i don't think this is spam, it's just a question. seriously how long do you people think it'll last, i mean melee is getting old to some people, yet there are still a bunch of newbies. and once we find everything (unless we already have) the only thing newbies will be able to do is look at our old posts about whatever and all they'll probably do is discuss strategies for a while. so how long do you guyz think it'll last? i hope a very long time

I just got Melee (and my gamecube for the matter of fact) I want to master the game(not each character of course) and then begin some discussions.

I say that this room will be active for 2-3 more year then it'll start to get a bit dull.

our original smash bros website wasn't very popuplar until almost 2 years after the game was out...

so ya, I'd expect this board to remain fairly populated for at least another year or so.

As optimistic as we all are, I'd have to say even after a period of a month it becomes very difficult to find topics that invigorating. It seems as if threads here run on a cycle that last about the attention span of a newbie: topics spam about best characters, topics then become insightful debates about game mechanics, topics then become rethoric questions about selection and playing style, flood of newbies---&gt;topics become spam about favourite characters, repeat...

Anyone else sense a little of this? I can't believe how hard it must be for someone who has been here a long time see the exact same debates again and again.

I always have been at this board (basically) and I will be until it closes. You guys are great even if I'm reduced to lurking because I post at so many other boards in addition to this one.

^ Holy Crap! Member number SIX! *salutes*

A few more years, then it will probably die, unless, of course, there is a sequel. Wiat a second, it's a video game! Video game companies LOVE to milk things to death...

Well, I've been here for almost as long as the boards have existed. I imagine they'll last for quite some time...SSB 3 will come out and the cycle will continue. Don't be fooled by my member number, I was deleted in the great server crash of march 2001...I'm really member #32, according to the latest research.

Hey spaz, Earthbound still has a HUGE fanbase, and that was released in 1995 I believe. Don't expect SSBM or Smashboards.com to just curl up in a corner and die one day. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" /> Besides, I usually come here for the Pool Room/debate hall and other general content. I read the Melee stuff when I have time, but you all write such large messages I could spend my entire summer here just reading stuff in the Melee forum. :)

This account o mine survived for some reason. I thought it was dead for so long, and too lazy to re-register, I lurked here for aeons.

I don't think that people will run out of topics. Maybe they will for Melee discussion, but people are always going to have problems and they're always going to experience new things in life, so the pool room is safe. Video games aren't going anywhere anytime soon, new titles will continue to flow out to the public, whether they be good or bad, so the light house is ok. People love to show off their works so the fan fiction, artwork emporium, flash studio, forum games, and creative minds are safe. And I doubt people will get tired of arguing anytime soon, so I doubt the debate hall will disapear.
I'd say this place is here to stay. Even though people may stop playing melee and might not want to discuss it anymore one day, I think they'll still come here for many different reasons many times to come.

It'll be around for a while. I came here as a Melee player, I'm sure there will be many other Melee players arriving here over the following years to keep the board alive.

But, as the game is getting older, Melee players around the world will start to deplete in numbers as they lose interest in the game and a new generation of people will be more familiar with Brawl (or the next game).

I'll give it 5-6 Years. By then Something else will have taken people will go on to the next competitive skillful game. However I agree with Flame when I say that game will NOT be Brawl.

the game will only last until the next great fighting game that comes along overtakes it. THAT GAME IS NOT BRAWL. the game would be similar in an aspect to melee in that it would be simple to pickup and play like any other casual game. however, it would also have a competitive edge which would require enormous amounts of practice and skill that is seen in melee. brawl was essentially a sequel that tried to bridge the gap between casual games and skill. this idea essentially failed in that it tried to take away what separated the average from the great.

Holy crap, this thread is awesome. I didn't realize that this wasn't a modern thread, then I saw the post date and people saying "just a couple more years" and now it's 2009.

I don't expect Melee to die too terribly soon. Maybe 2012 it'll become thin spread...

I don't think it will ever stop.

I think over the next four years we're going to see new players emerge in melee and some famous old ones ship out and eventually a new smash will take its place.

The thing is though. Melee, SSB the original, and Brawl are not really great games, what makes them great is playing them against friends, other players, and people competitively.

Its the social experience that makes the game an awesome experience to remember and immortalizes the game.

Some day if Nintendo gets their stuff together and realizes what a gold mine this title could be, they may produce multiple iterations of Smash resurecting old melee physics and brawl physics making it somewhat as large and varied as Street Fighter. That hardly matters though to me.

For me though, this will always and forever be, my favorite game...

Learn to read when this thread was made.

Shame on the seven-year bumper.
