Mementos does not have any notable landmarks, but it does have aesthetic. Bone-laden tracks. Cavernous tunnels with somewhat fleshy walls. Eerie red lights. Roaming hulking shadow beasts with masks. And those weird vein-y splays on the ground. You may not see a landmark, but you know instantly where you are, and it's in a Persona game.
It's not like Smash hasn't done the whole 'No landmark' thing either. Great Cave Offensive, Lylat Cruise, Pokemon Stadium/Pokefloats, All the Donkey Kong stages, and both Animal Crossing stages to name a few
Also, side question. Death (CV) vs The Reaper (Persona). Who wins?

I also think Mementos is pretty plain, or at least it gets repetitive pretty fast. But as far as making a smash level, it can still work. I bet we might even see Morgana ride around as a bus (and maybe fighters can even be hit by it), or something like that.
To be honest, the real concern about Mementos is that, as a subway tunnel, there is an extremely high probability of it being a walk-off, a 'traveling stage' like Spirit tracks, or having a ceiling

Fair enough, but the casino is the first thing you see in the game. You could show about as much as that intro and you would be just fine.
Mementos is kinda boring though. It is unique to Persona 5, but no one would say it's a highlight. Plus, we haven't had locales like a casino or bank in Smash as of yet. I guess the same could be said for a subway, but you get my point.
Plenty of choices like that have already been made in Smash though. Great Bay comes to mind.
I guess, but Mementos suffers from having no identifiable unique locations at all(Unless we go into major spoiler territory).
Fair.
I personally think that Mementos could have been chosen to take advantage of a certain enemy that we all know and fear(Unless it is flu season).
I mean, Mini-Directs are a thing, but the leak that Gaming Intel allegedly copied the homework of suggests it would have Mario Maker 2 as a major focus... Aren't Mini-Directs generally more rapid-fire and not usually prone to spend a large amount of time detailing multiple games?
But obviously Nintendo could switch it up and do whatever they like...
If Joker is part of a larger Direct, part of me hopes they'll bring the voice cast back and have Futaba hack into the direct to detail his moveset instead of Sakurai...
It's a tweet from a rumormill Twitter account which claimed back in March that there would be an April 11th Nintendo Direct featuring Super Mario Maker 2 as the main focus.

The way I see it, Mementos can be a really neat stage,,,IF they do it right. I agree with you on Morgana and the Thieves being in the background or maybe even stage hazards.
I think Mementos will shift from the Metaverse to the real world every now and then. So we might see Shibuya in the background, signifying that it is not real.
Also if memory serves, but did Sakurai say during recording of Joker's lines that "there were some he could not use...a shame." I don't know about y'all, but I think we will be getting a couple of Codec like Easter Eggs in the stage.

Ya there's plenty of potential for enemies showing up on it too. I do like the idea for the shifting to the real world too, tho i dunno if that'll happen. What'll they do with joker's costume if they do? Well, it doesnt all have to make sense, but still ;p
He said something about the voice acting? I havent seen that. I did see that he didn't max out all his social links when he played the game, but that's about it
My hope is we're fighting on top of the Subway Train, with left and right pits for the front and back and a divot in the center, seeing Persona things as the train makes stops. A balanced stage that will be seen in top level play.
This is 1000000% based on wanting to hear P5 soundtracks during tournaments

Sakurai did make a comment about not being able to use all the dialogue they recorded (which I believe was translated as "What a waste"), but I wouldn't read into that as saying that they recorded extra dialogue. I think we can probably take it at face-value and figure that the trailer was originally going to be a bit longer...

Lowkey wish that it was, because I'd have even more of a reason to use Mementos.
Also quick PSA guys: tomorrow is when we can verify whether or not the April 11 Direct rumors are true or not. Did a bit of searching and found a few links worth discussing.
https://twitter.com/muguwus/status/1115746420449898497 - A user on Twitter named Mug has a contrary post, saying that their source claims the next Direct is going to be in the second half of the month (earliest then would be by next week) and is going to heavily feature Persona.
Again, can't be sure of anything, but trying to find out more sources to either corroborate or disprove what INTEL is saying couldn't hurt in the slightest.
Stage Builder is in Smash from an ad they themselves just posted, so yes - Direct being soon is likely now.
for real tho what is up with these companies now and revealing stuff they aren't supposed to reveal is there no such thing as professionalism ffs jk thnks ninty

I saw that, and it's super weird because if the update is getting revealed/releasing towards the end of the month, would they already be using the new version in promotional material? Here's hoping this means the reveal/release are close at hand! A Nintendo Direct on the 11th, for example?
As a side note, the datamine that said Stage Builder would be in also said Home Run Contest was in. Cool! If it's true, then I'm looking forward to seeing them in action!
Take with a grain of salt, but Kotaku's Jason Schreier made some interesting posts regarding Switch and Persona 5 on ResetEra. In short, there is a possibility that "P5S" may be an entirely different thing, but Jason doesn't rule out Persona 5 itself coming to the Switch. He is sharing this because he wants people to temper their expectations for whatever happens.

