went to the grass patch right before entering the city and saw a Shinx. I considered catching it, but then I said **** it and closed the game. I will most likely not touch it again. I went to play some pokemon Silver.

So yea, I gave the game a chance, up untill a level 10 Chimchar and I almost made it to the 2nd city from home.

Man I WISH I had some the originals. I would KILL to play Blue Ver. (IE - My favorite edition). But I have Diamond, Pearl, Platinum and a crappy, dead internal battery, Saphire... *sigh* I miss the good ol' days.

Protip: Don't waste your money on Platinum. Diamond and Pearl are cheaper yet offer you the same experience.

I agree, to an extent. Although there isn't a dramatic and better difference between Platinum's 2 predecessors. Platinum DOES offer you more (not a whole lot more) story. A couple of new characters. More areas to explore, yatayatayata. But it nothing really wasting your money on. Pretty much the same old crap. The one upside to this game over D and P would be faster surfing. Lol. >.<

If Platinum's Battle Frontier can't compare to Emerald's Battle Frontier, they're right in saying it's not worth it obviously.

Haven't even got too far into Platinum though. Not sure what to say about your experiences really.
You should try going farther really, at least beat the generation once or something. It actually gets good in the end really 'cause the after game battles and areas are pretty fun.

Oh well though.

The game system annoyed me, I've got quite a clear look at the style/music/pokémon, which what I care about. To hell with the competative side, I want pokemans :(

I actually don't care much about the competitive side either. x.x
I mainly meant the after game NPC battles and the Battle Area. I dunno, those really got my attention, but the main story of the game really bored me to death at least until I got to the Snowpoint or whatever I'm thinking of. After that it kind of went meh again, but it all got better after the Elite Four and stuff.

I actually like the style/pokemon myself. All Pokemon are ugly creatures anyways though. But the music was.. blegh. It's just the story that annoys me really.

I only care about the competitive battling aspect and so I like 4th Generation the most.

Just wait for Soul Silver/Heart Gold bro.

Epic 4th Gen battle system (Physical and Special attacks for all types being the biggest improvement) and the epicness of the Gold/Silver games.

I don't know how Pokemon could be more epic than this.

But, but, he's Barry/Platinum.

At least Platinum is better than Diamond or Pearl. If you think this game makes Pokemon seem slow and boring, play those.

Platinum really doesn't change that much from Diamond and Pearl...

It adds like, extra stuff in the endgame, extra story, more Pokémon available in the Sinnoh Dex. Basically, it adds extra features, but the only thing that actually contributes to making the pre-existing gameplay better is...what, faster swimming?

I mean, you can correct me if you feel I'm missing something essential, but Platinum couldn't have been that much more exciting or I might've actually made it through the game by now. I beat Diamond pretty fully (I beat the E4 and filled the National Dex completely [yes, meaning Arceus too, sue me for using hacks to activate the event which will probably never be released for D/P anyways]), and I beat Pearl 2 19/20 (solo Jigglypuff run, I have training to do before facing the E4) times. If it were different enough I wouldn't have felt too bored by it to head off to Mt. Coronet for the Giratina drama.

4th gen isn't bad, but it's mediocre...it's slow, repetitive, most of the new Pokémon suck, and aside from a few epic battle tunes, the music is pretty generic and non-memorable.

I'd say about 50% of people prefer 4th gen, and most of those who are competent (i.e. not little kids who can't wait to see the next big legendary) prefer it due to competitive advancements -- namely the Physical/Special split.

Basically, if Heart Gold/Soul Silver live up to their hype at all, once they come out, few people are going to care about D/P/Pt.

4th gen is bawse. The game mechanics balanced and fixed so many Pokemon, and it really gave us a nice setup for SS and HG. I've played them via emulator, and let me tell you... best pokemon game yet.

I want to urge you to refrain from talking about emulators/ROMS in my thread, because we know emulators are played to play ROMS, which are basically pirated versions of the game. This is illegal, and I think it's against the rules to discuss (or sometimes even mention you do it) it.

I'm really just gonna wait for HG/SS to come out in Europe, get a DS for it, get maybe some other games on it, and MAYBE a 4th gen Pokémon Game. But I doubt it after having a sort 'trailer play' with it <_<
