How often should a Lucas grab?

I'm still contemplating whether this is a noob question or not... Choose your pick, I'm not saying I'm pro or anything.

Anyway, like the title says, how often should a Lucas grab? I know his grab really isn't that great, and there's of course tons of lag if you miss, but I find comboing with his dthrow and such really helpful in racking damage. Seems I can only pull it off at low %'s.

Tell me this btw. I'm pretty sure Lucas isn't really that good at sheild grab punishing, since it has some lag at the start. Lots of people sheild grab me really quick, and whenever I try it they always hit me first somehow.

His dthrow kills rather well, but to be honest, how often does a Lucas even do that? I can't recall me getting a grab off when the enemy is that defensive at high %. Do you guys do it as a legit, usual kill? I find it easier to smash or even spike kill sometimes.

I really needed to ask this because I'm pretty sure the 3 main problems of my Lucas are this, me using dair and not hitting the 4th hit always, and probably smashing too much for a kill.
If you guys could lead me to a post or add a tiny hint about those things, I'd really appreciate that.

Bleah. I talk too much. Look at the size of this post! @_@

How often should a Lucas grab? Hmm... I'm gonna say NEVA

I rarely use his throws. If you miss, the ending lag is very punishable. :ohwell: I'd rather use tilts at close range.

i use it only at low % and at high %
at low % use dthrow+attack you prefer
around 120% don't try to grab to much, only if your opponent have poor DI and you can use bthrow and follow with edgeguarding
at 140% or more, grab, attack with some pummels and then dthrow for the kill
How to grab? you have to know your opponent's reaction. For example, if they like to shield a lot, you can use jab cancel, like jab+jab+jab cancel+grab. But if your opponent likes to attack between jab, just mix your jabs, you can end the jab combo, use 1 jab then grab or use 2 jabs then grab.
most people are afraid of lucas' usmash, and most Lucas players like to use it while running and the opponent is in the air. Again, you should know what your opponent likes to do, if they fast fall and shield, waiting for the usmash, use a grab, if they attack in the air to stop you, cancel your dash with the shield and then grab and if they land and roll, pivot grab, if they land and spotdodge, use the usmash lol.
lucas shield grab is not good, the best think lucas can do out of shield is the jab combo.
maybe those advices won't work in a really high level, where a pro can chance his playstyle between stocks, but it works angaist average players (it works for me lol)

At low % I always try to go for the grab-dthrow-utilt-pkt-pkt2. I hardly ever get to pkt2, though. You have to be carefull, as it can be easily punished. I mostly use it after I sheild a dash attack.

Hmm. I think it would be slightly stupid to never grab with Lucas, but that's just me. I think his dthrow to utilt, to etc. combo is really helpful.

You guys are right though, Lucas probably shouldn't grab too much. It's of course, very, very painful if you miss.

The jab combo is great. I probably need to do that more.

Only Pivot Grab. Dash opposite direction, c-stick and z button at the same time in the direction you want to grab for instant pivot grabs. Very useful. That's the only way I ever try to grab. Watch some Yoshi players for some ideas of when to use it. Bthrow and Dthrow are the only useful throws. Bthrow sets up for edgeguarding sometimes and Dthrow kills at decent percentage or combos.

F-throw tosses people at a stupidly high trajectory.
U-throw... has a neat animation.

I'm not sure about Lucas cause I don't play him, but I figure he should grab as much as any other character without a CG...it's coincidental.

you should grab in such a way that you never miss because if you never miss, then you aren't grabbing too much, so like, yeah...