Hey, so...
Some of you may have seen that I was on Kinda Funny Games saying I didn't think Persona 5 was coming to Switch. I'm afraid to tell you all that, despite Best Buy (lol), I still feel that way. I think Persona 5 Royale is a PS4 game, and I'm pretty sure that P5S is something else entirely.
I guess it's possible that a P5 Switch port is coming separately, and it's also possible that the people I talk to aren't omniscient, which is why I don't like to definitely declare "Persona 5 is not coming to Switch," but, look, don't let these "insiders" get your hopes up too much is all I'm saying.
(Video game bloggers, please don't turn this post into a news article on your websites.)
What's happened, though? A Best Buy listing that anyone could have entered? A bunch of Twitter rumors getting everyone's hopes up? Persona 5 S having an S in it?
I'm very confident that P4 Royal is PS4-only and that P5S is something else entirely. (I've heard it's another genre but am not 100% sure. No idea what platforms.) I'm sharing this because I hate to see people getting their hopes up for something that I'm pretty sure isn't true, and it's frustrating to keep seeing "insiders" spread rumors that turn out to be false. It's possible that Persona 5 is coming to Switch separately, which would make me very happy, but it's not one of those two things, despite what Twitter insiders have been telling you.
It doesn't have to be the exact same game. Could have different ending, could have some big story differences, could be a whole brand new side/parallel/prequel story even. The "S" letter already tells us it's not the same game PS4 is getting.
But I don't think it's another genre. They already have SRPG and DRPG SMT side series and that leaves us with ARPG, a sub genre that Atlus is not experienced in. Could be a something that's not a RPG at all? Musou? Nah, I don't think so.
Mystic Distance popped into Polarpanda's discord and said that P5S is an action game of some kind. He also said a direct announcement tommorow is looking likely, but that is based on what's going around in general and not an actual leak.

So probably not a simple port of Persona 5 and maybe a separate spin-off entirely? That'd be surprising, but I still think we'll probably end up seeing a Persona 5 Port for the Switch at some point too.

It's worth remembering that the Best Buy listing said "Persona 5," not "Persona 5 S." P5S being a new spin-off and a Persona 5 port being called, well, Persona 5 seems totally logical to me.
Interesting. Didn't he make a comment about a possible Platinum Games Persona action game a while back as well? I dunno how they would be doing that when they have so many other projects happening ATM, but still.

Platinum has their hands full, with them working on Astral Chain, Bayonetta 3, and Babylon's Fall. Unless the last one was announced too early (if so, goddamnit Square-Enix) and Bayo's development being halted, I can't picture them having enough manpower and resources to work on such a game.
Mystic has a few insiders and might have some info on persona, but he's been wrong about quite a bit of stuff in the past, so i'm not holding my breath. But at least it deepens the mystery Wonder what will all be announced at the concert :O

Yeah, I agree. I think he may have just been spitballing and not actually leaking anything anyway.
ATLUS have been teasing more collaborations with other companies featuring the Persona IP though. Obviously one of these is Joker in Smash, but it'll be interesting to see if we get something else with a bigger company.
Jason Schreier is a major journalist for Kotaku. Depending on which circles you follow, you may have heard about his recent article on Anthem's spectacular development troubles, which is an incredible read. If a video game goes wrong mid-development and creates a spectacular train-wreck as the finished project, you can expect him to write an incredible article about it.
It's almost time. It seems like Joker and the rest of the Thieves are sending these calling cards out there, starting at Best Buy and now Nintendo.
If we don't get a Direct announcement soon, I will be incredibly shocked.

Why would we fight on the subway trains if the stage is Mementos? The trains only appeared in 'rest area' floors; you travel through atop Morgana in bus form. If this stage is mementos, there's only a couple of possibilities on how the stage will look:
A) A Flat stage like the Wii Fit stage where there's nothing to fall off of. Possible Shadow stage hazards that appear at random to strike out at someone before leaving and maybe other phantom thieves appearing at times in a sort of cameo (if we're lucky).
B) Stage moves through Mementos depths. Fighters are atop Morgana in Bus form and it's a moving platform stage as he goes through different areas of Mementos (pretty much just the Legend of Zelda train stage with a possibility of Shadows showing up occasionally to strike the bus to knock Morgana, and anyone else atop him, off for a short while.
C) The stage is actually the final depths of Mementos
which could have each of the Palace rulers show up prominently in the background at different times like the Captain Toad cameo in the New Donk City stage; Or, Igor, Justine, or Caroline can appear as stage hazards to keep order in the area
D) Or, if we're lucky, the stage transitions between Mementos and The Velvet Room
Those are whats most probable. Seeing as how the subway trains themselves were never able to be interacted with, I sincerely doubt we'd be riding atop one of them. Pretty sure Sakurai is going to want to be as faithful as he can, so it's either the Mementos ground or atop Morgana riding through it.
I would have liked that as well, though I will say that playing it with any music track other than The Poem for Everyone's Soul would feel weird. I imagine we will still get that track with the Mementos stage.

Good positivity! Nintendo announces directs at very inconsistent times, but usually it is the morning, noon, or evening in JST the day before the Direct airs. Mini-directs do, however, also exist and have no announcement prior to being uploaded to their YouTube channel.
More often than not, the day before. Tomorrow morning's reckoning time to see if the rumors are due - Direct announcements are around 6 AM pacific. If this is any consolation, the recent leaks hint at this coming out sooner than later, so a Direct either this or next week seems like the right time.
